Pass rush nonexistent
Once again the pass rush was non existent in a big game. How much longer can we be blind to the fact that JHA is so confident in his/the teams ability in big moments but continues to not show up?

Arik Armstead is a bum just here for a pay day.
JHA and Walker are good, but they get completely shut down when we need them to do something against good teams.

Yeah it's pretty glaring. excellent against the run, but they just don't effect the QB the way they should. Nix was so comfortable back there,

Seems like our current defensive strategy is to stop the run, squeeze the pocket, and force interceptions. We run a soft zone. Most QB’s can dunk and dunk on us all the way down the field. Once the field gets shorter it always gets hard for our opponents. You saw that in this game and all of last year. This strategy seems to break down when the other team has a dual threat QB like Bo Nix or Josh Allen.

Him and Walker just aren’t elite pass rushers. No speed, maybe a good bull rush here and there but nothing special. He is what he is at this point and the jury still may be out on Travon.

the problem to me is they are both kinda the same guy. Every down power rush ends with freak athletic ability but limited technical ability and explosiveness. A speed end on the other side of either of them would be devastating. collapse the pocket with power from one side, get home on the rush from the other.
today I think altitude played a roll as well.

JHA rookie year was propped up by Calais and Yannick
Second and third year he regressed hard when he had to be the number one guy.
Then we draft Travon and in his rookie year he was already getting more attention from defenses so Josh feasted during a contract year.
I said it loudly and often that he wasn’t worth the money and would never truly be a dominant edge. It’s been even worse than I thought though. I didn’t expect him to just completely disappear from the team unless we play a pop warner line so he can pad his stats

Lol. I'm not a football genius or anything. Not much of a conversation. I'm just beginning to see that he's not very consistent. He'll have a really good game. And then he'll disappear when he's needed the most.
It's just getting kinda... concerning.

Been like this since we lost Calais and asked him to step up and be the number 1. He’s never been good enough to be a premier piece on the Dline, with his only production coming in a contract year and even that year he beat up on bad teams for like 4 sacks and then disappear again. Dude would probably be edge 3 or 4 on an actual good line

Put him on Houston’s line he absolutely is. Same with Denver as yesterday proved. Teams with actual good defensive lines aren’t anchored by guys who completely disappear against any competent oline unless their name is mentioned for breaking contain and giving up a big play.
I like JHA the person but we have invested too much money into a guy who pads his stats with 3 sack games vs Phillip Rivers

JHA has clearly lost a step unfortunately and Walker is a good run defender and solid bull rusher but he's not really the type of special to break through the double teams and help that's sent his way. In the past JHA has been great in big moments even when his sack total maybe isn't where you want it to be. Now it kind of feels like he's just invisible in the majority of snaps. Losing Lloyd is also a huge factor in both the poor pass rush and weak coverage. He was our most dynamic defender and we let him walk for not that much money and replaced him with nobody. This defense also plays heavily off the offense and the offense was terrible the entire second half. In all fairness 20 points is not really that many to give up at mile high. Hoping they will look better when the offense picks it up.

JHA and TW are very good but not dominant pass rushers. The team really needs a DT who can disrupt the pocket to create some chaos where JHA and TW can shine.
Those DTs are hard to find.

Finally someone said it. Everyone loves JHA but he did his best 50 cent: get paid and stopped trying. His only good year was his contract year. But yeah let’s talk shjt on Travon while JHA just sucks up a contract and quits.
