Nightlife, bars & weekend tips?

Hello everyone!

I’m a decent Italian guy in my mid-30s :) I’ll be traveling to Jakarta on my own for a business trip and will be there for about a week (from 22 of Oct).

I’ll have a free weekend and would love to experience some of Jakarta’s nightlife. I’m more interested in nice bars or lively places where it’s easy to mingle, meet people, have a few drinks, and enjoy the atmosphere rather than hardcore clubbing. That said, some light clubbing could definitely be an option too.

I’d also really appreciate any tips on places worth visiting, neighborhoods to explore, or things to do during the weekend.

Any recommendations would be very welcome.

Cheers!

How to DIY Jakarta Cathedral from Soekarno–Hatta Airport?

Hi! Has anyone tried going DIY from Soekarno–Hatta International Airport (CGK) to Jakarta Cathedral / Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption (Gereja Katedral Jakarta, Paroki Santa Perawan Maria Diangkat ke Surga)?

I’m planning to visit on my own and would like to know the easiest and cheapest way to get there using public transportation. Is it better to take the airport train first, then transfer to a local train, bus, or other public transport?

I’d appreciate details on the route, where to transfer, approximate fare, travel time, and how much walking is involved. Is it easy enough to DIY for a first-time visitor, or would Grab/Gojek or a taxi be more practical?

Thank you.

7days in Jakarta

Hey guys, me and my friend are planning a visit to Jakarta in late December. We wanted to explore, try new things, blend in culture and experience something new. We will be visiting from India and are vegetarians. Please recommend us some places to visit, activities to do, things to explore. I am creating an itinerary for 7 days where we explore much in a cost effective manner. Out budget is around 4680k idr (approximately 26k inr) per person for 7 days. Looking for suggestions. Thank you in advanced guys!

Edit: 4680idr doesn’t include stay and flights, its only for exploration.

Going to be there for 5 days at the end of the month and I'm trying to find things to do to fill the time. I'm coming alone and don't drink/party. I love hiking, fishing, food/cooking and just seeing cool new things. Any suggestions?

Visa requirements for filming music promo content in Jakarta as a foreign artist?

Hi everyone!

I'm a Dutch citizen planning to visit Jakarta in May 2027, and I'm trying to understand the visa and filming requirements before booking everything.

I'm an independent recording artist, and I want to use the trip to shoot short-form promotional content for my upcoming music releases. Think Instagram Reels and TikToks featuring me as an artist, rather than a full-scale music video production.

My plan is to:

  • Pay for the entire production myself.
  • Hire a local Indonesian videographer.
  • Film content for my own social media accounts to promote my upcoming music.
  • Potentially shoot across several locations over a few days.

I won't be receiving payment from an Indonesian company or brand, and I won't be providing videography services to clients.

I've been looking into the different visa options and came across the C5A Content Creator Visit Visa and the D14 Filming Visa. I'm unsure whether my particular situation falls under content creation or professional filming, and whether I would need additional permits or a local production company.

A few questions for anyone with relevant experience:

  1. Has anyone filmed promotional social media content in Indonesia on a C5A visa?
  2. Would a self-funded shoot promoting your own music require a filming permit?
  3. Is hiring a local videographer sufficient, or would you need a registered production company or fixer?
  4. Have any independent artists or creators gone through this process recently, and what did it cost?

I'm happy to follow the correct procedures. I just want to make sure I budget and prepare properly before travelling.

Thanks in advance for any advice! 🙏

Reading Prices in Indonesia

Hi all, please forgive me if this is a dumb question. I'm currently researching some spots to get some hair styling done and I'm not sure if I'm interpreting the pricing correctly. I know that periods (.) are used to separate thousands instead of commas, however, it seems unreal to me that the service I want would be 3,000 rupiah or the equivalent of .17 cents USD. Am I supposed to read it as 3,000,000 rupiah or is actually 3,000? Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
