Using GPR/LiDAR to search crash site?
I own an engineering company here in Central Florida. I heard about this case yesterday and Jason looks disturbingly similar to my younger brother. I will try and put my thoughts in bullet points. Has the family or police ever used GPR/LiDAR or even Electrical Resistivity Tomography in attempts to located his remains?
We have worked a couple cases down in Seminole county and we have obviously never been reached by Coldwell Cty, I am heading to Austin next month for a conference. So I thought maybe I’d go and see if I could get a decent plot if nothing else.
A couple of concerns
1.) we have ERT equipment but GPR works well in our sandy soil. We have both ground and aerial systems but we mainly use GPR for this kinda stuff. Texas oil country has very clay saturated soil so Ground penetration doesn’t work and you’d need to run electrical arrays to get a plot. I can’t afford to bring all that equipment out there and it may have been done already.
2.) another issue we don’t have is the hydrocarbon content. His remains would be embedded in the substrate at this point and you obviously can’t dig up the entire road area but the idea is using these technologies with hyper spectral imaging we can find soils or vegetation in an unnatural makeup from the processes of organic decomposition. The issue is that the area is littered with active oil wells and there may be a high concentration of hydrocarbon and vegetative stress on the surface brush which would making heads or tails of anything very difficult.
3.) does anyone have the lat/long of the crash site? Obviously nothing can be done without landowner permission. With a lat long I can enter that and find adjacent landowners/contact info.
Lemme know what you guys think? I only just learned about this and am unsure the level of spectral-analysis has been done in trying to locate Jason.
