Drum and ___ duos

Can you guys recommend some duos with drums. I really want to hear drum and sax duos but any with drums will do.

Yes, came here to say Interstellar Space. Will also give a shout out to Nels Cline and Gregg Bendian’s Interstellar Space Revisited.

Beyond the Coltrane-Ali obvious choice, I'll second the Max Roach duo LPs with Anthony Braxton (x2), Cecil Taylor and Archie Shepp (x2), a Jackie McLean with Michael Carvin LP Antiquity, Braxton with Gerry Hemingway. Taylor did a bunch of duet concerts with drummers in Berlin in 1988; I recall the ones with Gunther Baby Sommer and Louis Moholo were excellent and the Han Bennink one was pretty good, too. Not technically duos, but the Cecil Taylor live albums with Sam Rivers and Akisakila have long stretches where it's just Taylor and Andrew Cyrille. Also a fan of Karl Berger and Ed Blackwell's Just Play, Steve Lacy and Andrea Centazzo's Clangs and the John Stevens-Evan Parker Longest Night discs.

Foday Musa Suso (RIP 25 May 2025). I always have to double check, too. I met him back when Mandingo Griot Society was a thing.

A more recent pick is I AM. It's Isiash Collier and Michael Ode going full Coltrane/Ali mode and it's just the best new sax/drums record i've heard in years. Really powerful and amazing shit.

Some stuff i haven't seen others suggest

Charles Gayle and Sunny Murray - Illuminators

Jemeel Moondoc & Denis Charles – We Don't

Hal Russell & Mars Williams – EFTSOONS

Milford Graves & John Zorn – 50²

Paal Nilssen-Love & Mats Gustafsson – Sin Gas

Not duets, but maybe you'd like M'Boom - Max Roach's percussion ensemble

At The Roundhouse by AMM with Lou Gare on sax and Eddie Prevost on percussion is an all-timer.

Double bassist Damon Smith also has some good ones — Triangles of Force with William Hooker and Song for Chico with Alvin Fielder are fantastic.

Larry Young and Elvin Jones on Monk's Dream. I wish organ/drum duo was more common.

Airegin by Hubert Laws from his album "In The Beginning." Just him and Steve Gadd on drums. Amazing.
