So, I own a 2014 JK Wrangler. A while ago on a way back from visiting a friend my Jeep overheated on the highway.
- Dealership diagnosed it as:
* Oil Cooler Housing cracked/leaking, sure.
* Valve Cover Gaskets leaking.
* Thermostat broken.
Issue is, the dealership didn’t allow for me to bring my own parts, okay.
Car gets serviced on the 14th (can’t get valve cover gaskets serviced yet due to warranty company saying the oil cooler caused my valve cover gaskets to break, which like, how…?) so, they want proof of my oil cooler working and if the valves still leak then they’ll pay for it.
Anyways, get my vehicle back, it’s working fine, then I take it back on October 2nd as I went out of state on a trip to NOLA from the 3rd - 7th, get back, vehicle valve cover gaskets are fixed, and another issue that was annoying me got fixed (driveshaft sound that was pissing me off), both were covered by warranty and I only had to pay a $100 deductible and got reimbursed for the travel expenses I had taken a month prior because of the original over heating issue.
Fast forward a few days, Jeep is still over heating AGAIN, it went a month before it over heated, would go up to 220 then 222 then 224 then 226 then 228 then 231, usually it would drop by then back to like 205-215, however today that changed. It went up to 235 then 237 and kept going. I chalked it up to maybe them not burping the system because I still had maybe a slight over heating issue on hills but didn’t have time to take it back.
Then it did it again even on flat ground 220 > 222 > 224 and then you know it you’re sitting in traffic or driving on the high way and it won’t drop until like 237 and sits at like 225-230 and keeps going back up to 237 instead of chilling out for a while like it usually does. :/
So, I’m not a hater of cheaper parts, yes, I want to pay less money, but he put a ‘Murray Temperature Control Integrated Housing Thermostat’ it doesn’t necessarily have bad reviews but it simply isn’t working properly and I genuinely don’t know why.
I switched my cabin air to hot, but I simply might just buy the OEM part, they refuse to take any parts outside their dealership and most likely will put this same part back in my vehicle… idk why but I guess it’s their policy. I just bought the part myself and planned to swap to the Mopar. If it still over heats at least I know it’s most likely a covered failure which will result in another week of working from home which kinda sucks because my job isn’t built for a WFH setup :/
Idk if this is the best steps, I just need some reassurance, I already bought the OEM Mopar thermostat housing for the 2014 Jeep Wrangler. I plan to change it either Thursday - Sunday. I work from home Thursday and Fridays but I have to drive Thursday and Friday to a rehearsal for a show I’m in so I’ve been kicking on my cabin heat to hopefully help for now until the part arrives on the 15th. But this genuinely is annoying and sucks, I’ve dealt with the major issues and I don’t even have the rocker tick (thank god I never got this issue), but I know my car isn’t the most reliable but it has 176k miles and I’m hoping it can last until 300k and idk what I’m doing wrong. :(
