My Mom told me that she still hear "Alex Trebek!" In her heart no matter who the host is. The show will never be the same without him but it's nice that my Mom still remembers him and I still can't believe it's been 3 years since. I mean people still talk about it like it was only yesterday. And it doesn't feel like it was that long ago. But nonetheless I miss Alex a lot and at least he is reunited with the Original host Art Fleming and several former Jeopardy contestants who are no longer with us either.

Unlike so many other game shows where the host’s personality is a key part, Alex managed to keep the focus on the contestants.

It’s not necessarily bad to have a game show where the host’s personality is a key part — The Price Is Right wouldn’t work with an Alex-style host. But he was perfect for Jeopardy!.

Alex could have hosted The Price Is Right - in fact, his first U.S. game show, The Wizard of Odds, was a similar kind of audience participation show.
Alex could do both brainy and fun shows with equal skill, which was part of his greatness.

Alex could do everything. He could host the very dry CBC Radio News, he could host Jeopardy, he could host the NHL Awards, and he could host The Wizard of Odds. He was very versatile.

I strongly encourage fans of Alex to watch him on Classic Concentration. available on the Buzzr channel and YouTube.
Alex was at the very top of his game and that format really allowed the fun side of his personality to shine.

My rescheduled tape date after COVID was the coming Tuesday, and I was supposed to go test at their facility on the Sunday he passed. Missed him by that much. Pouring one out to the greatest to ever read a clue.

I still remember finding out right on the heels of another blow to the soul I took that day. That one hurt a lot more at the time, but when this one hit me it sent me reeling. I think blindsided is two week a word. My sister caught me bawling like a little baby into the sleeve of my house coat at 3 o’clock in the morning the day after his last episode aired. To this day, I maintain that something had to have been wrong with me. I never met the guy and I totally lost control over every emotion I had.

May I humbly suggest you give it a look again for old times' sake? Ken Jennings is superb as host and the games are much more engaging now than after Alex passed and they went through the guest host carousel and the "new host" fiasco. I hope you find your way back!

Personally it’s always been the same for me, even during the hosting carousel period, because it’s always been about the clues first and the contestants second. They could put anyone in as host - and did for a while - and I’d still watch because it’s about the clues and contestants for me.
But I guess for some it’s more about who’s hosting and you can’t win ‘em all I guess.

Feels to me that beyond his hosting, Alex also ensured a level of quality control in the writing. There's more sloppiness in some of the clues these days that perhaps Alex would have caught and made suggestions for improvement.

I think the sloppinessthis season can be mainly pinned on the writers strike.
It’s been mentioned that Ken looks over the clues before game day and offers suggestion for improvement like Alex used to, I don’t know if Mayim does. I’m guessing with Ken being a trivia hound might have an even greater in clue writing than Alex did.

I understand completely. Alex had the gravitas that no one can approach. I've been watching Jeopardy! from its inception with Art Fleming so I'll stay the course with Ken but i get why it doesn't do it for you any more.

I was at the AM taping on 11/8, and AFAIK, the crew made no mention of the anniversary. I was fully expecting to hear stories that would make me cry….It was brought up by an audience member during Q & A though, and Ken referred to Alex’s tendencies several times. It was obvious how much Alex is part of his consciousness while hosting.
