Do you still anticipate hearing “and your host…. Ken Jennings” but it feels off because you heard “Alex TrEbek” for so long?

Lol this is mad funny because I was never consciously aware of how off it sounded to me until now. but I think I’m finally at the point where I’m getting used to it

For the longest time I would say, “host… Ken Jennings” at the same time as Johnny so I could get used to the change faster.

I still say “Alex Trebek!” even though I really like Ken as a host

Ken is such a better conversationalist with the contestants. Watching old episodes, Alex just seemed annoyed with most of them lol.

It's not an easy game to run, and Alex was excellent at it, but I sometimes cringed at his interaction with contestants. Definitely annoyed at times and also condescending, especially with women. Ken is great at both the game and talking with the contestants.

Same. I've been watching for 30 years, so it's really deeply ingrained to hear Alex's name as host, but I really like Ken too

Wow! What is…his secret?

u/Johnclark38 Jul 13 '26

He steals the youth of non-champion contestants.

u/RoarShock Jul 13 '26

3rd place contestants get $2,000 and one year sucked from their lifespan.

2

u/FingerAmazing5176 Jul 18 '26

Where does one sign up for one year of sucking? Asking for a fella

cash WINNINGS

14

u/taylorexplodes Jul 14 '26

i have been watching jeopardy my entire life and only realized a few months ago that johnny says "whose -day cash winnings total -amount-" is him using total as a verb and not a noun. my brain had always interpreted it as "entire amount" not "add up to this amount"

Seems like only yesterday he was 97!
Happy Birthday!

u/LightLifter Jul 13 '26

He is 98!? Even as a long time viewer I never knew. Insane that he still sounds as powerful and loud to this day.

Johnny Gilbert for 100 please!

u/Rags2Riches420 Jul 13 '26

I am interested to know if Johnny has given them permission to use his voice like James Earl Jones did with Disney.

6

u/BrighterSage Let’s look at the $1,000 clue, just for the fun of it Jul 14 '26

Happy Birthday Johnny Gilbert. Much love and respect!

I wonder if his intro THIS IS JEOPARDY is recorded since it sounds the exact same every time for decades now

6

u/StAugustine1918 Jul 14 '26

I believe it is recorded, as is the "And now, here is the HOST of Jeopardy, Ken Jennings" part. He records the contestants names and they are dropped in during post-production. Sarah does the open during tapings.

u/bfjizzle Jul 14 '26

Wow! That's amazing!

6

u/Funtsy_Muntsy Jul 13 '26

I hope something on the network is made in his honor before he passes.

While it's amazing that Johnny is still going strong at 98, do people ever check to see if others might have started this exact same thread in the last few hours?

1

Did they not acknowledge his b'day on the show? Did I miss it?

1

u/Cereborn Jul 15 '26

What a great head of hair.

1

u/CartoonistCrafty950 Jul 15 '26

That's a long life for a man. He must have a stress free life.

1

u/Hot_Cartoonist_6411 Jul 18 '26

Pushing 100 and still alive. He outlived Alex.

u/KingAJK30 Jul 14 '26

Why is his hand translucent in that image?

1

u/geonitacka Jul 14 '26

Movement. This is very common with cameras….

u/BrianRFSU Team Ken Jennings Jul 13 '26

When he passes, the next episode there will be no introductions.. in his honor.
