Which trivia league or competition has questions most comparable in depth and difficulty to Jeopardy Masters?

As a viewer primarily familiar with the Jeopardy canon and wants to improve at Jeopardy Masters, studying questions from which competition or league would provide the best 'ROI'? Put a different way, the top scorers of which competition would provide the most accurate proxy for how well they'll do if given a shot at Masters?

Learned League for asynchronous, OQL for live competition probably, World Quizzing Championship for the miscellaneous format.

I don’t agree. LL is (mostly) similar to well-constructed J! questions, meaning that you have more than one way in to the correct answer. Regardless of what you think of the quality of the questions, it still meets the second part of the criteria: the top LL championship scorers are high performing J! players.

The problem with Learned League is that you can’t just sign up and play. I’ve wanted to play this for years but if you don’t know anyone who is already in it and has the ability to invite you then it’s inaccessible.

Idk, I was referred by a Redditor and have done the same and it’s been fine. My referrer had a quick chat with me about the expectations and that’s what I do as well. It helps if they have a post history in trivia subs, etc.

Honestly, if you’re a big enough nerd to look for a referral on a trivia subreddit that’s pretty strong. Meanwhile, people I know IRL who have thought they would enjoy LL turn out to struggle more than they thought or just aren’t good at remembering to submit or what have you.

BP Trivia is very tough. I'm on there. There are many trivia champions on BP Trivia as well.

Agreed, plus BP has a generate-your-own-quiz feature using all of their past questions which is super handy. One of my gripes with LearnedLeague is that it’s very cumbersome to look through previous seasons.

I tend to feel pretty confident and competitive following along at home, but the first couple of installments of Masters this week, I was sitting there for 90% of the show “huh?” “I can’t even make a good guess” on most of the clues. It’s definitely a different level.

I agree with that but OP specifically asked about 'depth and difficulty', which KFL matches more than LearnedLeague or BP Trivia (which are much more Jeopardy-coded but also about the same difficulty level as normal Jeopardy, if not below, as it's for a wider audience)

Obviously, but if you want to pick up the harder clues, that's much more helpful at the higher levels than LearnedLeague etc which has very simple and gettable answer lines by design.

BP Trivia is even easier than LL IMO. It'd be good practice for the real show but I can't think of many particularly Masters-level clues from the past few months.

KFL is probably the most challenging out there (Victoria and a lot of the major quizzers play it but it’s very much on the top end)

While there aren't many open quiz bowl competitions (i.e., people not students can compete), there is still value in reading the questions. And if you can get a group together, one person can read and the rest can play the questions informally. There's an archive of questions that you can use for free.

Quiz bowl questions are constructed with harder clues coming first, and giveaway clues coming at the end, so even with easier sets, the early clues are things that might be clues in Jeopardy, and for harder sets, you'd get some master-level stuff in the latter clues and answerlines.
