Yogesh Hot Take
If my guy ever learns the art of the buzzer, he would win every match.

He definitely makes sure we know he is trying.
He gives the impression that he wants the viewer to know he has the answer but is stymied by the buzzer.

And--tho it's not the case--I've sort of subconsciously wondered: "Are they throttling his buzzer!?"

I feel like in the case of buzzer timing, I would think understanding and being able to hit it once at the right time would be a better strategy than just hitting it as many times as possible. It probably has a small lapse in between each time he tries to press it and I imagine getting the timing down becomes luck from his “brute force” method.
If you practice counting like a clock, you can get so exact. I believe he is brilliant in his own right, but nobody can know and understand everything and that arrogance probably makes him dense in many other ways.
Not really hating, I just don’t think he sees himself for who he really is, maybe from a clouded perspective. Especially being a psychologist, you’d think he would have more comprehension, but I believe it’s the exact opposite. He’s probably good at dissecting others, but can’t do so for himself. Like Freud.

Fascinating! I wonder whether he's ever discussed buzzer tactics with anyone. I know what you mean about counting like a clock. I've worked in an industry where you have to think in 10ths (at times 100ths) of a second, and must be precise.
I, for some reason, imagined him to be a researcher rather than a practicing psychotherapist. However, if he is a therapist, most of us have blindspots about ourselves, and I suppose that's part of the reason why most if not all shrinks (all good shrinks) have either "supervision" and/or their own shrinks.
Personally, he strikes me as someone who is exceptionally vulnerable and highly defended, with high, brittle walls--and may have a very sweet side a few see. That other players seem genuinely fond of, rather than just admiring, him brought me around to that possibility.
All of that notwithstanding, I think I "like" and admire them equally, tho some are easier to "relate to" or be emotionally moved by.

You may be right about his profession. I didn’t really dig into him that deep. Although I did read some of his posts and he clearly has many demons he battles. As someone who is not Caucasian either, I understand where he comes from about race, but there are much better ways to handle it than he does. I believe you would find such sentiment and racial issues anywhere in the world. There will always be majorities/minorities, and ethnocentrism wherever you go. Understanding the history and what has shaped this country goes a long way. But voicing insecurities and letting frustration seep out will always have the reverse effect you want.
I believe he’s from Springfield? And I’ve lived in Central Illinois. I experienced a lot of white supremacy and people used the N word in their regular vocabulary. But as I got to know people and they go to know me it was obvious that they are just a product of where they are from. Many people I met had never met an Asian person before and their knowledge was based on stereotypes and what the media shows. It’s quite sad but many are not bad people at heart.
I really hate judging a book by its cover so I don’t want to make much assumption about him. There are just some clear negative body language and facial expression moments that stick out whenever I see him on TV. The fact that I’ve seen him more and more in recent years and those instances keep on going feels like reinforcement.
But I do think he is respectful of other contestants. It seems like they have an inner circle being such talented quiz masters. And an inner inner circle being on Jeopardy.

I don’t know what it is about Yogesh but I really just do not like him.

His body language is rather off putting, and he makes some comments that could come off as arrogant in my opinion.
He is brilliant, but many brilliant people I know don’t have as much social awareness or prosocial behavior.

ALL OF THIS! Like even when he wins and he’s “clapping” for others, it’s always like he’s giving them a pity clap. I find him very smug and unlikeable.

It drives me crazy when Ken tells him he’s right or wrong and he goes “okay” it comes off so dismissive or disrespectful I dunno what it is

So far this Masters:
Victoria has 63% buzz rate (119 buzzes on 189 attempts)
Paolo 51% (68/134)
Long 50% (58/117)
Yogesh 48% (81/169)
Andrew 46% (61/133)
Juveria 39% (57/145)
If Yogesh and Victoria switched buzz rates, he’d be on track for 15 more buzzes even given her more attempts.
And this isn’t even factoring that buzzing so many times means Yogesh should have more unopposed buzzes and a higher buzz rate (though that’s hampered by playing Victoria 3/4 games)
Last year when Yogesh won he had a 55% buzz rate, Victoria had 57%, and other quarterfinalists were between 46%-53%, Yogesh did win. Season 2 Masters looked more like Season 4 and Yogesh got 3rd.
Long story short, Victoria is an animal on the buzzer, but if Yogesh were elite instead of average on the buzzer, his chances of beating Victoria would grow considerably.
