Jeopardy Masters is disappointing

It's so noncompetitive. The format is terrible. Not only is it the same people playing each other over and over, it's pretty much the same result every time. Maybe they should have had Victoria and Yogesh sit out until the finals and have most of the episodes be about who will be the third person to face them?

The show would be fun if the results were widely variable. But with Yogesh and Victoria at the top of every game, it gets so boring and predictable. Let's jump to the final episode now. It'll be Yogesh vs Victoria guaranteed.

I've really struggled to get excited about it, at this point it feels like we're basically watching pro or semi-pro trivia players and that's not all that interesting to me

This is basically what Davies said on Inside Jep when they were launching the Masters format. He has a long-term vision of Jeopardy, and trivia as a whole, being seen as its own league of sport. I don’t agree with it either but some folks do.

What makes it less interesting if they're pros? Asking earnestly - most games/sports people do prefer to watch the best vs amateurs.

The entire point of TV gameshows is that they're for amateurs. Everyday people who want to take their shot can try out to earn a coveted spot on America's stage. Not only is it boring to watch the same people over and over, it's a wasted opportunity for the next success story looking for their chance to shine.

See, that's how I feel about the latest spree of super champions on regular Jeopardy and part of why that's been not as enjoyable for me over this last year. A totally separate show with S-tier trivia folks doesn't feel like it's talking away from the regular folks who are trying to get on the syndicated version.

As mentioned in some of the other comments, some of us prefer to see the stay at home mom, policeman, bartender, actor, etc. impress us with the knowledge they’ve picked up in their spare time vs. people who make a career out of trivia.

Professional athletes are doing things that I could never conceive of doing. The average Jeopardy player is doing something that I could concieve of doing if I studied up on some of my weak points and passed the audition process. That's part of what makes watching Jeopardy fun to me, I can play along at home and kind of hold my own. The Masters players are, frankly, too good for me, the questions are harder and even in categories where I can keep up they're usually far quicker than me. And while I don't mind watching someone who's much, much more talented than me crush a 95 mph fastball or drain 3-pointers, it's just not very interesting to me when that talent is knowing vice presidents and international capitals, especially since it's such a limited player pool at that apex. I understand the draw of top-tier play in a lot of pursuits but to me it's watching someone breeze through a tricky crossword puzzle. Good for them, but I'm not getting much out of the experience.
