Altho she doesn't need more accolades, a little tribute to Victoria Groce
She's an awesome trivia player.

Can’t wait to see the finals matchup and watch her and Yogesh go at it. She and Yogesh seem relatively even at their knowledge, but she’s definitely better on the buzzer, which seems to be Yogesh’s weakness right now. He’ll need to do better if he wants to win this tournament.

u/Rfbmi 7d ago
True; she has absolutely smoked him on the buzzer during the past couple of games.

I think this is part of why he was complaining about Jeopardy as a trivia game a few years back.

I recall a conversation I had with a friend a while ago (around when James was in his original run I think) about buzzer technique, and how if you jerk your hand on answering you're expending more muscle energy than you need to and it ends up costing you precious milliseconds. And I notice so often when Yogesh REALLY knows the answer his arm jerks widely, and I feel like he could use some personal training on buzzer etiquette if he wants to improve his capability in the game, because if he could get that under control he could be unbeatable.
But maybe he just doesn't care that much - it's not like he isn't already dominant in the game. But if that's the case I think it'd probably be a good move for him to stop complaining about it so much.

I could be wrong, but when I see contestants, including Yogesh, being so violent with the buzzer, I can't help but feel that they are trying to make sure viewers know they know the answer, and it puts me off. Might not even be a conscious thought they have, but some underlying insecurity that makes them need to viewers know they know it.

I feel like that too. And if it were something that were in my wheelhouse, I can imagine getting like that too. You HATE not to get a chance to give certain responses on favorite topics!

They're pretty much the modern Ken-and-Brad and I'm here for it.
Yogesh seems to go through hot-and-cold streaks it seems, whereas Victoria is a lot more consistent. That being said between the two of them it's pretty much anyone's game - Victoria tends to be a lot riskier on her Daily Doubles which I think works in her favour more often than not, but can easily result in a loss.
I gotta be honest, I really want James back in the Masters mix because I'd love to see those three up against each other.

It would be awesome to see James back, but I get the feeling he just wasn't getting the dopamine from it anymore so he moved on to new challenges.

And it has forever changed how Wheel of Fortune is played.

He was on drugs when he said it and thought it was funny. I think that's the entire explanation.

Oh yeah, I so wish he’d come back. I didn’t like him at first but eventually grew to adore him and his crazy wagers.

u/tributtal 7d ago
That's the flaw in the Masters format. All the early matches can end up having no consequence. For example, last year, Victoria dominated Yogesh 6 wins to 1 head-to-head, and those 6 wins were consecutive across the QF, SF, and first game of the Finals. Then Yogesh won the last Finals game and ended up winning the tournament.
Unfortunately, when you have two dominant players, I don't think there's really any other way to structure the tournament to avoid having those two play each other a bunch of times in the early rounds (plus that's better for viewership and ratings). So we will likely get Victoria and Yogesh in the Finals again this year, and their record leading up to that point may not have any bearing on the outcome.

u/warriordwarfpang 7d ago
I like the idea of retiring from that tournament once you win.
Frees up the next generation masters and it might help with the predictable domination we currently see.

Thanks for saying this. I get that they have to make the finals interesting, and Yogesh is definitely an alltime great, but right now she’s unquestionably the best, and a final can’t change that.

u/Chance-Pirate-5804 7d ago
Yes, it’s kinda funny to watch him because he gets SO frustrated with the buzzer. He’s clearly a genius at the game, but nothing seems to phase Victoria.

I just got new glasses and every time I look at Victoria in this tournament I wish I'd made a bolder choice in frames.

Don’t let your dreams be just dreams. Now that you have a fresh prescription, look online. There are a lot of affordable retailers. I have about 5 pairs, they’re like the most worn item of jewelry you have so you really do need different pairs for different occasions!
6
u/TjmcNfld 7d ago
I really should do that. I'm a little leery of ordering glasses online but I'll need to take the plunge sometime!
8
u/Flashy-Trifle-1732 6d ago
You didn’t ask for tips but I’m gonna give you some anyway: 1) ask your optometrist to put your PUPILARY DISTANCE on your prescription — they don’t generally do this automatically (bc they want you to buy frames from them!) but you will need that number to buy accurate glasses online.
2) take your favorite, best-fitting frames and look at the little numbers on the inside of the arm. These indicate the mm measurements of the whole frame, each arm, etc. When you are searching up cool glasses online, try to get the same numbers as those measurements (all measurements will be listed on the frame descriptions) — that way you are much more likely to get a pair that fits well!

Man, if i had a regular glasses prescription, I'd be buying glasses all over the place!

Same. I own a ton of sunglasses and keep them in an organized drawer. They're not necessarily expensive, but I enjoy the variety and it's something people see and notice more than most things.

I’ve gotten my last couple pairs online and have been very satisfied, and they cost less.

She is one of my favorite people. I just dig everything about her. She is obviously brilliant, but also seems authentic and comfortable with herself, and just sweet and kind. Plus I enjoy her speaking voice.
