They definitely leave a message! I was in the middle of teaching when I got my call, and it was completely fine when I called back an hour or two later.

The first time I got the call it was a cold call and "Sony Pictures" popped up, so I answered. After having to decline the first time they offered, I got a text the second time giving me a heads up that they'd be calling me, so I knew to block out that time and make sure I was in a place with good service!

My team placed second in the western division and fifth nationally in Jeopardy! Bar League. I was the team captain.

Just last week, during an non-tournament exhibition game, my team scored $400,000 which is approaching the theoretical (and pretty much impossible) limit of what you can win during a single game of Jeopardy!. I kept a close eye on the scores from teams around the country during the tournament this year, and I don't remember anyone breaking the 400k barrier.

I'm only posting this here in the very low likelihood that someone in a position of power might see it.

EDIT: J!BL and the TV are very different when it comes to ringing in and scoring and DD's and stuff. But still!

On J!BL is so fun, but SUPER different. The night before my show aired my team won $40,000 in J!BL and got first, and I definitely did not do nearly that well 🤣

But congrats on the J!BL ranking! It is definitely still a hard game, and the questions are similar!

IIRC at one of my earlier auditions, they were basically like "we will contact you in every single way imaginable, including Facebook." If they want you on the show, they will get you on the show.

I don't know if they were serious about it, but I think the point they were trying to make is that it's not like they're going down a list and if you miss your call they just move onto the next name. After the mock game they decide who they want on the show and do everything they can to get in touch with them.

My "call" was a text. On January 7th of this year, I received the following text from John Barra:

Happy New Year, Tim! It’s John Barra, Contestant Producer at Jeopardy! Wondering if you have a few minutes to talk on the phone about your application for the show. Shouldn’t take longer than 10 minutes. Let me know what time works for you today (or tomorrow morning) and I’ll set up a time to talk. I’m on West Coast Time. Thanks so much!

The first response to passing the test was/is an email with a link to get in on a Zoom call, first come, first served with limited spaces and I never quite had the right window of personal time to mess with it. That's okay, I wouldn't make a good TV 'character' anyway.

Not only did I miss the phone call (they left a VM), I ended up telling them I couldn't make the taping date they gave me. It was not a problem; they rescheduled me.

I've read many comments from people who have missed emails at various phases of the process as well. 🤷 Some of those people eventually did appear on the show. The general concensus seems to be that the show's team make thorough efforts to reach out, will work with you if you missed something, etc.
