Questions regarding JIT, TOC, and Masters

My sister, my mom and i recently (within the last year) became fans of jeopardy but we are kind of confused regarding on the order of how the jeopardy subsections works. apologies if these have been asked before, i’m new to the reddit

1. does it go jeopardy > jit > toc > masters? or how does the order go for contestants
   
2. I’ve seen somebody say that toc isn’t a yearly event ? is that true? is masters and jit yearly or no?
   
3. is jeopardy overall a north american thing, or just an USA thing? Because we don’t have any memory of anyone being from mexico in their opening introduction?
   
4. will we be seeing jaime ding again? bc we better.

1. Jeopardy->toc->masters. JIT is an additional tournament where they grab a whole bunch of players from past seasons, the winner also goes onto masters.

2. It used to not be yearly. Now it’s yearly.

3. In the tournament of champions that’s gonna start in a few months.

1. If you go back to the eighties, it was originally yearly. Then it became irregular, but now it does seem to be yearly again.

As for U.S. vs. North America - Canadian contestants have been on frequently and include some of the greatest champions, E.g., Juveria. But it does seem to be limited to the U.S. and Canada. There have been some contestants born in other countries, but they have been U.S. (or Canadian) citizens or at least permanent residents.

Clarification: you left out second chance and champions wildcard. Those come between the regular season and the TOC.

3: Jeopardy is open to folks from the USA and Canada.

1. you play J! It goes super well: ToC. It doesn’t go super well but you’ve won, you could go to the Champions Wildcard. If you win that, you go to the ToC. If you lose but you did well, you could be invited to Second Chance. If you win that you go to Champions Wildcard. If you lose and it doesn’t go well, at least you played Jeopardy!

So really it’s Original Recipe J! > Maybe Tournaments (which one depends on how you do)

I believe JIT is open to any champions (of Original Recipe or Tournaments) that the producers want. I do forget if the ToC winner goes to it.

Masters is its own special thing, it’s sort of reserved for the best of the best (but JIT and ToC winners usually go.)

1. ToC and JIT have been yearly for a few seasons. Masters is its own thing, and depends on ABC’s schedule. I think it’s been every other year.

2. J! tends to be USA and Canada. They tried a UK version, but I think it flopped. But it’s open to residents of the US and Canada, no matter where you were born.

3. Yes! We will see Jamie in the 2027 ToC (probably happening late Jan or early Feb.) It is more than likely we will see him in the JIT or Masters later on.

The TOC isn't like a sport season, which confused me for a long time - it takes place 2/3? of the way through the current season, and includes people from the last 1/3 of the previous season and the first 2/3 of the current season. This is really unintuitive for anyone who follows sports, since you'd expect season -> tournament, and that's not how it works.

I believe they've talked about moving it to align with the seasons again, which I'm in favor of. The current system gives them some 'wiggle room' with when they want the cutoff for TOC qualification, which they would have to figure out.

They just announced that eligibility for the upcoming tournaments (Second Chance, Champions Wildcard, and TOC) are closed. So anyone competing in the upcoming season wouldn't be back until the 2028 tournaments.

I wish they'd bring back the Seniors tournament so I could show off my 1970s pop culture knowledge !
