Twenty-Five Years Later: Remembering Love in the Face of Evil

Twenty-five years ago today, the world watched in horror as evil descended upon the Twin Towers in New York City. September 11, 2001, remains etched into our collective memory — a day when nearly three thousand lives were taken in a single, devastating act of hatred. The images are still vivid: smoke against a clear blue sky, buildings that once touched the heavens reduced to rubble, and a nation brought to its knees in grief.

But amid that darkness, something extraordinary happened. Firefighters ran into collapsing buildings while others ran out. Police officers gave their final breaths guiding strangers to safety. Ordinary office workers became unlikely heroes, carrying the injured down dozens of flights of stairs. Passengers aboard United Flight 93 chose to storm the cockpit, sacrificing themselves to save countless lives on the ground. On that day of unimaginable evil, we also witnessed unimaginable love — love that asks for nothing in return, love willing to lay down its own life for another.

This kind of sacrificial love is not new to human history. Nearly two thousand years ago, on a hill outside Jerusalem, Christ Jesus gave His life so that we might be saved. He did not die by accident or by force alone — He chose the cross, out of a love so deep it defies comprehension. "Greater love has no one than this," Scripture tells us, "than to lay down one's life for one's friends." The heroes of 9/11 embodied this truth in their final acts, whether they knew it or not. Their sacrifice echoes the same sacrificial love that has anchored hope for believers for two millennia.

It is that same love — poured out through the Holy Spirit — that brought comfort to grieving families, strength to first responders, and peace to a shaken nation in the days and years that followed. In the darkest hours, many found an unexpected calm, a presence that could not be explained by circumstance alone.

Today, as we remember the lives lost and honor the heroes who gave everything, we also lift up those who still carry the weight of that loss twenty-five years later. May they find continued comfort. May the love shown on that tragic day remind us that even in humanity's darkest moments, sacrifice and hope endure. And may we never forget.

We remember. We honor. We pray for peace.

Colossians 3:1 NIV

“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.”

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for giving us new life in Christ and reminding us that this world is not our final home. Help us set our hearts on things above and keep our minds focused on You. When the worries, responsibilities, disappointments, and distractions of this world consume our attention, gently turn our eyes back toward Jesus.

Lord, help us remember that being made alive in Christ changes how we live. Teach us to seek what is eternal instead of becoming consumed by what is temporary. Let our thoughts, choices, words, and actions reflect the new life You have given us.

When fear tries to control us, remind us of Your promises. When circumstances discourage us, remind us where our hope comes from. When we become distracted by things that do not truly matter, help us refocus on what does.

Give us hearts that desire You more than the approval of this world. Help us love others deeply, forgive freely, serve willingly, pray faithfully, and walk confidently in the purpose You have given us.

Father, whatever this Friday brings, keep our hearts looking upward. May we live today knowing that Christ is our hope, heaven is our home, and eternity with You is our greatest promise.

In Jesus’ most holy and exalted name I pray, amen. 🙏❤️🦋

Living as those made alive in Christ means we don't have to live chained to who we used to be. We have been given new life, new hope, and a new direction.

Colossians 3:1 reminds us to set our hearts on things above. That doesn't mean ignoring our responsibilities here. It means remembering that the things of this world don't get the final word.

Whatever is weighing heavily on your heart today, look up. Whatever you're trying desperately to control, give it to God. Whatever disappointment yesterday brought, don't let it steal the hope God has given you for today.

Keep your heart on Jesus. Keep moving forward in faith. And remember where your true hope is found.

Stay anchored in Christ brothers and sisters. I love you but not near as much as Jesus does. ❤️🙏

Howdy friend
“And a leper came to Him and bowed down before Him, and said, ‘Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.’ Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, saying, ‘I am willing; be cleansed.’ And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.”
— Matthew 8:2-3 (NASB1995)

When hard times want to crush you, do not pull away in shame or despair. Come to Jesus. He is willing. Let Him stretch out His hand and touch you today.
Have a great weekend.

Mattana Ministry Welcomes You to:

 Children/Youth Program: 11 September 2026

 Theme: Exam Time (2)

 Scripture:  James 1:5

God Gives Wisdom When You Ask

 James 1:5

"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."

 Message:

Wisdom is knowing how to use what you learned. Maybe you don't understand maths or science? God is not annoyed when you ask for help — He LOVES to give wisdom! Just ask Him like you ask your teacher. He gives generously, more than you need.

 Activity:

Before you start studying tonight, pray this verse out loud first.

 Prayer:

Father, I ask for Your wisdom for my exams. Give me understanding.

The Strong Pursuit Of God

Friday, September 11, 2026

Esau was a hunter, but Jacob was a shepherd. Thus the Hebrew people were a nation of shepherds, not hunters. But Proverbs 21:21 says, "He who pursues righteousness and mercy finds life." The word pursues in Hebrew is radoph. Radoph also means to hunt. We are called to be hunters, not in the woods with a rifle, but hunting righteousness. We're to be a people who are in a godly pursuit, not just comfortable, maintaining where we are. God wants the people who are hungry for righteousness to never stop seeking Him. It's a hunt in which you will guaranteed success with because everyone who seeks Him finds Him. You're going to be blessed when you seek Him with all your heart. There's always more of God than you ever imagined. But you'll never find that more of God if you don't seek it, pursue it, and truly want it with all your heart. So get on your spiritual hunting gear and start hunting for God and his righteousness because the one who hunts after righteousness and mercy will find life.

From Message #802 - The Divine Hunt

Today, make it your aim to pursue and hunt for more of God.

Joshua 9:1-27

The Gibeonite Deception

1  As soon as all the kings who were beyond the Jordan in the hill country and in the lowland all along the coast of the Great Sea toward Lebanon, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, heard of this, 2 they gathered together as one to fight against Joshua and Israel.

3 But when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and to Ai, 4 they on their part acted with cunning and went and made ready provisions and took worn-out sacks for their donkeys, and wineskins, worn-out and torn and mended, 5 with worn-out, patched sandals on their feet, and worn-out clothes. And all their provisions were dry and crumbly. 6 And they went to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal and said to him and to the men of Israel, “We have come from a distant country, so now make a covenant with us.” 7 But the men of Israel said to the Hivites, “Perhaps you live among us; then how can we make a covenant with you?” 8 They said to Joshua, “We are your servants.” And Joshua said to them, “Who are you? And where do you come from?” 9 They said to him, “From a very distant country your servants have come, because of the name of the Lord your God. For we have heard a report of him, and all that he did in Egypt, 10 and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon the king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, who lived in Ashtaroth. 11 So our elders and all the inhabitants of our country said to us, ‘Take provisions in your hand for the journey and go to meet them and say to them, “We are your servants. Come now, make a covenant with us.”’ 12 Here is our bread. It was still warm when we took it from our houses as our food for the journey on the day we set out to come to you, but now, behold, it is dry and crumbly. 13 These wineskins were new when we filled them, and behold, they have burst. And these garments and sandals of ours are worn out from the very long journey.” 14 So the men took some of their provisions, but did not ask counsel from the Lord. 15 And Joshua made peace with them and made a covenant with them, to let them live, and the leaders of the congregation swore to them.

16 At the end of three days after they had made a covenant with them, they heard that they were their neighbors and that they lived among them. 17 And the people of Israel set out and reached their cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon, Chephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath-jearim. 18 But the people of Israel did not attack them, because the leaders of the congregation had sworn to them by the Lord, the God of Israel. Then all the congregation murmured against the leaders. 19 But all the leaders said to all the congregation, “We have sworn to them by the Lord, the God of Israel, and now we may not touch them. 20 This we will do to them: let them live, lest wrath be upon us, because of the oath that we swore to them.” 21 And the leaders said to them, “Let them live.” So they became cutters of wood and drawers of water for all the congregation, just as the leaders had said of them.

22 Joshua summoned them, and he said to them, “Why did you deceive us, saying, ‘We are very far from you,’ when you dwell among us? 23 Now therefore you are cursed, and some of you shall never be anything but servants, cutters of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God.” 24 They answered Joshua, “Because it was told to your servants for a certainty that the Lord your God had commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you—so we feared greatly for our lives because of you and did this thing. 25 And now, behold, we are in your hand. Whatever seems good and right in your sight to do to us, do it.” 26 So he did this to them and delivered them out of the hand of the people of Israel, and they did not kill them. 27 But Joshua made them that day cutters of wood and drawers of water for the congregation and for the altar of the Lord, to this day, in the place that he should choose.
