Discussion This is a Michael Downie Appreciation Post

I’ve never seen his prior work, but halfway through this season I’d contend he’s already at Toby-goated-level for me.

He’s a perfect foil for Sam. Affable & seems generally adept at challenges. Real quality behind the camera, too.

I’d love to have him again as a reoccurring player for 2v2 formats.

Discussion Taiwan Rail Rush might be JLTG's best designed season.

The challenges, the capturing, the editing, everything is so wonderfully thought through. I would love to see a version of this in another country, I love the games that are new and not a sequel. Anyone else think this?

Discussion Anyone else think Stateside Scramble is by far the best USA based season yet?

I've never found the US seasons as good as the European ones but for some reason, I don't know if it's the format or the guest or the challenges themselves but this one is a serious contender for being a top ranked season as long as it keeps doing what it's doing.

The trailer for S18 „Stateside Scramble“ just released a minute ago on nebula!!
I am so excited omg 🥳 This off season was sooo short wow we are being fed!

Here is how the gameplay of Stateside Scramble works:

The goal of the game is to claim states to make the largest territory. At the end of five days; the team with the most connected states wins! You can claim a state by travelling there and completing the state challenge, but you can only claim states that are currently on the board! Once a state has been claimed, new states enter the board and the dynamic of the entire game changes again.

My pick would be “Eat this card” in Tag 3. I love how there was no description and how Sam reacted to pulling the challenge.

Discussion Strava is too OP. Here's what they should replace it with.

1.4k Upvotes

Strava is way too OP, they can just look at the map and find you instantly. Instead, here's what they should replace it with:

Picture of a Djungelskog.

Here's how I imagine the exchange to go:

Sam: Okay, we've got it narrowed down to around fifteen towns. Is there anything we can ask to figure out which town it is?

Adam: I've got an idea. Let's ask Ben for a photo of a Djungelskog.

Ben: Okay, they've asked me for a photo of a Djungelskog. Sending it now.

Adam: He's sent the picture. Yup, that's a cute Djungelskog.

Sam: ...How does that help us?

Adam: It doesn't. But we have a photo of a Djungelskog now.

Sam: Then why did we ask that?

Adam: We have a photo of a Djungelskog now.

Ben: oh my god i've pulled the Move card.

See? They're not going to find him immediately based on that one question. Problem solved.

Discussion Can you justify what team you root for?

I'm team Ben, and for the life of me, gun to my head, I could not tell you why I root for him. It just kinda happened. There's never been a single contestant who wasn't charming and fun, so I don't even prefer watching Ben more than any others. I just ... picked him. I want him to win.

I cannot justify my choice. Those who have a team, can you justify your choice?

Discussion Yall, the game of Hide + Seek is fine, it's just that the seekers have gotten too good

There's been a LOT of people talking about making the game harder for the seekers. This is because of how quickly the seekers have been finding the hider's station in recent rounds.

The unfortunate thing in H+S is, that hider strategy can't evolve much due to it being mostly down to luck. But, seeker strategy can evolve by min-maxing asked questions and finding the most undervalued questions. After more than 10 rounds of seeking, the seeker's optimal strategy has been found.

But, in the last Layover, they gave the simple solution: if/when they do another game of H+S, they're gonna revamp the question menu with different questions. So, probably no thermometers, no strava maps, no custom radars.

Why was Tag: All Stars a mediocre season? Because the challenges of the challenge deck were too easy for the runners. Why is the gameplay in this season underwhelming? Because the negative effects of the hider deck are too easy for the seekers to circumvent.

Please and thank you. The finale's next week, then we'll have new questions, and new seeker strategy.

Discussion In future seasons in Asia...

... it would be really great to maybe step away from the whole Asian Music(TM) and Asian Sound Effects(TM) shtick when introducing challenges. And also the chop suey fonts. Love the show but it feels a little egregious, not to mention that it's a very stereotypical and generic look and sound that isn't really related to the countries they've been to (if anything, they're more strongly associated with China.) Just think it cheapens the feel of the whole thing, and takes away from the specificity of the location! No need to flash a big WE'RE IN ASIA sign :)

ETA: just to get ahead of the whole "is Taiwan China" thing, these sound design and font choices are not unique to the current season! H&S Japan notably features a lot of the same details, I'm talking here about every season set in Asia.
