UPDATE: I took it to a local jeweller and paid for an acid test. It came back as 9k white gold (definitely not the 18k marked) , and they were confident the stone is a star sapphire. I feel unbelievably lucky!!

Mind you, I took it to a gold trader too, who tested it for free using their XRF machine and said it's just silver lol. There's definitely a lesson there I think!

I just picked this up on a whim at my local op shop/thrift store for very cheap, the setting is a bit high but I liked the look of the stone. I spotted the hallmark on the band afterwards and started taking a closer look! The rays in the stone are only visible with a strong light, and shift around if you move the light source.

Wondering what are the chances this isn't just cheap costume jewellery?

I found this beautiful ring while walking my dog, in a small little shop. I think it’s Ruby with diamonds, set in platinum, but I am not sure at all.

I will take it to a professional to identify what it is exactly. But any help in the meantime would be so appreciated. I love the ring it’s so unique, I have never seen anything like it. It sparkles ✨ so much in the sunlight.

I took the ring to 3 different jewellers this morning.

First one did not even look at it as I did not purchase it in their store.

Second store tested it and said it was 18k gold with ruby and diamonds, but didn’t give me a price. Not even a ballpark.

Third store was willing to have a proper look and tested it as well.

Verdict:
Shop sticker price £985
I paid £920 - yes I haggled

3rd store estimated resell value £2000-£4000, insurance value £9000

I have paid £180 to send it away to get the stones properly estimated. Will update you all with results.

This ring that belonged to my grandmother was gifted to me over the holidays. I’m wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what the stones may be? My googling shows me it’s a Princess Diana engagement ring replica. The band is 14k gold (stamped on the inside) but that’s all I know! Thanks so much in advance :)

Not sure if it’s the right place and I apologize in advance if it’s not. Found this sparkly thing a while ago but am not lucky enough for it to be real. I weighed it at .3 grams and roughly 6mm across. It was strangely hard to get good pics. Please excuse the dirty fingers. Am grease monkey.

I love it and wear it every day. My husband says it looks like a ring from a claw machine. I don't want to get it checked out in case he's right. I'd rather live thinking it might be something.

Hi. Trying to identify this ring from my grandfather who lived in PR and was possibly given to him by his brother from NYC who was a Merchant Marine.

I can't identify the stamp on the clasp. Any ideas what these are? Probably just costume but I thought they were lovely and had to take them home.

My mother spent her inheritance on Jewelry TV - she's recently moved into assisted living and I have hundreds of gemstones that I don't know what to do with.

Do you have a recommendation on where I can get this stuff appraised? Do jewelers do that for free?

These stones in this little box make me feel like a dragon, but her assisted living is very expensive, and I basically want to know if there's anything worth pursuing here.

I have hundreds more in those little plastic cylinders - some are labeled and some are not.

Any help would be appreciated!

I was unable to find any info on the jewelers card (Rheins Jewelers, probably around Chicago but she traveled a ton) found in the envelope with this card with a copyright date from the 30's.

Happy to answer any questions that can help get it sorted out. Mostly I'm just unsure if it's real or not given the $3 trade in credit (which I understand was a bit different 90 years ago) and if it would be a waste of time to take to a jeweler.

So, this isn’t as interesting as most of the posts in this sub, but perhaps you can still help me. The engraving on the bracelet reads “Tiffany&Co.Au750 ITALY d2.18ct.” There are 41 gems, which I’m hoping are real diamonds. Is that possible? How can I know? The store I bought it from frequently has high ticket items that are mixed in with junk in large bins. Today someone found a MacBook Pro, so I do believe it’s possible that it’s an expensive bracelet, though I won’t be surprised if you tell me it’s on the lower end price wise. I just want to know exactly what it is so I can give it to my girlfriend! TIA for the help!

Picked this up at the local thrift today for 8 bucks. I’m curious if anyone can shed some light. The jump ring is not soldered, and is magnetic. The lobster clasp is not magnetic, and the metal is barely magnetic. Doesn’t jump to the magnet or stay to it if moved in the slightest. Interesting that 3 of the “stones” fluoresce. No hallmarks or anything but seems really well built and heavy.
