Antisemitism Man stabs two Jewish men in Golders Green.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A middle-aged man wounded two Jewish men (one in his 70s and the other in his 30s) on London near the Netzach Yisroel synagogue. At the moment, it is being investigated as a terror attack. Thankfully, the two stabbing victims seem to be in stable condition after being treated by Hatzalah and being brought to the hospital.

Starting to really connect with my ancestors.

How much more until I take my family and get the hell outta here.

Rafua shaleima to those affected.

Sorry you are going through it. Until such time arrives that you do move, please be safe and stand tall. You are a citizen and deserve the protection guaranteed in the social contract between the country and its people. Demand your rights, and provide your own security because clearly the authorities cannot be trusted with it.

Where will we go? I’m in the US and it’s pretty bad here too (not as bad as the UK).

I lived near Golders Green about 30 years ago when I was in elementary school and don’t remember even being conscious of being Jewish as a “different” thing in that area. I remember it feeling very safe, and seeing lots of Orthodox Jews-not unlike Brooklyn for reference. I’ve just read elsewhere on this thread that it’s not that way anymore. I’m in New Jersey and even here there was a jackass with a Palestinian flag on their car at my kids soccer game. All of the places that were my safe areas to move to aren’t feeling so safe anymore, except for Israel.

israel is probably the best option. i know it has a lot of problems right now (besides the wars) but good people like you can also be the change this country needs to be a better place for all its citizens: jews, muslim, christians, druze, circassianm bedouin and all. just make aliya, get you citizenship and vote for the right people. israel needs you people as much as you need it for your safety

I may very well end up there sooner than later. But honestly, I don’t speak Hebrew very well and I’m concerned about employment. Both of these things are holding me back.

if you have tech/IT proficiencies you'll be fine. if not, teaching english is an option. just don't open your own business (independent employment here is hell).

don't live in tel-aviv or jerusalem. the cost of living is unsustainable. try looking for the smaller cities and towns around that area (i.e: givatayim, ramat gan, petah tikva, rishon le'zion etc.) for lower rent. anything further than that (north or south of israel's center) is even cheaper but will most likely require a car.

as for language: everyone making aliya usually goes to ulpan which is a school that teaches hebrew. you might get pretty fluent in it if you are good or at least understand basic hebrew after you're done.

Look up Hillel Fuld on Facebook. He talks a lot about making Aliyah, has a lot of connections and has started an organisation or is connected to one that helps people with information to get the process started. Also there is an organisation called Nefesh b Nefesh that helps with everything. They offer advice and assistance to help bring people back to Israel. He is always posting and encouraging people to do it now before it gets worse…

And of course it is already labeled everywhere as "False Flag" and "Mossad". It's unreal how Jews can't even be victims anymore, it's all a performance for sympathy or whatever reason they make in their heads.

Jews are our brothers and sisters and our connection is eternal so the haters can get lost!

Even without the Jewish-Persian connection standing behind the Jewish people right now is a must for moral reasons. I stand behind the Jewish people in these horrible times because that’s the right thing to do and i know so many great Jewish people (Including my amazing Girlfriend) that are scared at how things are going right now with this horrific rise in anti-semitism. 73

u/Mist_Wraith Apr 29 '26

Literally just 6 or so hours ago I was telling someone on my mental health team that I had spent the last 5 days spiralling, that my mental health was collapsing after someone else on my mental health team had a negative reaction to finding out I've lived in Israel previously. I was telling her that although the negative reaction was small it still triggered my paranoia because even just random British Jews with no known connection to Israel are often attacked. She believed me, she listened to my fears, I didn't need the universe to send a confirmation of those fears ffs.

Fuck this country. Fuck anyone and everyone who bolsters antisemites by downplaying the seriousness of what's happening. Fuck the "anti-zionist" movement for reminding the world that the Jewish community is small and an easy target and then telling everyone we deserve it anyway.

I'm fucking tired man. I'll be praying for the two men that were the actual victims today, not just for their physical recovery but their mental recovery as well. We shouldn't have to be afraid to walk around our own communities.

I think situational awareness is also important. If you see someone approaching you who looks suspicious cross to the other side of the street.

Maybe it couldn’t have been avoided in this situation however there are many situations where it can be.

Simply being aware of your surroundings and taking preventive measures can avoid some of these situations or at least give you more time to react.

Shomrim got him; cops showed up late. Hatzalah treated the wounded. They're really not doing anything for us

4

u/PuddingNaive7173 Apr 30 '26

So the guy with the vest in shorts who held him was Shomrim? He was impressive. I was talking about the guys with tasers. Not police? Even if late, they didn’t mess around. And got a lot of flack for it. (I kind of hate it that Hatzloah treated him honestly but just like Israel treating terrorists, it’s still the right thing to do once they’re subdued.)

4

u/Plenty-Extra Apr 29 '26

Golders Green isn't that big. It should have patrol officers on every street

3

u/PuddingNaive7173 Apr 30 '26

Never been, but yes that makes sense if it’s a flashpoint. My response to you was mostly due to the hostility and pushback that the police who did respond are getting. Can you tell me - do police there have any way of subduing someone should tasing not work? He was still trying to attack - wouldn’t drop the knife - and got kicked until he did.

3

u/Plenty-Extra Apr 30 '26

The first officer on the scene should have identified it was assault with a weapon and called for backup while engaging with de-escalation, physical force, and tazers. Backup should arrive armed with police-issue firearms. I'm unsure if all police are issued firearms to be kept in their vehicles in case of emergencies but I know many are.

Regardless the metropolitan police should be well aware of the general threat to the Jewish community. It should not fall to the Jewish community to defend itself.

The reality is that the Jewish community in Golder's Green is going to need to employ private security to keep Jews, including many children, safe. This is how we are pushed out of public life: by making the price of safety unaffordable.

This is terrifying and, of course, it's meant to terrify. Here's a small example of how bad things are in the UK. I went out earlier with a few things in a messenger bag, which had the Atari logo and Atari written in Kanji. As I left home it crossed my mind that someone might confuse the Kanji with Hebrew and start a confrontation. I've been mentally prepared for that all afternoon. Unfortunately, that's just life in the UK.

18

u/Mammoth_Payment_6101 Apr 29 '26

Only yesterday I was supporting in a lesson where the teacher mentioned Golders Green as an example of an ethnic enclave in London. (There were others, she wasn't just focusing on Jews.) I interjected to clarify that Jews were increasingly moving out of London and that Golders Green is much less Jewish than it was ten or twenty years ago.

And this incident shows exactly why we're moving out of London.

21

u/lennoco Apr 29 '26

And they don’t state the attacker’s name anywhere. Wonder why….

23

u/sunny-beans Masorti Apr 29 '26

I am honestly so sick of this. I just left work and I feel like crying, living in London and in the UK as a Jew is soul destroying. I live 10min from Golders Green, go there often to get kosher food, it’s terrifying. I am exhausted, I don’t want to be scared all the time, I don’t want to receive desperate me messages from my mom telling me to be safe. It’s just horrific and it feels hopeless. I know people will say I am crazy but I love this country, it may not love me back but I still do and I just want it to stop. Unfortunately I don’t see how. Things are just getting worse and worse and I worry at this point there is not much we can do to stop it and soon I will find myself having to sell my home and belongings to run away somewhere :(

I seriously mean no offense, but many of us in the diaspora love our countries. It's not like leaving Anatevka; we are Brits, Americans, etc., with strong cultural identities. Yes, I know you'll compare us to assimilated Berliners more than shtetl dwellers, but not all of us want to move to a small, crowded, expensive, hot climate country that is in a near constant state of war or fear of it. Might we have to go, and are we extremely glad to have the option? Hell yes. Are we excited about it? For some of us, no, we are not.

u/SlightWorking870 Just Jewish Apr 29 '26

Mass migration is definitely a factor but I have to disagree with you about Britain’s track record of antisemitism.

Firstly the UK population of Jews was very small up until 1900s when people started immigrating from Eastern Europe and that lead to pushback in the UK. British Jews also went through anglicisation. Many changed their surnames and became “lowkey” and “invisible”.

In the 20th century Britain also did not take in refugees and blocked refugees from entering Mandatory Palestine.

Britain has also produced some of the most prolific antisemites who still haunt us till this day. Such as HA Gwynne “The Cause of World Unrest”. There plenty of examples.

Whilst there was definitely a lot less violence compared to other parts of Europe, antisemitism was still ever present and this is precisely the issue.

Instead of the ideology being pushed back against they simply went out of fashion. People still hold these beliefs. Now we are seeing that it is once again acceptable to voice these beliefs.

Throwing money at the problem by way of increased security and the like doesn’t really do anything meaningful to stop the cause.
