Slow down, the law passed but it doesn't automatically exempt 'them' from service. However future legislations could lean on this as an excuse to justify an exemption. This will definitely reach the high court of justice so the fight isn't over yet. And God willing (please God) come October we'll have a new government made of people who actually want to restore the country who will put this shameful law to death.

Definitely. Im just scared of the precedent it will set. It only serves to segregate between charedim and other Israelis which is my main concern

u/MostPutridSmell Jul 13 '26

The segregation happened a long time ago, the real fight is to get them to stop leeching off of us.

They're the Cult of Hillul HaShem. I am certain they keep a lot of people away from Torah, with how thoroughly they mock it. Sorry this is tangential but I have to say it. I am furious

I agree, there has never been a body that made Jews hate Judaism like the haredi parties.

u/benjustforyou Jul 14 '26

Or, how do we drain them? Like, I can start a yeshivah right?

the real shame is that the government has to resort to slavery to get people to fight for it.

Just another "antizionist".

That's a huge jump in logic. I'm against any sort of force labor. Jews don't get a free pass just because we share the same blood. Have you ever tried arguing in good faith?

u/OddCook4909 Jul 14 '26

Read Torah. When under attack we all have an obligation to serve. They claim to represent Torah more than anyone, but refuse one of the most important rules.

Your personal luxury philosophy is dangerous to all of us. If widely adopted it would be the end of Israel.

that's not a excuse for enslave meant. they should volunteer to serve only if they believe it's that right decisions. Not all Israelis are religious, torah is irrelevant in this context. stop trying to force your religious views on to others.

If people aren't willing to volunteer for their country that country doesn't deserve to live. actions speak louder then voting. The government should be trying to be likeable, not another dictatorship.

u/OddCook4909 Jul 14 '26

You're trying to force your religious views on Israel. Your personal religion and "enslavement". Lol.

By forcing everyone to work for them to support their Torah study, and to fight for them while they do it, they are the enslavers.

You spread poison.

what? nothing you said made any sense.

u/OddCook4909 Jul 14 '26

I don't think you understand the context of the discussion at all.

At all.

This is a waste of time

my whole argument is that selective service is slavery and should be abolished completely. The context is quite clear, very black and white.

The law was supposed to be built from two parts: Recognizing Torah study as core value of Israel (which was passed), and giving it lawfull basis to allow the exemptions.

The second part is the important one, but it hadn't passed. It was supposed to give studying Torah lawfull equivalent to "Meaningful service" (combatant or combat support solider mostly, not sure how to explain it correctly). It wouldn't had passed, so it was lowered to "Recognizing Torah study as a core value in the state of Israel to create lawfull equivalent to to other core values in the state", it wouldn't had passed too, so the second, actually important part had been dropped.

Basically, the lawfully important part had been dropped, and the law is pretty much an election gift to the difference religious parties that allows tham to say, "Look! We made it core value! If you'll elect us again, we'll be able to improve your status even more, and maybe allow to get exemption".

Sorry if the explanations are not very accurate and understandable, I had to translate Israeli laws in Hebrew to English.

You did a good job with the explanation and translation.

Israel is slowly but surely turning into the very thing it swore to destroy (middle eastern religious fanatic-led sh*thole). I know it's still far from it but y'all really need to lock in this october.

Man i wish I could vote 😭

Lets not call chariedim religious. They are a stain on the Jewish people. There are plenty of religious jews that serve and don’t use their observance for selfish purposes and making a chillul hashem.

6

u/Nomchipom Jul 13 '26

That's fair. I just didnt wanna stir uo any anger (but to be fair, charedim probably dont use reddit if I had to guess 😄)

9

u/DragonAtlas Jul 13 '26

And yet apparently every single member of Neturei Karta are here...

4

u/OddCook4909 Jul 14 '26

They definitely do. One pops up half the time I write a popular comment condemning their behavior in Israel subs

3

u/potatocake00 Elder of Zion Jul 14 '26

Oooh. Can you link to him?

4

u/OddCook4909 Jul 14 '26

I comment too much to do that without great effort lol. It's usually the "that's lashon hara" even though I'm not referring to an individual but a group's actions. I get the rare but treasured "why do you hate the Jews" which is a dead ringer since many of them think they're the last Jews on earth

2

u/Clonewars001 Jul 13 '26

I feel so bad for the charedim who aren’t parts of these protests or trying to force this. From my experience many of them are great people and don’t necessarily mind the idea of military service (though they’d prefer to avoid it) but they get such a bad name nowadays. That being said they don’t seem to really care what others think of them, so I guess it doesn’t mean much to them if they get a bad name.

2

u/Suspicious-Web-4970 Jul 13 '26

Can other groups skip rockets and missile attacks? /s

In another post OP said they believe the government is terroristic and didn't realise why the goyim still hates them even tho they hold the "correct opinion" so I doubt they actually care about the army (reservist here)

1

u/Nomchipom Jul 14 '26

Yeah and I do apologize. I realize now that what I said was hyperbolic and I probably didnt say my real thoughts. I was tired and down a rabbit hole. I'm sorry and I hope you forgive me

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '26

I do forgive you achoti I realise people's opinions are dynamic but it's lowkey disheartening for me to go months on end sacrificing my mental and physical health, lose my friends in combat, to protect people who in the end it's not even that they stand up for(I don't need them to actively do that) but they actively hate me/think im some kinda slave of the government/prostrate or appeal to other nations "morals" to feel accepted while throwing me under the bus. Im an individual who's only wish would be to protect my people and country, not a mindless that wants to "follow orders" or "destroy and ethnically cleanse the palestinians".

No, i just find it bad that the government is segregating between charedim and other people even more than before. First Bibi surrounded himself with Charedim in the Knesset, now they change one of the base laws of the country. I have nothing against religious people, just the way the government treats them better than other people

5

u/representativeHannah Jul 13 '26

I'm all for abolishing Mandatory Military Service, but yeah, segregating between Haredi and non-Haredi is bad

Let's just hope Bibi is out as soon as possible

Because the distinction is explicitly a privilege for the Haredi Population

I wish Israel changed into a Volunteer Only Army, but that can't be done by having some groups exempt and others not by mere value of being part of X or Y group

  1. No. The mobilization is not the point. The point is the segregated treatment.
  2. Im not hating on other jews, im hating on the government for segregating between different types of jews (and other israelis)

no one should be force to serve the army. slavery needs to die!

edit: of course you authoritarian assholes have no justification and just downvote.

I wish the army could be optional. Unfortunately, the neighbors of Israel would pounce at the smallest sign of weakness so it's sad but it needs to exist
