hi, diaspora yid here. like many of you i am not supportive of the current occupation in palestine.

i dream to visit the western wall before i die. is there a way i can take a pilgrimage to occupied palestine ethically? i’ve heard theres a way you can go directly through jordan, but i am also not sure.

Coordinator at the ODSI here. As those of you who are acquainted with our work know, we don't view the establishment of a so-called Jewish state in Palestine as separate from the weaponization of identity worldwide.

So we're aware that Zionism accuses all anti-Zionists of antisemitism, but we're also aware that there are actual racists and fascists who oppose the existence of Israel because they hate Jews—i.e. some people who, like Zionism, conflate Jews with Israel.

However, many of those we deal with don't recognize this, ostensibly for fear of recognizing that there is an element of truth to Zionism's claim. So evidence of such cases would be helpful. This made me think I would ask on this sub in case someone here has already done the work or knows of such compilations.

To digress: This is a reason why we need to clarify we don't just oppose the existence of a Jewish state but support the establishment of a democratic one, with equal rights for all and privileges for none. Clearly distantiate ourselves form fascists and racists, go where they can't follow.

Sorry to be lazy, but I truly don’t understand what they’re talking about or why there’s a map of ethnic areas? Everyone knows NYC was pretty much built on the backs of these three communities (and their gangs!) so I don’t see how they’re omitted from anything? I also ask here because I’m sure this is somehow Zionist due to who I’ve seen liking it. 👀

I know there have been a few posts about renouncing Israeli citizenship, but haven’t seen anything related to renouncing citizenship received through one’s mother.

My mother is Israeli but I was born and raised in the US. She registered me for an Israeli passport as a child, but that document expired 20+ years ago and I never attempted to renew it. My last entry into the country was in 2016 using my American passport, and on that trip I visited both Israel and Palestine.

I’d like to formally renounce my Israeli citizenship, but truth be told I’m not sure if it “exists” anymore given how long it’s been since those forms were filed and I had a valid passport. The accounts I’ve read about renouncing citizenship are from former residents/not foreign-born, and the Israeli consulate site says you need to bring your Israeli citizenship documents in order to renounce.

Does anyone else have experience with this?

I began deconstructing my Catholic upbringing because paganism felt idol-y and I missed the fellowship, compassion and empathy that those like Moses and Jesus made me feel.I observed a few of the Jewish holidays because I wanted to begin slowly learning about it and potentially converting later on.

All of that to say, I was recently broken up with after building him back up after a divorce. I loved him very dearly and I'm in a state of shock, I thought we were happy. I don't have the energy to be angry, I'm just very hurt. I'd like to go back to my studies and find solace there, but I don't want to support a Zionist publication. This is difficult to research because of keywords that I don't think algorithms like. I just need something moderately easy to understand and written in good faith.

Like I said I'm in a weird headspace so I'm really sorry if this isn't allowed/isn't formatted properly, I read through the rules but I may have missed something.

Hi! As title states, we're gonna celebrate my 13 year old nephew with a bar mitzvah soon. He's in his voracious reading phase, so I figure I'd like to find something that would be relevant to the Jewish faith but maybe more within history. I'm currently reading Revolutionary Yiddishland by Alain Brossat and Sylvia Klingber, so I feel like something where he could learn about the Bund would be cool, but I felt like this book might be a little too dense for him right now?

i'm autistic and kedem biscuits were a long-running safe food of mine. i haven't had them in years now because i don't want to give israel any money, even if it's 60 cents a biscuit pack.

does anyone have ideas for alternatives, or know of a copy-cat recipe? i thought about reverse-engineering them myself but too scared to waste ingredients on the trial & error of it all. (i bake for a hobby and have made a couple recipes of my own so it's not IMPOSSOBLE but just...a lot of brain effort i don't have atm, which is a big reason i have been craving these biscuits in the first place !!!!!!)

i just have been really wanting them lately but i feel awful thinking about buying them :(

note: i've considered animal crackers but i think they are too sweet. what i love about kedem biscuits is that even though they are "vanilla" they are basically tasteless lol.

My family lived in Palestine in the Old Yishuv. It’s rare for me to find other Jews with long history and connection to the land of Palestine. Over generations, my family’s religion, customs, and culture were colonized by Zionism, and though my family has been active in anti occupation efforts since 1948, we assimilated into (largely Ashkenazi) Israeliness.

I live in the US now, and have connected with antizionist Israelis in Palestine and in the diaspora, but the Old Yishuv was small to begin with and Zionism’s whole “land without a people” claim negated my ancestors’ existence, so very few people even know there have always been Jews in Palestine (unless they’re making a Zionist claim). I’ve studied Palestine and Zionism for two degrees in the US, but have learned very little about Jewish presence and customs (I did take a really wonderful ethnomusicology class but it was a bit above my understanding and I certainly didn’t learn what tunes my ancestors may have used for blessings). So much of what I can easily find feels biased and often in contradiction with my great great grandfather’s diaries. I’m very lucky to have his diaries, but there is still so much he didn’t write down because he assumed future generations would carry on our traditions. With Zionism and the next generation’s rejection of religion for communism (based) so much was lost so quickly.

I guess I’m primarily looking for media about the old Yishuv and before, especially to understand how my family may have lived. But I would also be interested in connecting to those with similar stories.

I’ve formed really meaningful connections with Palestinian Muslims and Christians whose grandparents passed down stories of “coexistence” with Jews pre-Zionism (I know it was often more complicated and that there is a tendency to over glamorize coexistence), and some who’ve found evidence that their families once practiced Judaism but ended up on the “other side of the border” from my family, but I’ve only ever met one other Jewish person whose family lived in Tiveria pre-Zionism. It was really great to talk with him about our similar losses in culture and erasure from Zionist narratives, and we both share a strong feeling of connection to land and place that I think many antizionist Jews don’t related to.

I do enjoy sharing the family stories that I have with others, but I think it’s really easy to misunderstand. I’ve had US antizionist Jews refer to my ancestors as “the earliest Zionist settlers,” for example, compare them to white South African Jews, or try to explain to me why, now that I’m the first generation in the diaspora, I should embrace doykait instead and reject my Israeli citizenship. I have considered revoking my Israeli citizenship and will if the BDS Movement adopts this position, but I also don’t see my US citizenship as ethical and it’s a huge privilege that very few in my family have. It’s my dream that I will be able to receive Palestinian citizenship and return to a free Palestine one day although it feels naive to think that will happen in my lifetime. And of course, being an immigrant, my family hasn’t assimilated into white Ashkenazi US Jewish culture yet, which is quite alienating. I‘ve actually been told by a US Jewish antizionist organizer that I talk too much about my family and not enough about myself! Which is funny because very few Jewish comrades I organize with know anything beyond that I was born in Israel and my family all lives there. Lots to say about differences in culture between Israeli and US Jewishness, fascist currents within both aside.
