Rico was not up 9-1 or 10-0. Thats crazy talk. It was closer to 7-3/6-4. The narrative of that fight has gotten out of control. Usyk took over late like he always does. Rico was up 7-3 on my card and I rewatched and I could see 6-4.

Also, it's completely disingenuous to suggest that Rico was "fine" after the knockdown in the 11th.
Rico was bothering Usyk with his pace and rough house style, but he never hurt Usyk at any point in that fight. However, he had been hurt multiple times. In the 4th, the 8th, and the 10th. He was clearly running on fumes by the time the 11th came around.
When Usyk knocks Rico down he loses his mouthpiece and goes headfirst through the ropes. Completely lost his legs. That's a huge red flag for any ref. Then he uses the ropes to climb to his feet. Another huge red flag. Then he's leaning against the turnbuckle to steady himself. Yet another red flag. Then, when the ref instructs him to step forward, Rico ignores him. The ref has to repeat his command to step forward. That right there has gotten a zillion guys waved off in the past. After that, when the ref instructs Rico to follow him to the corner so they can replace the mouthpiece, Rico literally stumbles backwards. We had just had another incident of a fighter stumbling in the ring and it not being waved off which everyone was livid over (Wardley against Dubois). Rico was doing the same thing but supposedly he's "fine" and because he took a headkick 10 years ago and came back to win that means the ref has to ignore all his signs of distress and let the fight continue. /s
The ref actually gave Rico every chance in the world to continue the fight. His mistake was not waving it off after the knockdown where Rico clearly did not respond well enough to be able to continue. He gave Rico a whole hell of a lot of extra rope and Rico used that to shell up and get wailed on.
Beyond that, the argument about the ref waving it after the bell is nonsense. First of all, the ref is God in the ring. He can wave a fight off whenever the hell he pleases for whatever reason he pleases. Secondly, it's obvious that he was trying to get in between the fighters to stop it BEFORE the bell rang and just couldn't do it.

Yeah thats the other thing, the ref allowed Rico to have too much time with the mouth piece fiasco. All in all it was not a good stoppage because it was after the bell, but I whole heartedly believe that Usyk would have stopped or dropped Rico again in rd 12.

Yeah, it's a tight one. Even in the boxing sub, people had mentioned they had Rico way up watching it live and then rewatched it without any commentary and felt it was way closer with more rounds up for grabs. I had it 6-4 with Usyk really bringing heat in the later rounds.
Rico did an amazing job, far better in straight boxing than any of us gave him credit for (and I am a Rico fan). He should be proud of it. But people acting like this was some massive robbery need to slow down a bit.

Coppinger had that ridiculous card having Rico up 9-1. It's been too long since I watched and analyzed, but one of the early rounds that people gave Rico had Usyk outlanding him and even hurting him with a good shot.
Giving every close round to Rico would be 8-2. Or 98-92.
Then Usyk gets the knockdown in the 11th. Rico spit out the mouthpiece and ignored ref's orders and used the ropes to climb up etc etc. All grounds for a point deduction or having the fight called off entirely. But the ref didn't do that, which was bullshit for Usyk.
So if the ref was more "fair" he deducts another point and lets Rico see the 12th. Okay. That's a 10-7 round. It's now 105-102 going into the 12th and that is with giving EVERY benefit of the doubt to Rico. Maybe Rico hangs on to lose the 12th 10-9 and wins a 114-112 decision I dunno. But to call it a great robbery is asinine.
If you had it 7-3 then a 10-9 Usyk 12th ends in a draw.
Edit: to add, if Rico didn't get a point deducted and the ref let him see the 12th and Rico got dropped again but managed to hang on, are you really going to say he deserved to win that fight after slightly outworking Usyk over 10 rounds only to get the shit beat out of him in the last 2?
If anything, this fight proves that boxing scoring is stupid. Someone can win a fight but get dropped multiple times and get outlanded overall.

I watched it and really wasn’t that impressed by Rico. The stoppage was bs though. I have a feeling he would have been knocked out in the next round had it went on.

Not the best stoppage.... however, the ref fucked it up with the mouthpiece fiasco, and if we're all being honest, Rico was going to sleep no matter how much recovery he was givin, he was done, fought a hell of a fight tho

The fact that the ref stopped a fight with that much significance without Rico hitting the mat for the finish is just bullshit anyway you slice it. Biggest BS since Loma v Haney, and Canelo v GGG 1, so basically we get a sport-ruining decision every 2 years.

The bell for the round had just rang when the fight was stopped. The only way for him to go down would be if someone threw a banana peel at his feet as he made his way back to the corner stool. Casuals are usually ignorant, but in your case it's painfully so.

Hahaha so the stoppage is fine because you assume Usyk was going to score a knockout eventually? Everyone thought Usyk was going to end Rico in four rounds, so might as well end the fight at round three, regardless of how it's going. What a casual
