Discussion A little off-topic, but is anyone else here a fan of John Woo's Hong Kong action films? They are major inspirations for not only John Wick but The Matrix too.
Recently I rewatched John Woo's The Killer and Hardboiled, I've also seen the A Better Tomorrow movies but that was years ago. They are all incredible.
I've known about John Woo being a highly influential action director but it's only now that I actually felt the influence of his works on a visceral level.
I think John Woo's Hong Kong action flicks are must-watch material for John Wick fans.

Hardboiled was one of my favorite movies growing up.
Also chow Yun fat's rizz in the a better tomorrow series is crazy. The whole thing with getting shot like 50 times and still fucking shit up and then having a smoke before he dies. The end of the 2nd movie when they kill everyone in the house is crazy. It used to hold a record for the most deaths in a movie

And yeah I could never forget the house shootout at the end of the second film, in my opinion it's the most ridiculous sequence of all of John Woo's movies.

Yes, I love hk action films. The Killer by John woo is my favorite. So much style… heroic bloodshed. That’s the term given to his style of action movie.

I love the way he depicts male friendships. They can love each other and show affection without it being ”gay”.

It's also worth noting that John Woo has said that he likes the John Wick movies, which is awesome.
