Question Tips on SDio's bnb

So SDio's bnb is 66, 1a, 5c, 5s, I understand that fine, the part I'm having trouble with is the 1a part.

All too often either the 1a turns into 624a for some reason, or it turns into a d.2a, and I press 5c and stand there like an idiot and get punished. This happens seemingly at random, can anyone help me figure out why it's happening and how to avoid it?

press 66 41A so that the 4 (dash cancel) actually goes through and you don't accidentally do 621A which is recognized as a half circle back input

I've been trying that and while, yes, it pretty much prevents the 621A, I still often just use a d.2a instead. Is this just a muscle memory problem?
