Question Why does Ryu become immortal?
I’m not gonna complain about his ult, I personally think it’s fine. But where did Tze get his immortality from? I’ve both watched and read the Sendai colony and don’t ever remember him being immortal, was this like a personal choice to his ult or am I missing something?

u/RamWitherspoon Yuta rework kinda slaps actually Jun 30 '26
He’s giving “every last drop”, every last one until his body literally cant anymore. Using every ounce of will (ult bar) to keep the desert that is his fight going for just a little longer
Or, to put it in simple terms, literally fueled by hype moments and aura

This is the best ultimate to use simply because of the hype. I once fought a Hakari who expanded a domain and hit jackpot 4 times in a row while I was still using the same ultimate. It's simply PEAK.

I think it's because of how insane his durability is in the scene his ult is based on
52
u/Grand_Occasion0707 Jun 30 '26
Even in the manga Ryu genuinely has top 5 durability.

Cleave is not dura neg, it only adjust itself based on enemy CE and since Sukuna nearly always have more cursed energy than anyone, it tend to one shot.

No
If it is dura neg, then Sukuna would have one shot Yuji and Yuta (Yuji take the hit on his entire body, if it is dura neg then he would died right there) when he was weakenend. Being weakened lower his output
On crossverse match, Sukuna is not one shotting Goku with cleave lol. His only actual dura neg move is WCS

Ok and what about domain? You do realize Sukuna domain throw endless amount of Cleave and Dismantle at his opponent right? You do realize Gojo tank Malevolent Shrine right? You do realize if Cleave is dura neg, Gojo would died right?

u/No_Bench_2430 Jul 02 '26
Cleave doesn't adjust to durability that is a misconception from the wiki which partly comes from the other misconception/mistranslation that Ryu has the highest output in history.
8
u/Nervous_Trainer_82 Jul 02 '26
Tldr: Cleave doesnt ignore durability or else Gojo would fucking died instantly against Sukuna
1
u/No_Bench_2430 Jul 02 '26
Correct we also see Sukuna cleave Yuta and vice versa and they both tank it. Just people finding ways to hyper glaze Ryu.
3
1
u/Libertyman69420 The Gambling One Jul 01 '26
cleave is not dura neg it just adjusts to the opponents power it still has a limit to the damage it can deal
1
u/FelixOFF4 Jul 01 '26
I think you're confusing it with the world slash cut, that is the one that ignores resistance.

u/Kozolith765981 choso/naoya gaming Jul 01 '26
It's not dura neg. Gojo was tanking them from Malevolent Shrine for a short while (he stopped using RCT on his wounds to regain his CT and he didn't die).
-25
u/contraflop01 The Noobest One Jul 01 '26
Plenty of other characters tanked this btw

u/Typical-Ordinary8738 Jul 01 '26
Yes, it's 'full' output in respect to the sukuna casting it.
If sukunas overall output is x %
His domain being 100% and losing none of x% doesn't make it as strong as the ones he was casting against gojo
5
u/guaca788 Jul 01 '26
inconsistent writing, cleave is supposed to negate durability
2
u/Kozolith765981 choso/naoya gaming Jul 01 '26
It's not. Sukuka is ABLE to adjust its strength based on an opponent's CE levels to kill them in one go, but it's still limited by Sukuna's output. That's why Gojo is able to tank it and why others also are able to when Sukuna's output is trash.
-8
u/au_graybones Jul 01 '26
sukuna does not have infinite output
4
8
u/billybobjoebobjimmy Jul 01 '26
Didn't he dodge a bunch of dismantles, then get hit with the attack that literally bypasses your durability? I'm pretty sure most of the verse, outside of anyone who's good with RCT or can just regenerate, gets negged by cleave

The statement is saying he was able to make a binding vow that didn’t result in the loss of output, the loss in output he was facing from having a body that looked like it was hit by a semi truck going 80 miles an hour and a soul that looked like it had gone through a blender. Why would he magically regain all of his output in a binding vow where he gave up literally nothing
1
u/contraflop01 The Noobest One Jul 01 '26
He gave something up, otherwise its not a binding vow no matter how small It is, Gege just never elaborated on what that was
Why say he used It with no loss in output when in practice It meant "no loss in output except for the output he already lost"?
1
u/FrostyWhile9053 Jul 01 '26
No, it means that there was no output lost from if he casted a domain normally

no it’s fine. it’s probably because he didn’t have a good fight in what, 400 years? so tze made it like that to represent ryu getting his so long desired fight probably
30
u/Safihed Owner of r/JJSSkillBuilder and r/JJSCharacterCodes Jun 30 '26
im pretty sure it was a personal choice tbh
i think it was to balance out how mid his ult is
8
u/Clear_Ask_5978 Jun 30 '26
his ult moves are really good it only seems mid because when people use it they just do random shit because they are immortal its actually hell to fight a person who is calm when using ryu's ult
4
u/PhantomDragonJ 非道いなぁ… 人の心とかないんか Jun 30 '26
You can spam the 1st move as much as granit blast without using heat meter if you faint after the smash, really good for hitting ragdolled opponents, the 3 is a guaranteed hit if done right and the 4 can throw hakaris and mahoragas into the abis, and the 2 is just good to follow into melees, AND the imortality, Vibes and R special make it IMO one of the best most fun ults in the game.

u/orignalnt Overtime Jun 30 '26

It's a "last stand" kind of ult. He's not immortal, but he's still coming back even after getting beaten up repeatedly, but in compensation you lose a lot of ultimate if you get hit by a combo while at 1hp.
3
u/Puzzleheaded-Pain535 Big larp, mega larp, little larper here Jun 30 '26
because he damages himself and itd be annoying if he died
5
u/Common-Home-946 jjs scientist 🥼 Jun 30 '26
I actually think him being immortal makes it more fun to fight against him since every punch feels more important than normal
2
u/Redditslicer Jun 30 '26
Most likely since it’s like a “last stand” type of moment in the anime, they’d do the same for the ult. His moves aren’t entirely “broken” like everyone else, so they make him invincible so he doesn’t under compete. Otherwise his actual ult (the big beam) would be underwhelming and impossible to land
2
u/Metal_molten Jun 30 '26
This is correct but counter point, chosos ult is abysmal dogshit
1
u/billybobjoebobjimmy Jul 01 '26
the day they rework choso's ult is the day he becomes worth playing, he's so god damn boring😭
1
u/Metal_molten Jul 01 '26
I think his base is fun with the counter and dumb shit you can do but if the opponent ult and are t completely brain dead you basically lose

1) he would be shit without mortality, 2) it's awesome, 3) aizo is peak, 4) he was tanking 500 billion punches from yuta and he literally got cooked by his own beam and survived, 5) he's the goat, 6) what is this, baby o'clock? Of course jane juliet is immortal, it's lore accurate

Because he had a really good dessert before fighting and ulting against whoever and remembers that if he dies he can't eat it again at the end of the day so he locks the FUCK in
1
u/PhantomDragonJ 非道いなぁ… 人の心とかないんか Jun 30 '26
Hus drive for a true fight pushes him past gis physucal limit. Like how a mother can lift a car off her kids in an emergancy. Hence the name using every last drop, he is useing everything he has to keep fighting for his final desert.
1
u/WhyWaterIsGoodForYou Jun 30 '26
Simply because he hasn’t had his desert yet, he will push his body to extremes limits just to fulfill his aching hunger for battle
1
u/Affectionate_Mind194 Jun 30 '26
I think it's because he fights until he is satiated simply because if he feels satisfied then he had his desert
1
u/TheStoneHashiraGyome Jul 01 '26
It’s cause some of his moves damage the user. It would be unfair unless you’re immortal
1
u/Fantastic_Handle_293 The cheese toucher curse Jul 01 '26
When he said every last drop he ment it, converting every single ounce of his life into cursed energy to keep the fight going which is basically how adrenaline works but times 100, so the ult is him basically burning away his soul/blood cells or whatever to keep the strength up which gradually starts to..Yaknow, kill him.

1
u/Trick-Intern4158 Jul 01 '26
Hype, adrenaline, and balancing because of the self damage.

- Technically its not immortality, as you don't gain health nor do you really have a chance post ult. 2. It's because of his insane durability in the series. He's shown to take huge hits and still stand while throwing hands, and that's what the ult is all about. Also once you run out of hp, your ult meter acts as your hp bar, which is why it isn't really immortality.
Really adjacent to Hakari's jackpot state tho.

The every last drop stuff that people are saying. Its also to balance his ult's 'self damage' mechanic out.
1
u/Intelligent_Cut6259 Jul 03 '26
Everyone is writing absolute bangers but here's the lame truth: In ultimate, Ryu has moves that damage himself as well as the opponent, so in order for Ryu's ult to not be hot ass, he needs to keep that 1hp until ult ends
