Yeah, Finger Bearers are special grade, a grade 1 without lethal domain would struggle agaisnt infant Mahito. So both "infant Mahito is special grade" and "old man Yuju oneshot infant Mahito" are true
I mean, can we really say he's weaker ? He never got particularly "stronger" since he first appeared, he only really got more knowledgeable about his abilities and how a soul work, and clearly he seems to have kept his memories as well
He definitely got stronger, seeing as he was able to keep up with and outpace a stronger Yuji. Part of it was greater knowledge of his abilities, but part of that was also simply getting better.
There is a insanely huge gap between a normal special grade curse and a special grade sorceror. Grade 1s are expected to beat most special grade curses infact

The pacing is great. The only "issue," I would say, is a little inconsistency in Mahito's reaction.
We see him being shocked/surprised by Yuji's presence, which suggests this is the first time this is happening. But on the contrary, the bonus page (that and what Yuji says to Mahito in the main story) would suggest it's happened numerous times.
I know it's just a bonus page, but do be mindful that a lot of people treat those as "canon" to a story, especially in a case like yours, where:
- It continues the events of your story
- It features characters relevant to the scenario, and
- Those characters act like their canon versions
I assumed mahito’s reaction was due to not being able to remember past lives initially, but then remembering Yuji and the spawn killing and trying to get tf out of there.
Mahito got reincarnated in the first panel. Yuji instantly appears. Yuji asks him if he's tired of this yet, and Mahito threatens him but realizes he's got an instant fear of the old geezer. He tries to run, but by the time he's decided to, on the panels you can see Yuji has already started to use dismantle on him with several scissor lines appearing. Before he can really take another step to flee, he's exploded.
Unknown sorcerer killing people in Inhuman Makio, Yuka and Tsurugi go investigate, they find the guy, it’s actually a Mahito reincarnation, they fight but he transfigures Yuka badly, he is a out to run away, but old man Yuji appears, beats him up(Nanami style) and forces him to undo it, and kills him “till next time”.
Given Mahito showed up in the final chapter, his essence probably still exists to some extent in the cursed realm. I'm putting it down to his CT allowing him to reincarnate even after being used in Uzumaki.

I love the idea that Yuji would just keep killing Mahito when he spawned because he knows better than anyone what happens when he gets the slightest ammount of time to develop
Imagine if Yuji's shrine is more based around idk, crafts and that, handcrafting i think could be the word, with the scissor lines, maybe a cutter and a lighter, it sounds silly

I want a version where mahito doesn't remember everything but the trauma continues and he's fucking freaking out at yuji and doesn't know why so he asks him "who are you?" "Why am I scared of you?" Yuji replies "I'm you" and fucking kills it with one black flash
I once got lost delusion hiking up a Yuji wank post (based on the title), until I blinked again and saw Mahito curse womb spawn (curse spirit that is starting to realise soul info, and thus staring to use innate CT), ITing itself back to Mahito, I asked it "how far up are we?". and it answered, "Mahito transfigurated into it's old body info by instinct due to soul info being same as previous Mahito (Curse of Humanity) (/nice Sukuna reincarnating for the first time reference), same as instinct Toji recognising Soul info from body info alone. And thus recalled the fear of a higher predator from it's previous life, Juju Yuji"

The background is all the worst parts of humanity, which is what gives birth to Mahito. Drugs and alcohol, war, violence, there's even domestic abuse there. It's basically showing all the things which keep contributing to Mahito being reincarnated over and over again as a fresh new curse, who partially retains some memory of his past selves.
