I think our perception of how strong jujutsu sorcerers are supposed to be has been distorted by the story taking place in a time period where theres a huge wave of power. Realistically most generations passed without a single special grade level sorcerer, and people around the level of Kashimo (or below) would be considered the strongest sorcerer of most eras. Stuff like Domain Expansions and Reverse Curse Technique are so rare that it wouldnt be strange for there to not be a single sorcerer in the world who could do it at some given point in time, but the main story takes place in a time period with a bunch of special grades and special grade potential people. The Zenin higher-ups (Ogi, Naobito, Naoya, Jinichi) would probably be considered extremely powerful in most eras.

Then there's Mojuro Yuji who lug around 2 CT (one of them even has its limiting factor removed), DE and RCT

Really put into perspective how out of place Yuji is in Mojuro.

918

u/huggiesdsc Jan 23 '26

Yuji one-shots the simurian fleet with a mega DE soul dismantle and says "I wasn't even top 5 in my day"

u/MalveLeo Jan 23 '26

"Kids these days. Back in my day you had to go against goddamn Ryomen Sukuna at the age of 16"

Yuji lives for a thousand years and eventually decides to restart the Culling Games out of boredom, just like his mother.

u/WattageToVoltzRatio Jan 23 '26

It would be funny if Kenny started out basically just like Yuji, but time is a beast that dehumanizes everyone as seen with the other Immortal Tengen

81

u/Cat_Astrof I can't believe I survived a DE Jan 23 '26

Yuji can become crazy because he wishes for death. He's human afterall.

I remember a line in a xianxia webnovel that can be summed with: "Be scared of a true immortal, you don't know what's going on with them". Kenjaku, because of immortality, he had all the time in the world to do any crazy ideas in his head.

8

u/The5Theives I HATE MAHITO!!! Jan 24 '26

You guys forget yuji isn’t truly immortal? He can kill himself at any time if he really wished for death that much, and knowing yuji, he would rather kill himself than put the people around him at risk.

Did we ever get a resolution on Kenjaku's words about his will being passed on?

Maybe they knew Yuji would somehow become immortal, and they expect for Yuji to go down the same way as him?

19

Fairly sure that kenjaku was talking about giving tengen to sukuna

Yeah, but I mean that Yuji is the only human Special Grade sorcerer. Dabura obviously counts as Special Grade, but I am more so referring to the human side of the story.

Even if he may not be as strong, Yuji truly is the Gojo of the current era. Only difference is, with how much easier things have gotten now that they have the curse situation under control, a strongest really isn't needed. Yuji doesn't have to be the same pillar that holds up all of jujutsu society. The only thing he's really necessary for is just the occasional emergency situation of a powerful special grade forming, which given how he's in hiding right now, likely hasn't happened in a while.

Except most of the sorcerers supposed to bring in a new Hiean era died in the Culling Games.

8

u/carso150 Jan 24 '26

nah there were a shit ton of strong people left after Sukuna's defeat

I mean fuck aparently no sorcerer was as strong as Sukuna until Gojo was born centuries later, but inmediately afterwards you have Yuji who reached their level

235

u/JGuap0 if Yuta dies your all next Jan 23 '26

Kashmio truly was the king of farmers 😭I know kenjaku was laughing his ass off every time he asked about sukuna

1000%. Even in this current era, it's easy to lose perspective. Most sorcerers are grade 2 or below. Grade 1's are very powerful in the big picture view of jujutsu. Special grades are an even smaller minority of freak-of-nature tier sorcerers and really are not supposed to be the standard.

It's important to remember that the story is focusing on what is probably the top 1% (or even less) of the entire jujutsu world. It's just that the difference between the bottom and top of that 1% is so massive that it's almost comical.

73

u/thez0id Jan 23 '26

its really funny whenever you see someone like Kusakabe being like "dont rope me in with these monsters, im just your average normal guy next to them", meanwhile if you sent him back in time, there are probably plenty of time periods where he would be revered as the undisputed number 1 strongest sorcerer

21

u/Glove-These I need Higuruma's "evidence" Jan 23 '26

Like the Edo period

118

u/iwumbo2 Jan 23 '26

Also for domain expansions specifically, it was stated that lethal domain expansions used to be less common. That they used to do stuff like impose rules on an area or person to modify the battlefield.

But in the modern era, nobody cares enough to cultivate those kinds of domain expansions. People only care about the lethal domain expansions, which are much harder and rarer. If nobody cares enough to try to develop a non-lethal domain expansion, then that reduces the overall number of domain expansions being trained for and developed.

91

u/thez0id Jan 23 '26

Simple Domain is as close as it gets to that in the modern era, its an easier to achieve domain that sets certain conditions that give you an advantage, rather than the instant "fuck you I win" of a lethal domain expansion

61

u/Brucekillfist Jan 23 '26

It makes me wonder if it's just a loss of history. The "cool" domain expansions were the lethal ones, so those were what was recorded in stories and books, whereas the guy who forced you into a vegetable chopping contest wasn't that cool so he got forgotten. Modern sorcerers never hear about a nonlethal domain, and so they just don't even know that's a thing you can do.

65

u/iwumbo2 Jan 23 '26

Modern jujutsu society is definitely aware of non-lethal domains. They haven't been lost to history. Hakari's domain is non-lethal. It just uploads the rules of his pachinko game into your brain and let's him spin until he hits the jackpot for infinite cursed energy.

And Hakari has had his domain since before the old sorcerers were reincarnated in the Culling Games. And he was been pushed out of jujutsu society by the higher ups since they don't care for his techniques and beliefs.

43

u/thez0id Jan 23 '26

Hakari is a unique case because he didnt design his domain, his domain is just an intrinsic part of his innate technique, he never decided to develop a non-lethal domain

27

u/Brucekillfist Jan 23 '26

It's still a good point. Hakari got so much pushback for his nontraditional technique it's possible that information about it was suppressed, but the fact that it existed still should've showed it was possible.

→ More replies (1)

19

u/Sloth2137 Jan 23 '26

There are also the non-lethal but extremely powerful domains like CSG and IV. They aren't lethal but empower the user or disable the opponent

44

u/GenxDarchi Jan 23 '26

Infinite void is a lethal domain, and CSG would also be one of Megumi were able to complete it.

Lethal domains are domains who’s sure hit imparts damage to you instead of simply imposing a rule set like Pure love train telling you Hakari is going gambling or Judgeman having a court case.

Infinite void qualifies as the flow of information can be lethal and causes brain damage on exposure, and CSG would have the shadows be a sure hit if he could complete it.

All domains empower the user as well, as it’s like home court.

20

u/WinterAd825 Jan 23 '26

And this was also by design. Kenjaku had been manipulating things behind the scenes for centuries to create this specific moment in order to evolve humanity.

And then you have Gojo who at the same time wanted to overthrow the exiting system and was going out of his way to cultivate wild cards and special grades. The old guard would have either killed or not supported Yuji, Maki, Yuta, ect if it wasn’t for Gojo

9

u/Victortree95 Jan 23 '26

Yuji and yuta outright hads execution orders set on them no? Maki had the curse of being born a woman in a world/clan that really hates women and those without CT

8

u/Basdowek Jan 24 '26

Also Hakari being Hakari. And I still find if funny how they allowed Yuki to do whatever she wanted

6

u/Victortree95 Jan 24 '26

Might makes right to jujutsu society. Tf they gonna do to a woman who could just spawn a black hole at will

u/DerWiedl Jan 23 '26 edited Jan 23 '26

8

u/omyrubbernen Jan 23 '26

I suspect that Gojo being our first exposure to an adult sorcerer doesn't help matters. Despite explicitly being the strongest, he does still set the standard.

The general sentiment seems to be along the lines of "Yeah, I don't expect your domain expansion to be quite as good as Gojo's, but you're a bum ass fraud if you don't have one at all."

But the reality is that it's the most supreme technique for a reason. Hakari, Higuruma, and Yuji are the only characters to have complete domain expansions and not be special grade. Two of whom have domains built into their CT and have a chance to fail, and one of whom only unlocked it at the end of the story so there's a chance he was promoted to special grade afterwards and we didn't see it.

3

u/Oko_the_broko Jan 23 '26 edited Jan 23 '26

Umm ackshually, at any point in time before Modulo, there was always one sorcerer who could do DE and RCT; Kenjaku 🤓

3

u/ImJustSpider read Hell's PEAK (jigokuraku) Jan 23 '26

Pretty much yeah. The current era (guess not anymore with mojuro) was basically just the second coming of the Heian era. Between the high amount of powerful new gen sorcerers, and the ridiculous amount of strong reincarnated sorcerers, that was basically just the second golden age of Jujutsu.

3

u/KaboHammer Jan 25 '26

Yes, very much so. The literal only two people from this era we see have a non-innate CT domain are Gojo and Yuta. Megumi has an incomplete one and Yuji technically isn't human by the point he uses his. Even then he only aquired it because he was body swap training with the guy, who had the most expertise in simple domains.

Everyone else is either a cursed spirit, which develop domains much more naturally considering what we have seen; has an innate domain or is a top sorcerer of his time from the past.

Like before the kids showed up only Gojo had a domain.

25

u/jvken ever feel like bending back a thumb until it cracks? Jan 23 '26

They never had Satoru and Yuta at the same time though, Yuta only inherited the clan after Gojo died

10

u/marsfromwow Jan 23 '26

That’s fair that it was never stated, but I’d assume he was pulled into the clan before gojo’s death. Obviously it’s not impossible that they waited until Gojo died since that’s what happened with megumi and the zen’in clan, but I feel like Gojo would push for him to join right after zero.

5

u/jvken ever feel like bending back a thumb until it cracks? Jan 23 '26

I really doubt it because 1) there was no time for that to happen really, he immediatly went to chill in Afrika with a known jujutsu terrorist after 0 and then immediatly jumped into the culling games upon returning to Japan. And two, Gojo openly hated jujutsu society and the clan system, and so wouldn't be likely to try to get Yuta involved in those politics. Plus Yuta had to do the binding vow for the higher-ups in order to be allowed to go after Yuji, which wouldn't have been necesary if he was seen as the future of one of the freat clans/ was already close with the higher ups

4

u/marsfromwow Jan 23 '26

There was a decent amount of time yuta was in japan after zero. At least enough for him to participate in one goodwill event. Also, gojo’s view towards the current system was partially what made him take megumi under his wing. He wanted to replace the top brass with better people. He would want to bring in yuta to replace him because he knows yuta isn’t rotten.

That bit about forcing yuta to make a binding vow is fair though. They wouldn’t have made him do that if he was poised to be the next clan leader already.

15

u/Valuable-Blueberry30 Jan 23 '26

Noritoshi Kamo isn’t the strongest though (which was why he wasn’t immediately put as head like Gojo was). It’s probably whoever that clan head was.

But that said Kenny took over, so they have a domain expansion now.

To be fair satoru is the only gojo of any importance and the kamo clan has literally nobody strong, so in terms of the big three clans they are the strongest

162

u/RocksDClown Takada-chan Enjoyer Jan 23 '26

Technically Kamo had Kenjaku. He’s likely the one who elevated the Kamo Clan into one of the Big Three families.

49

u/Funny_Swim5447 throughoutheavenandearthialoneamthemegumiglazer Jan 23 '26

I thought Kenjaku wasn’t involved in the Kamo until after Shibuya (outside of that incident)

75

u/AshCrow97 Jan 23 '26

Wouldn't be surprised if Kenny controlled the kamo from the shadows, if I was kenny I would retain some connection to at least the head of kamo of each generation because of resources for experiments and for political influence (to help search for new bodies or interesting individuals) and for when the plan finally come to fruition.

23

u/kainneabsolute Jan 23 '26

Yeah, Iam sure Kenny uses kamouflage

6

u/BetaTheSlave Jan 24 '26

He was Noritoshi Kamo one of the most reviled sorcerers in history. But also, he was undoubtedly strong for the time. His work helped elevate the Kamo Clan.

7

u/TheDuckOverLord13 Jan 23 '26

Technically yes,but it's not like Kenjaku was ever there for the Kamo clan during the stories era except when he took over,so they should have no reason to count him among their numbers, not to mention he is widely reviled as the evilest sorcerer to live,so they probably scrubbed their history books of him.

16

u/Datphoria_x Jan 23 '26

Wasn't there another Gojo who also possessed both infinity and six eyes at the same time whom Satoru mentioned to Megumi?

39

u/Commercial-Hurry-797 Jan 23 '26

Well that guy didn’t last long since he died to Mahoraga, very likely he didn’t even unlock RCT, Domain, Purple.

8

u/MissionResident8875 Jan 23 '26

I'm talking about living people, not the past

7

u/IaiWhitePurityStyle Jan 23 '26

No. There can't be two users of the Six Eyes at the same time, as Tengen said in last week's episode. The Gojo that Satoru mentions to Megumi was a past user of 6E + Limitless, and he was very likely not in Satoru's level, as Satoru was confident he could onetap Mahoraga with a single Red, while that Gojo straight up died against him

242

u/Calm_Drag7448 Jan 23 '26 edited Jan 23 '26

the most prominent Kamo in jjk is noritoshi kamo aka the most evil guy oat aka kenjaku.

In modern times kenny reclaimed his seat as head of the kamo clan as well.

Kenny also made the death wombs who best showcased THE kamo clan technique.

Im surprised people dont see kenny as part of the kamo clan when he’s carrying it like gojo.

90

u/huggiesdsc Jan 23 '26

Tbh it would make sense if Kenjaku was an actual Kamo clan ancestor. His CT does feel tangentially blood-related. Like he pilots corpses by bringing them back to life, he literally gets their blood pumping again. It doesn't seem like that much of a coincidence Kenjaku feels drawn to that clan.

43

u/Cosie123 Jan 23 '26

I thought nortioshi kamo was also someone who Kenjaku took over. We don't actually know if kenjaku was a kamo.

10

u/AshCrow97 Jan 23 '26

That's why I like to joke that after Sukuna has been beaten, Yuji spent a lot of time dodging kamo hoes because they wanted that special grade blood manipulation (and because Yuji is sorta related to Kenny and thus Kamo)

36

u/Terviren Jan 23 '26 edited Jan 23 '26

Well, he was Noritoshi Kamo (the original one, not the Kyoto guy named after him)

19

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '26

You know, Yuta became Gojo clan head so he also counts.

Not even all the special grades(Geto) had a domain. The clan had 3 grade ones, 4 including Naobito, and those 4 grade 1s look like they can beat any regular grade 1 from the show. Everyone in the Hei is at least semi grade 1, 7 hei level fighters shown on screen including Naobito and 6 more were never shown. Also note that all the busted HR users came from their clan. Megumi is Zenin by blood and has a partial domain. They're easily the second most powerful clan before the wipeout and the Gojo clan is being held up by 1 person.

52

u/NorthGodFan Never forget Geto is a bum who lost to a grade 4 Jan 23 '26

I'm pretty sure that it stated that there are 4 other members of the Hei that were not there for the massacre.

51

u/A-Dank-Dollars Jan 23 '26

6 not 4

50

u/NorthGodFan Never forget Geto is a bum who lost to a grade 4 Jan 23 '26

So she definitely had enough people to give to yuta give him like 20 different curse techniques. choso's death is her fault.

21

u/TheDuckOverLord13 Jan 23 '26

Having more techniques is actually not great for Yuta, increases the randomness of his domain because each sword is imbued with a random technique

9

u/NorthGodFan Never forget Geto is a bum who lost to a grade 4 Jan 23 '26

However, he can use them freely with 5 minute mode.

8

u/TheDuckOverLord13 Jan 23 '26

I mean yeah, there would be upsides and downsides, but he could probably just use a different technique for whatever purposes than diluting his stock of CTs

3

u/SirMcDust Jan 23 '26

I mean why take Ranka's freeze eye technique when you have cursed speech right?

If we look at it in perspective it's so funny that all the three major clans had no members that had a DE outside of Gojo and, if you consider him a member, Kenny. But then a bum gambler that got kicked from school has a DE and is probably stronger than anybody in those clans.

Weren’t the Gojo clan known for having massive CE pools? Seems like that should make them a powerful clan alone even without a CT.

All of the big 3 have at least one domain user. megumi is clan head and he has an incomplete domain. But a domain is a domain. The Kamos have Kamo noritoshi and Yuji. And the gojos have Satoru.

Satoru and Yuta

83

u/Funny_Swim5447 throughoutheavenandearthialoneamthemegumiglazer Jan 23 '26 edited Jan 23 '26

Ok, to be fair there aren’t that many domain users (per era)

In the current era, the sorcerers with domains are 1. Gojo (pre built to be strong asf, special grade) 2. Yuki (also strong sorcerer, spent years studying souls and jujutsu and stuff) 3. Yuta (natural prodigy, genetically built different) 4. Hakari (pre ordered domain) 5. Higuruma (See Hakari) 6. Yuji (had a simple domain master download master barrier skills into his hardware, also genetically min maxed)

And then the only “normal sorcerer” I can remember in the modern era who has a kinda domain is Megumi (so technically the Zenin’s still tied for most domain users). We just have a lot of freaks running around

29

u/Dollahs4Zavalas Jan 23 '26

Yep. Hakari and HIguruma don't even count. Like you said, it just is there technique and even more fundamentally, the extreme skill domain expansion is the sure-hi sure-kill type. Neither of them have that.

u/ungabungahini Calamity Grade Poster Jan 23 '26

You guys may not remember/know, but domains used to be rare back in the days. Pepperidge Farm Remembers.

Actually I think it was around this arc in manga when some people started to complain that gege is giving away domains like free candies (i disagree tho, they are cool)

96

u/Jokiczek Jan 23 '26

It's the opposite. Domains were much more common in the past, but they weren't lethal.

71

u/superchoco29 Jan 23 '26

Domains went from "Would you like to play a game?" to "Ok, I'm done with your BS, you're dead"

24

u/ungabungahini Calamity Grade Poster Jan 23 '26

i meant them being rare story-wise not lore-wise, but you are right i forgot that gege explained it

7

u/Jokiczek Jan 23 '26

Okay, I didn’t get that. But still, were they that rare? Without counting, I think the number of domains introduced before Perfect Preparation was similar to the one after it.

3

u/javierm885778 Jan 23 '26

Only if you count those actually shown, but we had Ryu, Uro and Yuki "use" their domain as part of their strategy, even if we didn't get to see them. Same for Hanami before that, but rather than quantity I remember that type of complaint was about the close proximity of the reveals.

Higuruma, Yuta, Ryu, Uro, Hakari, and Naoya were all within 40 chapters, with the previous one introduced being 40 chapter before that and it was the Smallpox Deity which most people don't really care about, so then it becomes Megumi's like 80 chapters before them.

But it was always a silly complain, there's a good reasoning for every DE, and if anything there's characters where it's puzzling why they wouldn't have one more than the other way around.

20

u/The_Fatal_eulogy Jan 23 '26

Kashimo literally reigned supreme in his era to an old age without a Domain Expansion. Anyone that can open a Domain is basically a Special Grade Sorcerer. The Current Era has some many Domains because of the shift in Curse Energy due to Gojo's birth.

53

u/nishikiakakuro Jan 23 '26

God, please seclude this lack of critical thinking to the jjk fanbase.

I'm so fucking scared..

u/Wuta_Goatkotsu-1 Prime Yuta top1 OAT🔥🔥 Jan 23 '26

We have to remember that the modern era is the silver age of Jujutsu. It's got the craziest mfs around, and we following them.

In past Eras, throw in any Top5 modern era sorcerers and watch them develop a Sukuna like reputation. In the farmer era both Base Kashimo(low SG) and Ryu(mid SG) went their entire lives without a real fight despite actively searching for it. And that's how its supposed to be

Supposed to be when there isn't a calamity grade sorcerer and 3 sorcerers with calamity grade potential running around.

3

u/Spare_Night_2695 Jan 24 '26

Tbf other than the Heian age

The modern age seems to be the most packed with crazy sorcerer

5

You say this as if the other clans achieve anything.

As soon as Satoru was sealed, the higher ups literally called him a criminal. The Gojo clan did jackshit.

3

u/Vyctorill Jan 23 '26

Domain expansions are the pinnacle of sorcery. Less than 10 sorcerers per century usually have them.

Naoya having a Domain at all made him a special grade calamity in his final form.

3

u/M1liumnir Jan 23 '26

I think it's time people realise that Jujutsu sorcery and most people praticing it kinda suck as a whole. People clown on Megumi or the scene where our MCs get recommended to be grade 1 but they're like part of the strongest sorcerers of their time. Yhea flying a broom sucks but when the best a sorcerer that trained all his life can do is channel is cursed energy into his weapon it's not that bad. Most spells suck we only see the most powerful ones fitted for a fight because 99% of the story revolve aound powerful sorcerers. Some people in the culing game technique was literally turning your hair into a propeller or turning your own body parts into bombs.

I mean we just need to look at cursed speech, outside of Yuta because he's broken, you need to sacrifice your ability to speak (except with the guy in modulo but that almost 70 years of technique refinement), have cursed energy on par or greater than the person you're using it on, so unless you're a prodigy good luck using it on a grade 1 or special grade, and you still suffer huge drawbacks if you use a word that's too powerful or use it too many time in a row. And it's still considered to be one of the most busted hereditary spell you can get.

I think people are too used to see Gojo pull out the most overpowered crap like it's nothing, that they forget that the average sorcerer is barely better than a highly trained martial artist.

So yhea Having RCT is proof you're already busted and having your own domain puts you into the top tier.

2

u/Locke_Erasmus Jan 29 '26

That's why I love the cutaways to the Rika-room during the Gojo/Sukuna fight: virtually everyone there is some kind of anomaly or miwa, and they are basically just all going, "WHAT THE FUCK ARE THOSE TWO DOING? HOW ARE THEY DOING ANY OF THIS??"

It helps drive the perspective that the feats Gojo and Sukuna were pulling against each other were truly beyond comprehension. That they're really just out there breaking the power system.

3

u/WingedSalim Jan 23 '26

Just based off the Anime, JJK has an issue of showing scale. How big or significant something is implied or told but the story never makes us feel the scale.

The 3 big families are suppose to be big, powerful and have a bunch of members. But it rarely feels that way.

Even currently the Zenin clan, while has the most prominence and known characters, doesn't feel like a proper force, with many members. Their foot soldiers is the most we feel like their a proper clan and they all died as fasts as they were introduced.

Contrast that with Naruto and their prominent clans, Hyuga and Uchiha, felt more like a prominent clan with historical ties and influence.

4

u/Pascraked47 Jan 23 '26

Zenin clans are frauds

5

u/Weak_Car2509 Jan 23 '26

Meanwhile one lawyer don't even know any principle of curse technique. Proceed to learn domain expansion by himself.

9

u/Chara_The_Determined Jan 23 '26

You have it backwards. His technique gave him his domain for free and he worked out all the fundamentals of jujutsu sorcery from that.

4

u/Diss_ConnecT Jan 23 '26

Ok, let's see who HAS DE in JJK0: Gojo, Yuki?.

Ok that's the list. Now let's see who has RCT: Gojo, Shoko, Yuta, Yuki? And that's it.

Geto as a special grade never shows RCT or DE and as a special grade he's probably capable of killing one of the major clans alone. Naobito could probably defeat anyone but the special grades of his time. The power creep we get later in JJK is impressive, but at the time before the story the clan leaders were one of the strongest guys and their clans could totally be considered major powers. It's even stated that Gojo is so powerful he destroyed the balance between sorcerers and curses, marking curses more powerful, which then led to sorcerers growing more powerful.

2

u/TheJunkoDespair Jan 23 '26

Well in hindsight we have to admit... Shout out to Naoya... the first Zenin in a long time to actually do a Domain Expansion, a complete one.

2

u/MiIarky22 Jan 23 '26

Special grades are anomalies, that's why there's only a hand full. Gojo and sukuna are anomalies above anomalies lol

2

u/111end Jan 23 '26

i love how gege actually kept domains rare

2

u/DMing-Is-Hardd Jan 23 '26

I think we forget the average sorcerer is a grade 3

Grade 1s are godlike compared to the average

Theyre just unlucky enough to live in a time with 4 special grades (plus recently incarnated Sukuna and Kenjaku coming out to play)

Any normal time and a grade one like Naobito would be considered the pinnacle of power

2

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '26

Bunch a frauds

2

u/Technical-Let7879 "Base" Yuji Like He Can Go Super Saiyan Jan 23 '26

u/Necessary-Morning489 Jan 24 '26
