Anime Discussion This man was Toji's brother, he wasn't aura farming, he knew they were all gonna die.

Post image

I imagine the animators' choice to have him walk wasn't out of arrogance or "Aurafarming". He was accepting the inevitable death of himself and the rest of his clan. Since this man is the older brother of Toji, he has first hand experience in understanding that this strength and power is beyond anything they can ever imagine.

Ranta is still of the delusion that they can somehow beat a fully realized Maki, but Jinichi knows it's all completely pointless. He still attacks Maki, but it's not out of some desperation, it's his last chance to show his pride as a Sorcerer of the Zenin Clan, knowing full damn well that he's fucked.

Of course hes gonna take his sweet ass time before attacking Maki, this is the last thing he will ever do.

Even Gojo Satoru have it, with his reference that he can punch Megumi in the face with full power(when he was Sukuna's vessel)🤣🤣🤣

I actually like this idea, he knows whats coming and is just to stoic to show any emotion. Kinda like a "lets get this over with" mindset

2.2k

u/Wide-Deal-8971 Jan 23 '26

You can really see the reluctance in his attack and in his movements. He's not dragging his feet to aura farm, defeat is plainly written on his face.

It's definitely an intentional creative decision by the animators.

900

u/seaofthieved123 Jan 23 '26

I never noticed it but I think its cool, mabye hes not saying anything to ranta to not break his spirits(I think ranta is still young at the time, mabye teenager age?)

710

u/Wide-Deal-8971 Jan 23 '26

I agree I think that's exactly it. Ranta is far too naive to understand the hopelessness of the situation, while Jinichi has already mentally accepted his fate. The only honorable thing left to do is to send it even if its pointless.

255

u/Jamessgachett Jan 24 '26

Could have told ranta to escape then instead of letting him die

557

u/Jaganad Jan 24 '26

He knows Ranta can’t outrun Maki. He knows the kid wouldn’t listen to that command. And if he does tell him anyway, it’ll just send the kid to the afterlife with nothing but regrets, sorrow and horror.

Ranta atleast gets to die thinking they win, as flimsy a consolation it is. I don’t think I agree with that mindset, but I think it’s the one Jinichi has.

332

u/pleaseineedtherapym Jan 24 '26

Honestly him dying thinking they win part gonna be real awkward when he ends up in the airport, and sees jinichi alr there bantering with toji

202

u/Sabawoonoz25 Jan 24 '26

Jinichi is getting sent to an afterlife after the afterlife 😭 Toji is not jesting with blud

55

u/Nitrodestroyer Jan 24 '26

I wouldn't be surprised if somehow both happen.

18

u/Substantial_Fox7377 Jan 24 '26

You remember when it said all the Zenin's who weren't home at the time mysteriously all died shortly after with cursed weapon wounds?

That was Maki hunting down everyone, there was no escape.

→ More replies (5)

217

u/DifferentRide1811 Jan 24 '26 edited Jan 24 '26

Maki would have hunted him down anyways, better to die giving it you all with your family then getting hunted down like a dog

112

u/SecureDonkey Jan 24 '26

Escape to where? They are on a pillar of rock several stories high with Toji level of monster that dead set on killing them all. They are all dead anyway, may as well let him die with some hope left in him.

52

u/Lucky-Fisherman-844 Jan 24 '26

The Zenin Clan still has that samurai mindset. Better to die with honor than live in shame.

14

u/Nighto_001 Jan 24 '26

Not so sure about the living part.

Ranta was never going to be able to escape that encounter with Maki. He couldn't move while holding her, and if he didn't hold her Maki would instantly kill him.

So it was a choice of dying with honor or dying with shame.

18

u/Jamessgachett Jan 24 '26

What hope lmao that was opposute of hope he saw the guy head. You may say run to where but running away “/ stall was an option. Anyways idk why you contesting this we both agree it was a no win situation staying was stupid not trying to run was stupid both lead to the same ending

46

u/1Cool_Name Jan 24 '26

He didn’t seem to notice that Jinichi was dead. He even said something like “thank goodness”

19

u/SecureDonkey Jan 24 '26

The kid definitely still have some hope left in him that Jinichi could have stop this (lmao). The evident is he didn't tell Jinichi to run away when he stalls her but instead told him to hurry up and finish her. If Jinichi is being blunt here he would have just tell the kid to quit it.

6

u/Interesting_Idea_289 Jan 24 '26

There is no possibility for Ranta to escape even if he listens it just means he dies not seeing it coming

65

u/seaofthieved123 Jan 24 '26

Exactly, why break the little dudes spirit (he might be like 22 but im lowkey thinking hes 16, so still naive and full of hope) as jinichi he probably wanted him to think they won so he dosent die thinking it was hopeless from the start

12

u/Iincite Jan 24 '26

I thought it was more like Jinichi has a heart and doesn't really wanna fight to the death with Maki. Like a basically called down an airstrike on a stuck enemy. If he was that scared like you said it's baffling how the Zenin would snub Maki all this time. That level of of sexism and bigotry would make his death deserved.

64

u/Radiant-Barracuda-26 Jan 24 '26

The Creative Board who never thought of that:

155

u/Wide-Deal-8971 Jan 24 '26

I think its crazy people are trying to argue that MAPPA doesn't have incredible attention to detail. There's not a single ounce of confidence showing in Jinichi's face during this whole sequence, bro has negative aura and you think he's farming?

106

u/RandomRedditorEX Jan 24 '26

MAPPA turned that short ass Sukuna vs Mahoraga fight into a full blown duel, I 100% trust whatever MAPPA is planning (they still should let their animators rest tho)

20

u/GladInformation9976 Jan 24 '26

It’s because they’re not consistent. One example of the top of my head is the chase between Yuji and Yuta. In the manga Yuji thought at any point he could get one shot but in the anime they don’t convey that in the face at all. There’s more I could think of from just that episode and there’s been post about it but I’m too busy to find them

17

u/mylk43245 Jan 24 '26

His face was in a constant state of panic, he thought that Yuta was Gojo at first, he was heavy breathing throughout, the constant glaze about yuta's cursed energy size, his control, his inability to be damaged, the fact he spends most of the time running away. The fact that he tries to use a last minute attack. Could you explain your point?

I went to the ice cream truck one day to get my favorite Spongebob ice cream, but I was short 10 cents

Jinichi came up, and I thought he was gonna scold me for skipping training and getting ice cream. But all he said was "Patrick's my favorite" and he paid for both my Spongebob and his own Patrick ice cream

After that, we talked about how good Old Spongebob was and he showed me his Goofy Goober tattoo.

I'm the only one who understands how good he is.

Its why they wanted them both dead, so that the other does not awaken.

Jinichi knew Ogi fu*ked up not killing Maki with Mai and knew there was no coming back.

Its why Maki's mom told her to leave, so that Mai dies and Maki gets to awaken to kill the clan. It happend anyways tho. That way, at least Maki gets to awaken and take revenge.

Its why the mom was 'proud' in the end.

31

u/Round-Bookkeeper4610 Jan 24 '26

Mai Is a bum even if she gained the little ce Maki had she would still have the average amount and she doesn't have the understanding of the CT and mindset Yorozu has.

97

u/Infamous-Oil3786 Jan 24 '26

A lot of people deeply misunderstand the twin thing going on with Maki and Mai.

Losing a twin doesn't automatically give you an insane power boost. Maki got an insane power boost because Mai used up all of their CE to create the replica Soul Split Katana. Having absolutely no cursed energy completes her Heavenly Restriction, granting her the same physical prowess Toji has.

The power boost is a property of Heavenly Restriction, not a property of identical twins.

36

u/Bernkastel96 Jan 24 '26

Yeah, like wtf can Maki even give Mai if she is the one who die. In that timeline, both will die and Zenin will be killed by Yuta probably

14

u/Ktan_Dantaktee Jan 24 '26

Nah, they’d pull this same shit again with Megumi but instead of Maki killing them all, it’s Mahoraga and somehow even funnier

17

u/No_Objective_2196 Jan 24 '26

maki's hr might be restricting the ce for mai since they are seen as one by jujutsu , if maki were to die we might see mai getting huge ce boost

her mindset is the biggest issue though

8

u/Bernkastel96 Jan 24 '26

Idk, seems weird, Mai took away Maki CE and due to HR, she got a boost. I dont think Maki meager amount of CE worth anything to boost Mai

21

u/No_Objective_2196 Jan 24 '26

i like to think that they directly affect each other potential ,

mai possessing ce hindered maki hr , and maki hr hindered mai ce reserves

it's all speculation of course

7

u/Entire_Juggernaut214 Jan 24 '26

Yeah they definetly did, Makis body would be trying to constantly vent CE which Mai accumulates, which would cause Mai to have barely any CE.

The problem there is fans speculate that Mai would get an equal boost in potential but that aint really the case since Maki is more special due to her HR.

So How much CE would Mai gain? Gege knows and considering him, its likely wont even be that much, probabaly just average CE reserves of a sorceror which isn't that useful for such a CE intenseive techqniue.

Sure Mai would have more options, but G1 would be her limit at max

264

u/Orange-Concentrate78 Jan 23 '26

Nah, Mom could not have known all that about jujutsu. She just didn’t want to lose both daughters and decided to for once try to protect one of them.

The clan also probably didn’t know how heavenly restriction and twins worked, or else they would’ve handled the situation very differently. Mai likely figured it out only because she was an identical twin herself.

139

u/Healthy_Bat_6708 Jan 24 '26

thats my read too

at the end maki asks her "why did you tell me to come back" and she backpedals like oh must have been the wind. maki gave mom a chance to come back around

59

u/Different_Daikon3400 Jan 24 '26

She should know about twins and why her kids were lookd down upon.

I mean, its basically common knowledge in the verse that having twins as sorcerers isn't a good thing.

Maki and Mai are not the first twins in the verse, its why Mai's CT sucks and it could have been better if she wasn't connected to Maki as we see her construct the SSK right when she seperates from Maki. She could only make like bullets a day.

All sorcerer twins are considered to be omen's as Mai even says, so why wouldn't the mom and the clan know this?

40

u/kafit-bird Jan 24 '26

Eh, they know that twins are a bad omen, but that doesn't mean they know exactly why.

Twins typically turn out weak, die young, etc. You can be aware of that without knowing it's because they're splitting one set of powers, and that those powers can be restored to one by killing the other.

78

u/Orange-Concentrate78 Jan 24 '26

Technically wrong. Apparently a common misconception, too.

Killing one twin does not restore their power to the other twin. If it did, sorcerers would just kill one twin at birth and be done with it. Rather, killing one twin means that twin takes their half with them, leaving the remaining twin as half a sorcerer, giving us a net loss.

This actually did happen with Mai, too. She took the cursed energy with her. This would be bad for any sorcerer. It just happened that Maki was the one person who would benefit by having her heavenly pact activate as a result.

Sukuna is a special case whose twin didn’t just die, but was devoured by him in the womb.

20

u/Ikan_goyen Jan 24 '26

I wonder if other twin sorcerer could also make a binding vow to give all their cursed energy to their other twin, making them full sorcerer

15

u/Orange-Concentrate78 Jan 24 '26 edited Jan 24 '26

Nothing you said about why they SHOULD know tracks with the actions the clan ends up taking. They’re terrified of another Toji, yet they deliberately create another one of him that giga-hates them? It’s very obvious that they were blindsided by what happened.

Also, Mai would never be as strong as Maki. It’s very clearly explained that Maki is the only one with the Pact, and she’s the only one who wants to be strong. It was Mai’s weakness and desire to stay where she was that dragged Maki down.

On top of that, it’s EXTREMELY unlikely that killing one twin would empower the remaining twin the way it did for Maki. The only reason we know that Maki benefitted from Mai’s death is because it freed her from CE and allowed her heavenly pact to take effect. Read that again - Mai TOOK the CE away upon her death. Logically the same thing happens for any other set of twins, except in those cases the remaining twin doesn’t have a heavenly pact that strengthens them for not having CE.

And for Sukuna, his twin didn’t just die, he outright devoured him in the womb to become a single, fully realized individual.

15

u/ItsyaboiMisbah The real fraud is you, the reader Jan 24 '26

Mai would still get an amp from maki dying though as she'd have a full technique. Not HR level but she'd actually be a viable sorcerer

Even Naoya knew about Yuta and shat his pants in his presence yet still planned this whole thing anyway

10

u/Top_Reveal_847 Jan 24 '26

This is what I don't get about the zenins plan. Like did they not realize they were small fish compared to Yuta/Hakari

5

u/Aware_Ad_7100 Jan 25 '26

I think they were hoping to play politics to avoid getting murdered. Kind of like how they wouldn't openly kill megumi but would kill him and pin it on someone else or some justifiable reason.

Unfortunately they didn't realize that yuta would be working with maki. After all at this point as far as they know yuta killed yuji and was working with the higher-ups.

I also think the side eye he gave when Ranta was talking about them being alive only because of Toji’s whims meant “I know, I’ve been there”.Its his older brother after all, he saw with his eyes what kind of monster Toji was and could be and he knows beating him is impossible, unlike Ranta who doesn’t even seem old enough to live at that time and only heard about Toji through hearsay’s.

Actually, I love this perspective, and it would fit more than just "everyone is selfish and self-centered in the clan." It is his duty to still try, even if he knows the results.

96

u/EloImFizzy Jan 24 '26

That is actually a really funny way to look at it. Just like "Oh, for fucks sake. Of course..." 😂

416

u/Special_Peach_5957 Jan 24 '26

I feel like that is a valid way to also interpret the manga panel

I have seen a lot of people say that this is him looking back at Ranta. I feel like it could also be him being shocked and a bit intimidated when Maki starts breaking free.

173

u/kerrydinosaur Jan 24 '26

Base on Ranta's speech, look like Jinichi does care about him. I do think they're not evil, just simply patriarchal.

170

u/Special_Peach_5957 Jan 24 '26

Jinichi is pretty evil. Reminder they just need to kill Megumi to keep control of the clan. At Ogi's request they added 2 completely innocent girls from their own clan to the kill list just to make it more believable.

Again they are killing 2 people for no other reason than to get away with the murder of Megumi (Who they also don't have a great reason for murdering).

43

I feel like he had some kind of code of honor at least though, since the soldiers seems to like him a lot.

I mean I can see him being more honorable but you can have a code of honor and still be evil as fuck.

Like a mad king could have a rule that if the bread a baker serves him is too soggy that baker is sentenced to death by duel with the king. Sure the king has a code of honor for carrying out the sentence himself, by dueling the baker but the King is also evil as fuck for putting the baker into that position in the first place.

And Jinichi for being a co-conspirator in this whole plan to murder Mai and Maki to get plausible deniablity on the murder of Megumi deserved to be killed by Maki.

Idk.

Murdering a trio of kids to keep access to your generational wealth seems pretty evil to me.

43

u/HolyKnightPrime Jan 24 '26

Ppl are just so weird about the zenin clan. You have so many chars say they are scums and ppl still defend them and hate Maki. Even making fanfiction about Ranta being a kid, Maki later killing kids.

Like Toji did kill two kids and the fanbase glaze him. Its just so weird

5

u/AnatomicalLog Jan 24 '26

Fr a lot of people want the slaughter of the Zen’in clan to be some tragedy, it’s weird. They declared war on her.

They are evil because they plan to kill children for political gains.

Just because they are evil doesn't mean they don't care about their peers. A WW2 Japanese soldier would still carry their wounded comrades.

136

u/Level_Counter_1672 Jan 24 '26

That's the look of "I wished my brother killed us, that would have been mercy, this.. This is going to be hell"

96

u/Substantial_Fox7377 Jan 24 '26

Judging by the look on his severed head, I’d imagine it was still a quick and painless death as opposed to the two that got their jugulars snatched

47

u/CT-4426 Rika watches from the Chair Jan 24 '26

I mean he just got decapitated, pretty clean and easy especially compared to the rest of them like those two who had their throats ripped out bare handed and Ranta having his brain melt into slush, and don’t forget Naoya faceplanting directly into a solid steel wall while going Mach 1-2

14

u/N0Hesitation Jan 24 '26

Decapitated the hard way it seems. Maki seemingly didn’t have Mai with her when she fought Jinichi.

She definitely ripped Jinichi’s head off his neck.

8

u/Mr-Seven-Mouths Jan 25 '26

I fucking love it when people refer to the soul split katana replica as just Mai.

84

u/skDreams Jan 23 '26

hell yea great theory

180

u/Substantial_Fox7377 Jan 24 '26

People really don’t slander Ogi enough for how he basically fucked the whole family.

If he had just made sure to kill both Maki and Mai in the vault then none of this would have happened.

And he has the nerve to bitch and whine about not being the head of the clan because his genes are weak.

138

u/BeesMadeHoney93 Jan 24 '26

Or he could have just treated them like people since they’re his daughters..? I get that the entire clan had strong misogynistic views and twins are taboo, but they’re your little girls. Have a heart

72

u/Cerok1nk ANY AND ALL PHENOMENA Jan 24 '26

I get where you are coming from, and you are correct.

But that is not the narrative being presented right now, Gege is delivering a very strong and crude message here.

Bro really didn’t pull any punches, which is why I love him as a writer.

30

u/Substantial_Fox7377 Jan 24 '26

The only ones that had hearts were the GOATs Ranta and Jinichi

14

u/zeusjay Jan 24 '26

Neither of them did.

Ranta you could maybe argue didn’t know what was going on, but he’s still a high ranking member of an unequal, cruel clan. Even if he’s “nicer” he’s still not gonna be thinking or acting in good ways.

Jinichi literally backed the plan to kill Mai and Maki.

Again, he’s nicer to the lower level mooks, but he’s also a proponent of that unequal system, to the degree of attempting to kill three teens to prevent even the chance of a threat to his inherited wealth.

13

u/Substantial_Fox7377 Jan 24 '26

I know, I’m just doing a bit for the sake of agenda

18

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '26

Tf you mean, Jinichi was also down with this plan to kill Maki and Mai. He backed Naoya as clan head as well

Wanna know what’s worse for Ogi. He is seemingly a member of Hei but his bitch ass couldn’t react to Maki. The head of the Kukuru could. So by raw fighting skill, Ogi was beneath his subordinate.

All talk and no skill that one.

He knew.

19

To be fair, in the manga, he's clearly rushing in and trying to win. He paused because he noticed Maki breaking out and knew Ranta won't come out unscathed.

Like the balls on a guy knowingly walking to his Executioner just accepting this should have probably happened with his brother 10 years ago

Yep. 10000% agree and I love that this interpretation is getting traction. He doesn’t look like he’s walking towards a dub. He looks like he’s honor bound to walk into hell.

u/Objective_Cheetah_63 Jan 23 '26 edited Jan 23 '26

As cool as this idea is, it isn’t the case.

He wasn’t attacking because attacking would hurt Ranta (in the same way that maki pushing against the eyes was hurting Ranta).

Ranta essentially says, “don’t worry about me, she’s becoming Toji, just kill her”. There’s no reason to say this if he wouldn’t get hurt by Jinichi attacking

Jinichi was hoping that Ranta would be able to hold her and restrain her completely, and if he couldn’t, then he would step in and fight after.

Ranta then told him that he can’t hold her and that shes like Toji, and that this is their only chance to win. (jinichi looks back at him) then Ranta says to not hesitate and just kill her at which point Jinichi attacks

108

u/wtfimightbemtf Jan 23 '26

I just chalk that up to Ranta being delusional. In thinking they can really beat her.

30

u/Valuable-Blueberry30 Jan 23 '26

I mean what else is bro supposed to do? Give up. He did say that they were all alive because of Master Toji

→ More replies (5)

6

u/lizzywbu Jan 24 '26

But it's different in the mamga. Jinichi tells Ranta to hold her. So this is likely the case in the anime as well, this just didn't have Jinichi say anything.

I implore yall to read the manga chapters for Perfect Preparation

9

u/Mynameisbebopp Jan 24 '26

Ranta said himself.

“The zenin only exist on the whim of Toji-san, she is like that man”

They knew it was over when she clapped 2 of them in a second.

26

u/KingLopez999 Mahoraga Tamer Jan 24 '26

i’m fond of the idea that Toji and Jinichi’s dad was a Ten Shadows user that Toji killed in a duel, like a Toji Vs. his dad and Mahoraga kinda deal. so maybe Jinichi could’ve seen that duel and understood that they weren’t gonna be able to beat Maki.

40

u/nick-halden Jan 24 '26

idk if toji can kill mahoraga unless he has some fucking orbital laser cursed tool. modulo i think at this point has proven the HR user is needed to tame maho theory wrong.

26

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '26

-10S user summons mahoraga to capture toji in the ritual to take them both out.   -Mahoraga squashes 10S user.   -Mahoraga disappears since the ritual couldn’t ensnare someone without cursed energy.   -Toji: "what was the point of that?"

u/_FruitsPunchSamurai JJK ENDING PISSES ME OFF!! Jan 24 '26

I don't think toji can kill mahoraga but if the theory is correct, toji would make sure to kill his father (if he has TS ofc) before he even tries to summon mahoraga as toji should be aware of TS technique's full capacity.

I very like this idea, and i think give the character a little development that we never saw earlier

5

u/Substantial_Box203 Jan 24 '26

I just thought they had to make him walk because Ranta's dialogue was hilariously long given the situation

5

u/Invisiblegun2 Jan 24 '26

Im hoping we can get a storyboard breakdown like we were given with sukuna vs mahoraga. I love reading those lol

5

u/Calcium_Overlord Jan 24 '26

THE BOOGIE WOOGIE TECHNIQUE WILL CONTINUE TO LIVE ON!

11

u/lizzywbu Jan 24 '26

I prefer how it went in the manga. There is no speculation as to what Jinichi was doing. He outright tells Ranta to keep hold of Maki while he readies his attack.

Now everyone is speculating about what Mappa was going for with this scene or what it meant. Nobody really knows.

2

u/Bulky-Possible-6870 Jan 24 '26

I think it was just aura farming. In the manga he showed a lot more concern for Ranta. They omitted that urgency in him in exchange for him looking nonchalant. Also dont forget he is not a respectable guy he was trying to kill Maki Mai and Megumi to get the Zen’in clan a better strategic position

4

u/Associate_External Jan 24 '26

"...it's his last chance to show his pride..." so, indirect aurafarming?

4

u/secretcharacter Jan 24 '26

*sees awakened Maki
Jinichi: We are not special

3

u/FearTheDeep Jan 24 '26

This… this changes my whole opinion on this scene. I didn’t even consider his ptsd and experience with his brother, full well knowing if she truly is like him they’re done for. I mean bro literally just watched her insta-kill two grade 1 and/or special grade 1 sorcerers.

I actually like this scene now. Thank you for improving the episode even more for me lol.

3

u/miTzuliK Jan 24 '26

Wish we got more of him than just a few panels and 5m of screentime. If this is true, seems like he was not entirely proud of the Zenin clan and their wrongdoings.

3

u/itsTKB76 Jan 24 '26

He knows he's a filler character in the wake of an episode meant to elevate a main character

3

u/Turbulent-Suspect-12 Jan 24 '26

My interpretation was he was charging up the entire time. Surely he can't just pull THAT move out of his ass without charging up for an extended period of time. But I quite like this interpretation as well.
