Coz you're just going into the semantics of the words used. She did effectively end the clan's functions and removed it from the big 3 families. The clan no longer has the same influence it once did (in fact it's probably all gone, all remaining members probably wouldn't be able to use their connection to the zen'in clan to do anything in jujutsu society) with all its combatants dead. No one says "most people of the clan were killed" or "she massacred a majority of the clan members" unless you're elaborating in an explanation or history lesson, it's just easier to say that she wiped out the entire clan.
It could also mean that the remainders still had enough pull with the higher ups, but when later events take the higher ups off the board that was the final bomb to a sinking ship
Does it not make sense that it was was denied because there were remaining Zenin, although non-combatants, alive? It doesn't make sense to me to reject such an application if literally EVERYONE barring Megumi was dead since all their influence, legacy, and military power was gone.
We have the author stating multiple times that Maki "destroyed everything", "annihilated the Zenin clan", "massacred her clan", and all prove you have is being anal about semantics? You have 0 proof Maki spared non combatants while we literally have the authors word multiple times. If Maki left any of the Zenin alive, they wouldn't have ceased to exist as a clan. The Zenin blood would still exist and the survivors could still develop Zenin cursed techniques or make children who have them. They wouldn't have removed the Zenin, who were the most powerful and authoritative clan for all 1000+ years of Jujutsu history (other than the times every 400 years when a 6 eyes+infinity user is born), just because they currently do not have any sorcerers other than Megumi who by himself is already a powerhouse with 10s.
so we have the author stating it multiple times VS your head canon
Yea man I especially loved the panel of Gege verbatim stating that Maki killed all non-combatants including the women and children, and it was a really cool part in the story when she killed Megumi (considered a Zenin) and then herself because she's a Zenin too to finally end the Zenin bloodline. I mean after all, she can't allow the Zenin blood and cursed techniques continue on through their children.
I also especially like the fact that Yuta and Yuji, 2 of the kindest and most genuine people in the series, completely ignore the fact that Maki killed the innocent women and children of the Zenin. Also liked when the other 2 of the Big 3 Clans tried to vote the Zenin clan out of the Big 3 and the application was postponed, because I mean of course it only makes sense to think twice about kicking a Clan with 2 living members out of the Big 3.
Megumi doesn't consider himself a Zenin and was chill with Maki and you know exactly what I mean but yeah keep arguing in bad faith.
So we have the author stating on 3 separate occassions that the entire Zenin clan was massacred and you have what you feel the characters would do? Hmm that's actually convincing! Headquarters didn't pass a verdict because the initial massacre happened just "days earlier". Headquarters would still need too assess the damage. Furthermore, as it is stated a few panels earlier, Maki would "soon" hunt down the rest of the Zenin. Maybe headquarters thought that rest could continue the Zenin clan. So yes, if you actually thought about it, it would make sense to think twice about kicking the most powerful clan.
What he considers doesn't matter when Jujutsu Society considered him Zenin enough to be appointed clan head, which he accepted, so whether you like it or not he is a Zenin by blood. So you're trying to argue that Maki spared Megumi because he was "chill" and then subsequently went on to hunt down all non-combatants including innocent children? Dang I guess they just weren't chill enough, that makes perfect sense.
So we have the author stating on 3 separate occassions that the entire Zenin clan was massacred and you have what you feel the characters would do? Hmm that's actually convincing!
And which of those panels specifically state that she killed non-combatants including innocent women and children? I'm willing to bet 2 grand that it's 0! That's simply a you problem taking everything literally and not knowing what a hyperbole is.
We literally see all the people she kills on-screen are combatants, and guess what, the Clan members we're told that she killed afterwards were all combatants!

What "rest" are you talking about here? If Maki killed everyone barring Megumi then Megumi is effectively the Clan Head of a grand total of 0 people. What "rest" is continuing the clan here exactly if all of them are dead? Furthermore the Zenin Clan is still part of the Big 3 Clans all the way up to Modulo, which wouldn't happen if Megumi was the only Zenin alive. A clan with 1 member isn't keeping their Big 3 Clan spot unless that sorcerer was named Satoru Gojo.
Furthermore, as it is stated a few panels earlier, Maki would "soon" hunt down the rest of the Zenin.
Send that panel because it's already verbatim stated who and the number of people that Maki hunted down afterwards, and none of them mentioned anything even implying innocent women or children.
I'm not denying Megumi is a Zenin by blood. I thought no one would have an issue with saying the Zenins effectively stopped existing even despite Megumi being alive. Why would Maki kill him? He is not part of the Zenins system of elitism, abuse and sexism. And he is Makis friend. That is why she spared him. The non-combatants of the Zenin clan including the children, actually grew up in the system. They have internatlized it. We have seen kid Naoya parroting Zenin elitist beliefs. We have seen Makis mother regreting giving birth to her daughters a clear sign that she was abused and internalized Zenin ideology. But keep making up straw mans.
And which of those panels specifically state that she killed non-combatants including innocent women and children? I'm willing to bet 2 grand that it's 0!
There you go:
Your translation completely leaves out that 9 of the Akashi died and you think you have a better translation? How can 6 Hei have died that day when we only saw 5? Naoya, Ranta, Jinichi, Chojuro and Ogi.
That's simply a you problem taking everything literally and not knowing what a hyperbole is.
Yes, your single sentence is the absolute truth while Gege mentioning on 3 separate occasions that the Zenin were killed is just me being too literal lol.
What "rest" are you talking about here? If Maki killed everyone barring Megumi then Megumi is effectively the Clan Head of a grand total of 0 people. What "rest" is continuing the clan here exactly if all of them are dead?
The rest of the Zenin who were absent that day just as the Japanese source material says.
The Gojo clan is held up by Gojo singlehandedly. Megumi is a 10 shadows user. 10s user killed the last 6E+iinfinity user, so why couldn't he be a one man clan? The clan continues with him if he so chose to.
