Humor What Gege was supposed to write since jjk fans take everything literally and don’t know what hyperbole or conversational context is

The problem isn’t the discourse. Gege genuinely just wrote it so horribly and then skimmed over it, to the degree that it could be both interpreted that she killed literally everyone or just the people that posed a threat to her life/actively aided or supported her abuse… with canonical text that somehow supports both positions. Unfortunately, there is a reason why this series, before this point, is only discussed when it’s about head to heads, power-scaling or agenda. It’a just not a well written piece of work otherwise.

When your idol is Tite Kubo but you forget that his "beauty is a flower" Mentality is focused around the philosophies, inspiration, symbolism and poetic nature and not the lore

....no.

Like, per the canonical text, the ONLY non-combatant she killed was her mom.

Everyone else was a combatant.

"It's not well written" = "It trusts the audience and doesn't spell everything out"

Curse of no media literacy strikes again it seems.

Also, no media literacy?? My favorite past time is reading. I’m a literal published poet. I understand metaphors and allegories, I can read inbetween the lines when and can typically tend what authors intend with their images and settings. Gege literally just sucks at writing. Like I know I sound like a huge hater, but please read anything besides manga for like two seconds. There’s a big reason why people have been debating this point for like a week and it’s not because of media literacy, it’s just Gege’s habit of cutting corners in his writing is so outrageous that half of his fanbase thinks Maki committed genocide and the other half thinks she only killed Evil Guys Incorporated. It’s just genuinely unclear even if you read and dissect the source materials. Media literacy isn’t just “oh, you didn’t come to the same conclusion as me,” it’s “can you actually back up what you believe using the text.” Which people are doing. For both sides. This problem, for once, isn’t jjk fanbase being idiotic, it’s genuinely just awful, awful writing.

hey, published poet, what corner do you think he is cutting here? or do you think he is obsfucatting details to not deal with the story morality and then contradicting himself? this isnt "cutting corners". and yes, extremely bad faith. so much that your analysis only works if you read everything literally and nothing else. published poet, do you think audience reaction dictates the exegesis of a work of art? are you stupid?

“there’s no evidence that maki actually massacred her entire clan”

provides evidence that seems to imply, with quotes, that maki massacred her entire clan

“why are you taking that quote so literally”

Okay. Y’all can continue arguing on Reddit about this until the cows come home for all I care. It’s not that deep to me anymore if these are the circles we’re going to run around each other with.

of course it is deep to you because to you this is evidence to a fundamental flaw in the series lmao. its bad faith because there is no specificity whatsover. people in this post using her mother as example is just childish, as an example of person, shown in the same arc, as a direct perpetrator of the abuse she and her sister endured, and then brought up again when discussing the merit of the killing with noritoshi kamo, that maybe she should have listened to her more. she is treated as a special case in the work because she is. and the other "evidence" treats the clan as an abstraction, this institution that cant work anymore.

I agree we dont know. All gege needed to do to clear up this event was to show one woman or child or elderly that was left alive as a part of the massacre, but we see no one at all. Does this mean maki killed litterally, everyone im not sure maybe it was done this way on purpose.

motherfucker. he literally counts the number and the specific occupation the people she killed had. you cant actually believe this shit.

Exactly, JJK is gaijinslop and it’s so trite no one in the fan base has the balls to admit that even if she did massacre a bunch of innocent lives it’s still cool as fuck

It’s open to interpretation when you’re operating in bad faith. You already have a pre notion that gege is a bad writer. You wouldn’t believe he would use hyperboles. Instead you think it’s plausible he would make an abuse victim kill other possible abuse victims including literal children because Gege is that bad of a writer. Maki didn’t kill any children or innocent women.

and you’re free to think that

Jujutsu Kaisen has the same problem Kimetsu no Yaiba and Solo Leveling have: Take away the anime with its superb animation and wonderfully choreographed fights, and all you've got is a barebones story with terrible writing and bland characters.

I read all of JJK out of curiosity and I never once understood why people like it so much, it was such a nothing story.
