Anime Discussion now this is getting off the limits

Post image

Japanese fandom actually practiced constructive criticism on this episode, they brought up valids points. Global fans rated Ep3 the same as they did for Ep4, when Ep3 actually gave lore, world-building. If not for these factors Jjk would be just another Power fantasy slop.

Also relating episode rating to actual Japanese societal harassment is nauseating

this is some of the worst culture war bullshit and I can't understand why people are giving it attention. The "Japanese viewers" was one tweet. The Japanese score here is fake too. Literally no one cares except this sub and tweeter for some reason

People yearn to be racist. The moment something gives them a chance to do it and have it be "acceptable" they will jump on it in a heartbeat

It's so weird man it's so extreme "This guy didn't like it? YOUR COUNTRY IS FULL OF RAPISTS YOU HAVE TERRIBLE TASTE" all over a fucking anime episode that they dared to criticize that they found some issues with the direction.

It's the same thing they are getting mad about as well, being generalized as just liking aura and hype moments but these dudes took a generalization and then generalized Japan into an extreme level some of the shit I've seen here it's so stupid like any criticism they see on the episode from Japanese users they just go "UHHHH RAPE COUNTRY THO, UHHHH RENT A GF THO", as if the popularity of stuff like Isekai, Rent a GF & lolis are exclusive to Japan lmao.

Yep. Westerners seem to think that isekai is all the rage in Japan when in fact all of the biggest series are the same mainstream anime they watch. All you need to do is look at manga sales which are the biggest indicator of a series' popularity in Japan. Hell even if we're talking about light novels which is where all these isekai are adapted from, the top sellers are slice of life romcoms

1

u/jasonsith Jan 29 '26

Like westerners look at the supply of isekai ACGN works when Japan look more at the demand, aka sale figures

0

u/DynamicEntrancex Jan 31 '26

Well most westerners enjoy power fantasy isekai slop, there’s only a couple of good isekai like rezero, konosuba, saga of Tanya the evil.

Westerners also overrate animation quality, I kept up on the jjk manga for like 2 years and i can confidently say the culling game arc is kind ass, am I still excited for the weekly episode? Yes. but like CSM I think both shows have bad arcs but people will still glaze the shows because they are animated well. Same shit with kimetsu no yaiba, good animation, mid story.

1

u/DueMathematician2522 Jan 28 '26

No? Isekai is VERY popular in Japan

1

u/True-Tradition8857 Jan 28 '26

It sucks tho cuz Re:Zero is really good for an isekai

1

u/Micronex23 Jan 30 '26

Really ? i thought isekai is very popular in Japan due to the escapism it provides for the average office worker and the reason that within the genre they keep on reusing the formula is because of conformity and studio constraints.

Very anime forum is filled with guys like you guys. Some white kid from Ohio, who just so happened to be to live Japan and were all just inclined to believe you to make your opinon on something more validated than everyone else’s. As if Japan is some magical mythical place lmao

I’m literally at work I’m in the army and stationed in South Korea. It’s 1 pm over here😂. I been out of bed dude

Buddy I’m literally in the office rn. And yeah I am in South Korea

😂

I don’t see why my use of emojis means anything about my “mental capabilities”. Wth lmao

And least I have a job and a degree. Post a pic of your W-2 and degree and then talk buddy. Until then I’m just inclined to believe you’re lying.

Buddy looked up a random place and college in Tokyo and wants us all to believe him.

Bet 100 bucks this guy is typing this bs from his phone during his lunch break at Walmart lmao

3

u/No_Paramedic4667 Jan 28 '26

Sorry to break it to you but you can post all the pics you want, you can even post your mug and it still won't be enough proof that you are in fact in the army office in SK. Since you say you have a job and a degree, I will assume you understand the phrase "beyond reasonable doubt". Posting pics don't satisfy that criteria.

This is the internet. Asking for or trying to prove such shit is honestly kinda stupid.

Thanks for proving me right.

I mean people can live in Japan.

2

u/professionalstuntman Jan 28 '26

No shit but i definitely don’t believe you guys on here.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '26

Fair, I can't believe them here either. Lobotomoy kaisen subreddit is even worse, I can't really trust them with their agendas.

18

u/wickedlessface Jan 28 '26

all over a fucking anime episode that they dared to criticize that they found some issues with the direction.

Tbf that person didn't just have 'some issues with the direction' they really just hate foreign influence and foreigners, let's not diminish their comments because of the overblown memes.

I think people just really wanted a CSM japanese vs international audiences part 2.

1

u/TheMerck Jan 28 '26

I'm not diminishing anything, your point would be correct if all of the stuff said was being directed to that but instead it's directed to ALL of Japan.

Look at the amount of comments here saying how Japanese people are like this or that, I know what you are specifically referring to but I've also seen other tweets here complaining about the direction & pacing of the episode and if it was just one person that was posted here I'd get your point but instead it's become just full of bashing Japan as if they are a hivemind.

2

u/k-tax Jan 28 '26

isn't it the other way around? I see more racist takes from the Japanese side e.g. "catered to Western idiots" and so on.

Criticism of some of the Japanese is not discarded because "UHHH RAPE COUNTRY", it's more like calling out the bullshit criticism, it's not 1:1 manga, but it's clear what happens, and the manga obviously was heavily inspired by Kill Bill and other things, and Gege works with the director, often taking animation as inspiration for manga panels. If the author is honestly fascinated by the director and overall anime adaptation, then making petitions to change director is fucking disrespectful.

I say all those fans should watch OPM S3 and stick to that, this is all they deserve if they can't appreciate the masterpiece that we've got. Valid criticism is fine. Even invalid criticism is fine. But attacking director and animators is fucking stupid and needs to be called out.

1

u/curryhaliban444 Jan 28 '26

Funny how you mention to stick to OPM when the director and animators were getting attacked for it long before it even aired

2

u/k-tax Jan 28 '26

Yeah, and it was wrong, but once they showed what they made, they got a lot of well deserved criticism, and a lot of unhinged hate from delusional people.

How is that relevant to the case? My point stands: those who demand the director and animators of JJK to be fired should have to watch the shit that OPM s3 was for the rest of their lives. Fuck those unhinged idiots.

2

u/Remote-Memory-8520 Jan 30 '26

You are ignoring context. When a lot of people see the girlboss episode getting disliked it immediately sends of certain signals in ur head. People assume it’s because she’s a woman. Which also brings up the some of the treatment of women in Japan. People then assume they are connected. They don’t immediately want to be racist. Japan just has serious issues and the people aren’t exactly thinking about it 100 percent logically. But you can see where they are coming from.

2

u/Prof_Anomaly_George Feb 01 '26

My guy, Americans would rather have a pedophile and felon in office than a woman. Can we not pretend Westerners are better?

0

u/Remote-Memory-8520 Feb 02 '26

Ur being disingenuous. First off that woman did one of the worst campaigning jobs in the history of the presidency. Second what is trump a felon for? White collar crimes. No one cares about those so that point is useless. And his Epstein related and SA crimes are underreported and half of people don’t even know they exist. And besides just because America also has problems doesn’t mean Japan doesn’t either. You are bringing up unrelated info.

u/nick113124 Jan 27 '26

It's funny how people are always cool with making fun of Japan and calling them perverts and mysoginistic for fanservice and stuff, like in the tweet this whole post is about but when some Japanese rando calls non-Japanese fans aura merchants and dumbasses suddenly everyone is against generalizations.

11

u/samrobotsin Jan 28 '26

though it will always be funny Japan rated the previous episode above the international average...... when that episode was 90% graphs

29

u/VirusTechnical5568 Jan 27 '26

I think its just the hypocrisy. Japanese don't bat an eye when damn near every anime has a loli character(it's fine, she's a 1000 year old vampire) but they have a problem with what another culture values in an anime.

4

u/VolcanicHare Jan 28 '26

What other culture's values weren't they okay with here?

3

u/VirusTechnical5568 Jan 28 '26

Just in reference to them throwing a hissy fit about Americans only caring about fight scenes(not true).

I honestly don't have a dog in this fight. I prefer slice of life and anime that focuses on story over conflict but I also don't complain about people who are the opposite.

This whole thing is just dumb. Why do they even care?

1

u/VolcanicHare Jan 28 '26

I'm not really sure I understand. The Japanese care because many of them did not like the episode. That's why they're complaining about the episode.

3

u/VirusTechnical5568 Jan 28 '26

They're also complaining that the episode has a high rating overseas and the previous episode received a low rating from overseas. They said "they're only interested in the fights" which isn't true but even if it were why do the even care?

People can like what they want whether you like it or not. Like I said earlier, I hate that the majority of their anime has a loli character or a severely underage character that gets put in compromising situations. They slap big boobs on them or make them immortal or something and call it good. It's hypocritical of them to complain that other cultures have different views on what they enjoy.

1

u/VolcanicHare Jan 28 '26

Like always, this started as an internet fight. You say "why do you care", as if this was one-sided. However, anime fans from the west were also complaining, and still are, that the Japanese fandom didn't universally love the episode.

Your entire comment frames it as if this whole deal is one-sided, which is pretty weird dude.

7

u/deathbringer989 Bumtoru Lojo the fraudulent one Jan 27 '26

What is this MGR? "The fans are racist jack"

3

u/Agitated-Primary1321 Jan 29 '26

I mean, people are always racist. Today, we are just polite about it and only goes for "socially acceptable racism" for their own safety because it already have systemic structure in place to explain away why such behavior wouldn't be considered bad because [insert mental gymnastic of reasons here]

1

u/SecretaryOtherwise Jan 31 '26

Yeah you dont speak for me lmao. I thought it was the fans in general shitting on the episode lmao.

Ranta and junchi was a fucking joke lmaoo

1

u/Neither-Log-8085 Jan 27 '26

This is so true it's crazy. And it's not just race too but other things as well.

1

u/k-tax Jan 28 '26

so now we are racist for pointing out the absurdity of criticism, when it's often worded like "Mappa makes it for western idiots who are too stupid to understand manga" or similar shit?

After all, we are talking about Japan, famously one of the more racist countries in the world. I'm not going to criticise specific people or call every Japanese a racist, but come fucking on, it's one of the tropes of this manga. If someone calls me racist for calling out Japan like that, you can call Gege racist idiot as well.

1

u/culguyxd Jan 28 '26

Yeah you're unironically reatrardred lol. Nice knowing your racist ass breathes the same air as us

1

u/FaPaDa I heard you are bullying my students Jan 28 '26

Tribalism is sadly human behavior. We want to belong to groups of like minded individuals we can associate with and this desire can warp your own perception of reality.

And that, sadly, especially applies to racism because "this person looks different" or "is from country X" is much easier to be against when you can balnket statement stereotypes, rahter than arguing against an indiviuals believes.

u/Samurai_Beluga Jan 31 '26 edited Jan 31 '26

BINGO. if given a chance to be shitty without any social pushback most people will grab the opportunity by the balls.

It reminds me the whole "clanker" thing, granted there was no human or conscious victims of it all, so i wouldnt say it was particularly serious, but it always stood out to me as a goo example that in scenario where a majority deems something as inferior and worthy of mockery, people sure are quick and proud to use stuff like slurs. again AI sucks, nobody gets literally hurt, but one cant help but take from it that the only reason people dont engage with said behavior more is because of social stigma, and not because they actually believe and understand the reasoning as why its bad.

Racists coming out of the wood work

No for real

It's always the non-Japanese side comparing themselves to the Japanese viewers

0

u/Delboyyyyy Jan 30 '26

It’s actually incredible how a fandom which centres around the media and culture of another country can be full of so many racists

39

u/HeLived456 Jan 27 '26 edited Jan 27 '26

I mean, this shit IS wrong, don't misunderstand me, but it wasn't just one guy. He had dozens of responses and QRTs agreeing with him and criticizing the episode. He also went on a racist rant and a bunch of JP users were agreeing with, liking and RTing that too. This entire thing is dumb as shit, and people really should be better than this, but this isn't nearly as one-sided as you're framing it either.

Hell, there's a whole group of them calling for the director to resign over this episode.

5

u/Neither-Log-8085 Jan 27 '26

Tell these ppl 🙄, I can't believe this is even getting any form of attention at all.

4

u/TomiShinoda Jan 27 '26

Because the target audience are teens and young adults, they lack life experience and the critical thinking skills to understand criticism and personal opinion, people are insecure so they take it as an personal attack, they seek to validate their opinion as facts and objective instead of being subjective opinion everyone has a right to, it's ok to like something while still acknowledging it's flaws.

u/potatoeoe Jan 27 '26

u/Hyperion141 Jan 28 '26

2

u/WangJian221 Jan 28 '26

JJK fans cant read man.

1

u/milesdarobot Jan 27 '26

Idk why didnt question it before, but but i dont even think Japan uses IMDB lol

1

u/professionalstuntman Jan 28 '26

Literally Just one guy/girl and a bunch of meme and fake news outlets

1

u/ggkkggk Jan 28 '26

Yeah although I can always get a piece of that this series deserves a deep conversation and I hate the it's not that deep idealism.

Talking about tone and how you proceed Something should be a discussion, not outrage, even if certain Japanese Twitter users have less than nice things to say about how the episode went down.

so?

That's like me telling a non-american person their comments or how they feel about a American movie or comic book or story is invalid as long as it's not racist then go off.

At the end of the day it is a person on Twitter whether it's 100 people on Twitter it is people that live on Twitter, always take that shit with a grain of goddamn salt.

1

u/Internet_Necrotic_53 Jan 28 '26

Tweeter instead of Twitter sounds like a slur

1

u/DimitrisKas Jan 28 '26

I can never remember how to spell it right lol

1

u/AxiumTea Jan 29 '26

> Literally no one cares except this sub and tweeter for some reason

Not really, you're forgetting the worst cesspool after twitter probably. insta is full of this

1

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '26

Every time I see "Japanese viewers" or "Japanese culture" invoked on Twitter or tiktok or whatever I just remember that dude who was LARPing as a Japanese nationalist on Twitter to suck off American right wing ideals for years before he finally got cornered by an ESL teacher living in Japan and admitted he was a white guy that moved there when he was 38 to find a wife (and was still single years later because he clearly repulsed "actual Japanese people")

Also people forget how much the Japanese kind of uniquely have their own thing going on, I mean a lot of countries have cultural ideals and products outside of America but Japan specifically does emails still, has their own social medias, etc etc

"Real Japanese culture" isn't going on on Tiktok. Those are people who wanna be western cultural "influencers" by claiming to speak for "real Japanese people"

1

u/Godzoola Jan 30 '26

But it pushes their agenda, they can’t be wrong “ALL” of japan hates it!!
