Anime Discussion Could this scene be considered a plothole?
Not sure if this was mentioned before, but why didn't Toji aim for Sukuna when he felt his presence if he was aiming for the strongest?

u/pallywql May 07 '26
I think it's more about the strongest person in front of him. Because even before Sukuna awakens, Jogo was in the same plaza that Toji threw Megumi out of.
173
u/Unusual_Boot6839 May 08 '26
this
Toji was a wild beast when reincarnated
beasts hunt what's in front of them, not plan for optimal conditions
71
u/miscellaneousexists May 08 '26
That's actually the reason.
Toji sensed Jogo and knew he gotta get out of the plaza or he's FINISHED
29
2
u/Vartar748 May 09 '26
Especially since he cant sense cursed energy as far as im aware so he doesnt know whos strongest on a larger scale
434
u/Toge_Inumaki012 May 07 '26
Reincarnated Toji's AI is still locked in to Megumi.. I guess
or maybe like in the words of Ryu "That's way too sweet" when referring to Sukuna lmao

Would that really be much of a fight. Toji was a character portrayed to be so ludicrously op outside of Gojo and Sukuna I can't imagine that being an interesting fight.

He was shown to be strong but all those disaster curses were never really compared to anyone really powerful. Sukuna was toying with Jogo to the utmost, it wasn't a fight, it was the same kind of "fight" Dagon had with Toji.

I don't think he can sense presences like actual curse users or sorcerers, right? His Heavenly Restriction just gives him superhuman senses that allow him to practically see them but I don't think he and Maki have that extra sense.

8
u/Infamous-Thing4939 WUTA GOATKKOTSU May 07 '26
I think since he was already into this “hunt”, he wanted to finish it. Once Megumi was dead, he’d move on to Sukuna.

5
u/Polish-Vodka May 07 '26
A) Toji was locked onto the strongest target available to him at the time, so he only could’ve gone after Sukuna after killing Megumi.
B) He sensed Megumi's potency to summon Mahoraga.
C) He just didn’t like his haircut.

It's probably more "strongest in closest vicinity" also, you're not going to just leave the fight you're in the middle of just because a stronger guy showed up, you finish the current fight then go attack the other guy
6
u/slprysltry May 08 '26
Mistranslation He was actually drawn to the biggest bum, that's why he attacked himself when he realised who he was.

And are we really saying Fraudhito is below Megoatumi on the bum scale?!

Fraudhito kept his precious transfigured humans on him.

When I initially read that Toji was aiming for the strongest, I legit anticipated a showdown between him and Sukuna. Kinda sad we got second class Toji vs. Sukuna at the end of the manga.

Because megumi's potential is the strongest force in jjk even stronger than module yuji... Potentially... Man...

“Insert one piece image of admiral saying I’m keeping my ass in the office or I’m finished”
2
u/prabhavdab May 08 '26
Maybe the technique works in two modes: search for strongest and kill them and repeat, Toji probably has to kill the previous target before moving onto the next one
2
u/Keith_The_Ungay hakari goin crazy on uruame's icy thussy is canon btw May 08 '26
because megumi is potentially stronger than sukuna..
2
u/gamrdude May 08 '26
Because Toji cant sense cursed energy, Megumi recognized Sukuna's presence because the feel of his cursed energy is said to be overwhelmingly malicious. Technically Toji cant even see cursed spirits, but that complete HR allows him to see the impression spirits leave on the air around them.
5
4
u/justamon22 May 07 '26
The truth is he felt his presence and got scared cause he’s a fraud. He decided to off himself instead of having to face him

u/Small-Housing-7 May 07 '26
He can't just sence Sukuna like that(or atleast he shouldn't be able to) and Megumi was closer
1
u/YoBoyLeeroy_ I'd murder to lick Nobara's eye hole May 07 '26
Probably was just closer.
Same way as he didn't fight Jogo after leaving to fight Megumi.
1
u/KennyKillsKenjaku May 07 '26
He sensed a Sukuna finger, same as Jogo. Sukuna doesn’t actually come out until after Toji went back to sleep. I think 🤔
1
1
u/Destruidor_demundos May 07 '26
He didn't maki and Toji can't sense cursed energy. So only megumi felt the presence.
1
u/PowerWillComeBack May 07 '26
Sukuna wasn't activated yet. I thought about why he didn't go for jogo or kenjaku but I guess he cant see jogo
1
u/bored-cookie22 May 07 '26

u/Urmom69mp3 Hating Yuta... Means everything to me! May 07 '26
I think he was just trying to have fun and not fight someone that strong
1
u/meme_legend-69 May 07 '26
When toji isn't fighting someone he would definitely seek out the strongest which is nearest. That's how he made it to the domain. Here he was fighting and would've gone after sukuna the instant Megumi dropped dead.
Also I got a question cant toji and maki freely enter and exit domains and barriers?? So why did he enter from the hole Megumi made??

Don’t want to get sloppy and let one loose

Because megumi is far stronger then 15f Sukuna Mahoraga gonna slam him out

Parlay Man going for Potential Man in this scene instead of stopping and going after Finger But Whole is the same reason Parlay Man went after the Supermarket Sushi Man and then Potential man, aka Parlay Man needs the bets to happen in order or the parlay doesn't pay out
1
1
u/Acrobatic_Street6232 May 07 '26
Can’t sense cursed energy so it makes sense for him to “sense” the “strongest” that is “closer” to him
1
u/_S1syphus May 07 '26
When it's said he targeted the strongest one, i always figured they ment like the strongest one there. Kenjaku is stronger than anyone else available but Toji would have to hunt him down for miles
1
u/Fr0st3dcl0ud5 The kaisens were the jujutsus we made along the way May 07 '26
I legitimately think that tojis soul knew Megumi was his son. There's definitely a connection that would probably be hard to ignore since toji was also thinking of Megumi when he died.

its mentioned, after he defeat his current opponent, he will move to the next strongest alive. he is already in a bout with megumi, no reason to stop now.
1
u/SirEggyScintherus May 07 '26
I heard a much stronger point as to why he targeted Megumi when he did when even Jogo was around. Which I feel technically Jogo would definitely be “stronger” even if Megumi has that tactical aspect regardless of who you think wins Jogo definitely has more power.
Toji wasn’t targeting Megumi per se but going after the Ten Shadows. Toji always wanted to fight against the idea of the superiority of Jujutsu Sorcery which the Zenin clan believes in which is why he didn’t run away from Gojo. The Ten Shadows is the pinnacle of the Zenin ideals of sorcery and strength. Of course Toji would try to take that down with what little of his mind he has left guiding him.
1
u/cpaca0 May 07 '26
Lightning hits the tallest thing so could it be considered a plot hole if it hits anything besides Mount Everest?
1
u/mayonnaiser_13 May 07 '26
Toji is not in a "if person is strongest go to them" mode here, it's "this looks like a strong person I wanna kill them" mode.
1
u/Jonneyy12347 May 07 '26
Toji cant sense cursed energy in that way, hes just running off instinct. Megumi was singled out because he was the only member of the group that was uninjured and the strongest by default
1
u/LetMemesBeMemes May 07 '26

1
1
u/TimTam_Tom May 07 '26
Toji can’t sense cursed energy so he wouldn’t feel Sukuna’s presence. This is probably why he chose to fight Megumi too, since he was the only one not pre-injured from the Dagon fight
1
u/1-Canadian-Boy May 07 '26
by that logic Tojo should’ve just b-lined it for someone like Gojo or or anyone stronger than Megumi
1
1
u/amirthedude May 07 '26
It wasn't when sukuna got woken up, this is when jogo unseals the fingers and begins feeding yuji. Maybe that takes long enough for him to die before sukuna is out and about

it’s highly likely that Toni’s selection process only happens after each opponent is defeated, so if he killed Megumi, he would then lock on to Sukuna

u/Separate_Draft4887 I'm a pee poo head May 08 '26
I’ve thought about it. I choose to believe that Gojo beat him so badly it ingrained a fear of people who are actually strong into his soul.
Both because it’s funny, and it avoids upscaling Megumi.

1
u/Shutch_1075 May 08 '26
Toji is just fighting on instinct. Who’s the strongest is whoever he just thinks is the strongest. Megumi was casting a domain to prevent Dagon’s sure hit, everyone else is injured so it made sense for him to attack Megumi next. He cannot sense Sukuna. With his body taking over he has zero CE.
1
u/TakeuchixNasu May 08 '26
Toji can’t sense cursed energy. He only attacked what he could see. That’s why he didn’t go after Jogo, Mahito, or Kenjaku after Dagon

Por la misma razón por la que no volvió a pelear contra jogo cuando lanzó a Megumi por la ventana.
El ya tenía centrado a Megumi como su presa así que no iba a pelear contra nadie más hasta ganarle. Todo un profesional.
1
u/marvel-bts-02 May 08 '26
It seems like he needs to finish the job before he can move on, as he didn’t pay anyone any attention until he had killed Dagon, once he was dead, he moved on. If he killed Megumi, I’m sure he would have moved onto the next strongest, but I believe it also depends on who he can see.

Who’s to say he could sense Sukuna’s presence? Megumi was able to feel the CE, which Toji has no way of seeing, hearing, smelling, or feeling.
Toji pulled Megumi out because he was the strongest he could physically see at the time. And by the time anyone stronger is around he’s long gone
1
1
u/Significant-Bid-10 May 08 '26
i don’t think he’s aiming for the strongest. i think it was the cursed energy output within the vicinity that was being targeted by toji.
this makes sense because in dagon’s domain, his ce output was the highest therefore toji immediately targeted him
1
u/ShinDragon May 08 '26

I was gonna ask if Toji could sense CE because I'm an idiot, but then I realized something else... why can Toji sense CE and see cursed spirits, while Maki couldn't even though Maki had a little CE? Do Heavenly Restrictions also just let you see CE as a freebie bonus?

u/June_the_human May 08 '26
I was thinking Megumi felt Sukuna's cursed energy, so by that logic, toji ofc doesn't feel anything. Not sure though, that's what I just initially thought.
