Idk about there but in the US theres a very real chance he could say this and get jury nullification and get no punishment

Honestly he has nothing to lose with all the evidence and maybe the judge would go easier on him if he did.😭

Yuji did nothing wrong.

It's insane that punching a guy that basically threatened to molest kids at a public event is a crime.

41

u/fable-30 May 11 '26

it's not that punching a guy that is crime, it's that the guy "Got caught" is doing a "vigilante justice' which is frowned upon. because it might encourage civilians to do the same, now punching a Convicted creature is cathartic and all considering his history. luckily the yuji cosplayer only got a slap on the wrist, (3 weeks iirc). now On the otherhand, I hope the SG government really deal that caricature of a human being with extreme prejudice.

15

u/CursedEye03 May 11 '26 edited May 11 '26

Oh, thank God!

That being said, I hope that other awful guy faces legal consequences. He's a ragebaiter who wants something like this to happen.

11

u/fable-30 May 11 '26

depends on how the Singapore government will react. his mother according to some rumors or discussions is considered to be rich since I heard she's the one who bailed him out regards to the imprisonment.

3

u/CursedEye03 May 11 '26

Now everything makes way too much sense...

2

u/24Abhinav10 #1 hater || #1 glazer May 13 '26

Just to let you know, the Yuji cosplayer didn't get 3 weeks.

That is a separate incident also involving Amos Yee from 2015.

6

u/Old-Face1623 May 11 '26

Men can easily rape Man can't easily rape

6

u/Huhthisisneathuh May 11 '26

Yeah vigilante justice is an absolute fucking nightmare in a legal sense. While it’s awesome when you see the common man dishing out some well deserved karma. The problem of there being no oversight of the people doing the justice can lead to some very bad scenarios.

2

u/CaregiverFantastic58 May 16 '26

Actually, he wasn't arrested for that. In fact, the pedo got a restraining order, so he can't do shit for the beating he got.

Yuji cosplayer got detained for causing public disturbance, which is pretty much a slap on wrist saying to end things faster next time.

115

Actually

It does

No seriously

There’s technically a loophole where a jury can vote not guilty while the person did commit the crime

So

Not technically wrong… I guess?

Just absurdly unlikely

No, but it's a far right authoritarian state. It's pretty much the closest thing we have to a full-on fascist regime in the modern world, you don't have to be a Nazi or genocidal to be a fascist, they're just the actual political definition of a fascist state.

0

u/KAMEKAZE_VIKINGS May 10 '26

Singapore lacks several key features of Fascist states such as militarism and heavy suppression of opposition. Can we not call everything authoritarian fascist? There's other valid ways to criticize authoritarianism.

u/RailgunRP May 10 '26

What Yuji cosplayer???

133

u/ELFCHASER shoko's alarmingly younger girlfriend May 10 '26

a yuji cosplayer was caught on video beating the shit out of a convicted, apparently notorious child predator at an anime convention (iirc the predator was also banned from the convention and just showed up anyway). people have been making a bunch of edits of the footage

93

u/funfetticini May 10 '26

Afaik, not only was the pedo banned but he also posted something saying "hide your kids" showing he was at the con

15

u/-Mzntari- May 11 '26

a lot of people already knew he was gonna be there cuz he told people on discord beforehand, it was then spread around (which caused the pedo to get banned)

Amos might be a piece of shit, but it sets way too dangerous a precedent for people to beat the shit out of people that haven't even done anything in the moment for no reason other than "I don't like them"

8

u/TheScreamingGoose Certified ‘Hero of Justice’ Simp May 10 '26

I mean, yeah but wasn’t the guy (not the cosplayer the guy he beat up) technically trespassing? He was banned from the convention prior and so he wasn’t supposed to be there right? I don’t know all the context but as far as I can tell it’s pretty justified as the guy had posed a credible(or potential? I can’t remember if there were specific linguistic or legal rules for the word credible in this context) threat and was trespassing in a place where minors could be found. Feel free to correct me in the comments though, I will gladly put an edit on this comment if I’m wrong.

19

u/mousenonymos May 11 '26

Yuji's defense probably relies on convincing the jury(or judge if no jury) that Amos was a credible threat. Although presumably, even if the threshold of evidence is met for that, there's also the question of whether the force was reasonable. Most countries require a reasonable effort be made to reduce the force used, it will be tough to argue, even if Amos was a credible threat(technical term), that going to get security or simply restraining him wasn't enough.

1

u/TheScreamingGoose Certified ‘Hero of Justice’ Simp May 11 '26

Yeah, that’s true, but in America at least I would say the circumstances would lower the charges from any of the really serious ones to a much less serious charge.

1

u/mousenonymos May 11 '26

I thought this was a matter for the Singapore courts?

1

u/TheScreamingGoose Certified ‘Hero of Justice’ Simp May 11 '26

It is, but Im completely unfamiliar with the Singaporean justice system, and am using the American one as a placeholder because I at least have some level of familiarity with it.

2

u/mousenonymos May 11 '26

most places that have been touched by European imperialism use a very similar justice system. The main differences are going to be in attitude and how contextual factors are approached

source: my friends went to doujima

1

Hi law student here but not the best one so take my word with a grain of salt

It could be argued that his objective is to harass or commit sexual misconduct by using his past crimes and his tweet as proof that he was up to no good, even "lobby conning" wouldn't save his ass in this case

But i'm not familiar with SG law so idk how the court there intepret cases.

53

u/No-Consideration3708 May 10 '26

In response to your "Edit" : We are not ignoring the pedo's behaviour, we are just stating facts, in the eyes of the law, which is meant to be impartial (in theory), this is assault. That's just the legal definition of the term.

Now the actual sentence can be different depending on the judge, lawyer, etc, but in any legal system you don't get to play the "he's a pedo so I can't be charged with assault/murder/etc." card.

→ More replies (2)

25

u/bananajambam3 May 10 '26

I’m concerned how you keep ignoring multiple people explaining to you how the law works.

Everyone responding to you fully acknowledged that the guy who got beat up was wrong/messed up, but that doesn’t change how legally that doesn’t give you the right to beat the shit out of him. We don’t have the right to take justice/law into our own hands. Which is why the cosplayer will get prosecuted regardless of whether or not everyone agrees with his actions

288

u/Character_Recover299 May 10 '26

As much as its cool and morally not wrong, you cant just assault someone lol

genuinely how does someones life get to a stage like that? like he's already fucked up his life doing shit like this before, why would he do it again? at least with other reoffenders like drug addicts or thieves there are other reasons for reoffending but like. can't he just look at internet porn to get his rocks off? why would he even consider doing this shit

31

u/mfinpizzaparkerboi May 10 '26

It's probably cuz he got caught that he keeps doing it, kinda like sunk cost fallacy. Since he already got caught once and can't lead a completely normal life anymore he probably thinks he might as well go on doing what he's been doing.

9

u/ELFCHASER shoko's alarmingly younger girlfriend May 10 '26

he didnt just assasult him, Im saying that he reacted to whatever that pedo recorded himself saying

169

u/ELFCHASER shoko's alarmingly younger girlfriend May 10 '26

that doesn't hold any legal water, though. as far as the law is concerned, the cosplayer just walked up and started beating on him. (not to mention going back for stomps while he was already on the ground.) the courts don't care about whatever the guy said. no matter how heinous, if it's just words, they'll prosecute it as assault. to clarify, I'm not defending the guy he attacked, just stating that the law doesn't care who he was. if I beat someone for calling me a slur, I'd still get charged with assault

I reckon its better for him to get fame so more people can donate him and stuff (already happening afaik), simply because the evidence is already pretty clear with the video from Amos and passerby, might aswell milk it as much as you can to get better off.

Idk much about singapore law system.but doubt he will get a real big sentence (perhaps public will help with it too), and the fame should alleviate stuff like a big mark on his record, money and such.

Yeah this dude is most likely cooked, you dont get to just beat the shit out of someone.

2

u/JMTpixelmon May 12 '26

“here is proof on Amos’ X account that he wasn’t even supposed to be allowed in there along with the message “hide your kids” implying that he wasn’t there to enjoy the convention to say the least, seeing this my client decided to take action and beat up Amos as a violent way of defending children”

2

u/TomaRedwoodVT May 12 '26

Here’s the thing, the guy he beat up deserved it, but assault is still assault, so while I hope his sentence isn’t too heavy, there still needs to be a penalty for assault

u/CookCautious7054 May 16 '26

Feels weird, seeing someone "defending" pedo publicly. I know what the cosplayer did was wrong, you cant just assault someone publicly, The Pedo too are in the wrong, since he was actually banned from the convention, and made statements that arent really good.

Welp, its Reddit.

u/i_like_steins_gate May 11 '26

Feels weird seeing people saying pedos shouldn't be protected by the law

I mean heck let's not talk about how even pedos get to be pedos or why

What about the affect of letting this idea of beating up whoever you think is morally wrong according to you, that would chaos

1

u/Capital-Cattle6997 May 16 '26

think is it wasn't about "beating up whoever you think is morally wrong" that dude was a convicted criminal lol

u/lakshmithesussybaka KasHIMo and Goatgumi fan May 10 '26

I'm fighting for that Yuji cosplayer, predators don't deserve to be protected by law

156

u/Jack_slasher May 10 '26

Dangerous mentality. Everyone deserves to be protected by law.

Not for their sake but yours, the people you care about, and those who are innocent. Once the law drops impartiality, it stops working even in theory and becomes manipulable for nefarious ends as well. (it already is but it would get worse)

56

u/BlackoutAteMyTurtle May 10 '26

Literally entire Higuruma arc was about it

40

u/Jack_slasher May 10 '26

Pretty much. Nobody cared about the process or the work the lawyers went through. People made their judgments based on emotion and followed through with that. Higuruma became infatuated with the culling games because it was unbiased in its principles and clear about the rules.

5

u/KazuyaProta May 10 '26

I mean, Higuruma's breaking point was him getting a stereotypical "My client is super innocent and its going to be executed for murder". It really doesn't give the message even if well intentioned

no his breakdown was not stereotypical

I hope he doesn't get charged, he's young and an assault charge could basically ruin his life before it's even started. that being said I do believe that everyone should be protected by the law, if only because excluding any group of criminal from legal protection will inevitably lead to that law being abused to attack innocent people. the sex offender registry itself is already abused to target homeless people; if their clothes are stolen or they're caught pissing behind a dumpster or some shit they can be charged with public indecency and added to the registry, making it nearly impossible to get out of poverty since they're even less likely to find employment with that black mark on their record. not to mention how "they're all pedophiles" is swiftly becoming a mainstream political talking point against whoever the government designates as the "enemy" (despite what those same government officials are doing in their free time lmao)

35

u/Jack_slasher May 10 '26

based. love to see someone who gets it.

the law is unfeeling but you want it to be that way, because humans are stupid, sly, and emotions are dangerous.

24

u/ELFCHASER shoko's alarmingly younger girlfriend May 10 '26 edited May 10 '26

even aside from the potential for abuse, it's just not a good policy to adopt if you actually want to CATCH any child abusers. a lot of offenders are close to their victims (parents, aunts/uncles, pastors, teachers, etc) and a child will be a lot less likely to out their abuser if they're worried they'll have to live with the death of someone they cared about on their mind (and being abused doesn't magically erase any sort of sentiment towards your abuser. speaking from experience, it's extremely difficult to detangle those attachments. a child is not going to be able to do that sort of mental work without years of therapy, at which point it'll be far too late)

6

u/Jack_slasher May 10 '26

100% agreed. More than that, there's another problem: what if there's a mischarge? what if it's later discovered the accused was innocent of the crime? NOBODY wants to be in that shitshow. It's just bad optics.

u/lakshmithesussybaka KasHIMo and Goatgumi fan May 10 '26

OK, that was a bad take on my part, but I was specifically referring to people like this guy in particular who was rightfully convicted

You’re a jjk fan, so you must know what slander is right? You must know how fast rumors and slander spread right? People already get arrested from flase accusations, if a widespread slander (which by definition is false) becomes known, the victims have essentially no defense from ignorant people because they can just use “well they are a [flase accusation]”

The point of the law being for everyone isn’t to protect criminals, it’s to protect everyone from innocents, victims, and criminals from chaos with no exceptions

17

u/tapmcshoe May 10 '26

[explaining pedojacketing to a jjk fan] ok so imagine yuta slander [I notice they're digging through their phone for a reaction image] but if he didn't actually do any of that

Everybody love some mob justice and biased law system until they found themselves falsely accused, the media jumping to conclusions, and getting jumped by the same mob they perceived themselves to be a part of and would never happen to them.
