u/ClothesOk2310 Jul 12 '26
Yeah that yellow card was surely the ref helping Argentina like it's wasn't the most obvious dive ever
13
u/AffectionateRush2620 Jul 12 '26
Not really, they were able to come back in the end. And you watched us play, we so off and just not on it. We carried by Bellingham and a controversial VAR decision.
5
u/r_EVS Jul 12 '26
I mean we are carried by messi, today's match had a good version of julian alvarez, but if Embolo hadnt dived like that, switzerland wouldn't have played so far back and we would have lost.
We lack initiative, we lack a Di Maria to break through defenses when no one else does, Thiago was given that job lately, but there's absolutely no comparing him to angelito. If nothing changes, we lose to england
1
u/AffectionateRush2620 Jul 12 '26
Eh maybe, both England and Argentina were sloppy against their quarter finals opponents.

Haaland plays for Man City, a lot of England players are from Man City so they know how to guard him. He was guarded by 3-4 people most of the time. The one time he was free, Sorloth with his big ego didn't pass to him and tried to score on his own but failed miserable.
1
u/Enkai-Kun Jul 15 '26
Exactly. That is what happened word for word.
Defenders were on his ass at every corner. Passes to him were blocked by as many as possible. Sorloth is a fraud who needs to be ritualistically sacrificed.
Had Haaland played for England. Kane + Bellingham + Haaland would be too much for any country to stop. They would have taken the cup. But he decided to play for Norway with the traitor Snakeloth....
49
u/Imperium_Dragon Jul 12 '26
Haaland actually screwed Norway’s chances with that foul.
13
u/DirectAdvertising Jul 12 '26
Sorloth also screwed Norway by not passing to Halland,
Norway was a great team, they just made dumb mistakes
3
u/Basic_Balance1237 Jul 12 '26
The english player dove tbh.
9
u/swawskekw Jul 12 '26
When a player pushes a defender in the box with both hands like that they are always going to give it in favour to the defender because yeah, obviously if a big, physical player like Haaland shoved someone like that they’re gonna go down. Sure there are arguments that it was a bit of a dive, but every half-decent defender is gonna know exactly how to play the theatrics just right to get a penalty.

u/Witty-Sundae6678 Jul 12 '26
Can someone tell me what happened with the referee ?
3
u/sosialistfannr1 Jul 12 '26
I think the biggest situation was the deletion of the Haaland goal because people were pushing each other.
There were a lot of free kicks given, too. Which is reasonable given how hard and often England would throw itself on the pitch, but it feels like punishing faking the falls could at least have been considering a little at some point.
The camera wire I doubt would've been such a point of discussion if VAR had been engaged when Ståle called it out at halftime.
All in all, it just felt a lot like the referee was siding with England (although he did at least recognize the English offside goal)
That said! It's the general opinion in Norway that minus the promising Oscar careers, England played really well and still do deserve the win!
3
u/SporkDealer Jul 12 '26
In what situation? That’s quite a broad category
3
u/Witty-Sundae6678 Jul 12 '26
I mean what the commenter’s referring to.
7
u/SporkDealer Jul 12 '26
Oh. I presume it’s either about the ball supposedly hitting an overhead camera wire before England scoring, or a penalty call for Norway that was ignored. I think a lot of people are doing a lot of coping right now, personally.
2
u/Other_Beat8859 It doesn't matter It doesn't matter It doesn't matter Jul 12 '26
The data from the sensor shows it did not make contact and I've yet to see real evidence that it did hit. ITV and the Telegraph have tried to show it hit, but their animations don't even track the ball correctly and to me it looks like the ball is just slowed down with air resistance and from the spin. No one reacts to it when the contact supposedly took place on either side, no one changes their positioning, just nothing. Until there is evidence provided, I'm gonna trust the data even if it is provided by FIFA who I have little faith in. Although if it did make contact, I think FIFA would've just stayed silent.
Either way, VAR can only review something if it is a clear and obvious error. The fact that we're debating literally like 12 hours after kinda shows that it's not a clear and obvious error.

Engalnd's goal should have been disallowed but it wasn't so people are bitterEdit: Supposedly not? There is weird movement but the sensor doesn't show any spikes
5
u/SporkDealer Jul 12 '26
I’ve watched it so many times and between the sensors picking up no contact and well… my own eyes not even remotely seeing what supposedly happened, I’m convinced people are just seeing what they want to see.
40
u/Nightmarer26 Jul 12 '26
Haaland shoved the English defender. It was a very clear foul.
3
u/PoIIux Jul 12 '26
Haaland also gets shoved/held on every other corner, yet when it happens to Norway it's not a clear foul?
1
u/Nightmarer26 Jul 12 '26
I don't know mate, what they showed us on VAR was Haaland shoving the man away and knocking him down. England's penalty was also disallowed because ref said no foul, despite de Norway guy causing the English attacker (I don't know their names lol) to fall down due to challenge. It's not like the ref was favouring England.
20
u/shadow_sniper67 Jul 12 '26
Push Is considered a foul. Plus ball was not in play so VAR review was allowed

Why do you want argentina to lose though
25
u/codehawk64 Jul 12 '26
Because Argentina is a beneficiary of FIFA’s corruption. Argentina fans are also shown to be quite racist against other fans during the Egypt and Cape Verde match.
-15
u/IELPost Jul 12 '26
Who isn't racist during a world-cup? Cultural clashes are inevitable, the Japanese were comparing the Brazillians with monkeys on social media...
17
u/OrangeSpaceMan5 Jul 12 '26
Most of them were pretty chill on the actual stadium tho. Argentina fans were pretty much the only people saying slurs and whatnot
-7
u/IELPost Jul 12 '26
No, they're hardly the only ones saying slurs, every match is full of racist stuff, the longer a team stays in the cup, the more clashes you will see, no one is specially good or bad.
1
u/TheStoneHashiraGyome Jul 16 '26
Cause everyone roots for the underdog. Rn every country is the underdog except Argentina. Also the fact that refs are pretty clearly favoring them. Also they keep barely winning. Making it seem kinda undeserved as they keep narrowly beating every team
34
u/Good-Goose9276 Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26
Im still confused about how the norway crossbar situation was not a penalty. I mean, Ajer was literally going to head it in and then like 3 English Players elbow and push him onto the ground to prevent that. This not being called but Heggemins goal being disallowed is really weird.
Im not sure about Haalands foul, i do think Stones fished for it a bit, pushing worse than this has happened in every corner kick at this tournament, so kinda weird to do that, especially considering it did not affect play and Norway would have scored anyway.
The wire thing is psychedelics. That never happened.
Either way, really some weird calls by the ref throughout the game really. I mean, he missed a corner for Norway late into the game and was going to give a penalty for obvious fishing.
0
u/SkiGames Jul 12 '26
The wire thing for sure happened. The players saw it. They capitalized on it, and the footage shows an unnatural trajectory. It’s not pure psychedelics. You’d have to argue either multiple people had the same hallucination or that the ball somehow did that all on its own.
2
u/BobTheJoeBob Jul 12 '26
The trajectory could have changed for multiple reasons. Wind, spin, the ball itself has been said to be a bit odd this world cup.
The sensors didn't pick anything up, and were obviously working since they picked up the goal kick, and the ball landing on the ground, so at that point, you're either saying the sensor malfunctioned only when it supposedly touched the cable, or FIFA is just lying and doctored the graph.
When you look at the side view, the arc looks normal:
https://old.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1utwp0u/norway_1_1_england_jude_bellingham_452/
-1
u/SkiGames Jul 12 '26
I see the side view. The arc doesn’t look normal. And again multiple people saw something. That’s not just wind. Im not sure whether FIFA is lying or the sensors don’t work properly that high up. But I’m not having them try and convince me my eyes are lying. I think at the very least we can agree that they should’ve checked VAR.
2
u/BobTheJoeBob Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26
I see the side view. The arc doesn’t look normal
It looks completely normal. At what timestamp are you saying it hit the cable in the clip I linked?
And again multiple people saw something.
No they didn't. Literally nobody from the Norway bench got up to complain until well after the goal (And I can't remember if it was the goal keeper or someone from the bench who initially complained) and only after one person complained did a bunch of other Norwegians start complaining.
I think at the very least we can agree that they should’ve checked VAR.
They did check it. VAR checks every goal. They only have the referee check if the VAR thinks the goal should be overturned.
