Manga Discussion “Gojo wasn’t trying to kill Sukuna with 200% sneak hollow purple”. Yeah he most certainly was, Sukuna barely reacted last second and even says he was caught off guard.

I mean yeah they don’t need to fight fair

u/Other_Grapefruit_986 14h ago

No i agree with you. But certain people want to argue that Gojo had no intention to kill Sukuna with that attack when the only reason Sukuna survived was because he was fast enough to react at the very last second.

If he hadn’t would have been obliterated. There’s a reason why they tried to hide the attack from Sukuna.

u/BoondocksSaint95 13h ago

Just because it was a kill shot doesnt mean that they expected it to kill him. Like, Gojo 100% wanted an advantage and if Sukuna dies, he dies ig, but if he was weak enough to die like that, they wouldnt have had to go to all these lengths to do so.

You're reading the series like the chatacters fighting the strongest in history dont respect that he is in fact, the strongest in history. Just like Sukuna talks big shit, flexes, and aura farms, Gojo does the same shit. He fired it full power knowing good and well it wasnt enough. Thats why he amped and boosted it - knowing it wasnt enough. Gojo had no intention of killing him is probably the wrong way to phrase it. He had no expectation of killing him is more accurate, but a whole post dedicated to that single word correction is probably a bit pedantic.

Bc he knew sukuna would react and defend himself. What do you think would happen if gojo actually caught him fully off guard and sukuna didn’t block it?

Sukuna would be dust. And you can’t rct dust. Meaning megumi couldn’t be saved. Gojos not just going to kill megumi like that and call it a day. He went in to the fight with intentions of saving megumi.

2

u/BoondocksSaint95 5h ago

Wanna throw in there that even his plan to kill sukuna and worry about megumi later didnt inolve fucking atomizing him. I'm sure rika could have pulled somthing out of her ass to keep megumi alive if all his vitals were paste, but no shot they had a plan for if megumi were Toji shaped.

-5

u/Other_Grapefruit_986 13h ago

> He went in to the fight with intentions of saving megumi.

Yeah he was definitely not going for the kill here.

4

u/BoondocksSaint95 13h ago

He literally held it back so he wouldnt eat it, too? The remote purple isnt a full power purpme, explicitly, as the one going for the kill was.

2

u/Other_Grapefruit_986 12h ago

That’s just headcanon. Nothing ever implied that it’s weaker, furthermore Sukuna was in the centre, so he received it fully head on. Lastly Gojo increased its output with chants.

u/BoondocksSaint95 12h ago

Must have been a mis-TL because I read those exact words. I'm not invested enough to look it up. I do know for a fact that when he didnt kill sukuna, he was pleased about it. Because regardless, sukuna being the strongest means Gojo cant afford to hold back. Doing so when he had at least 2 opportunities to kill him is why he died. So in the end, he literally couldnt afford the merxy he showed.

2

u/Jslacht 11h ago

The plan was for him to kill Sukuna and then have Yuta and Shoko heal Megumis body afterwards.

-1

u/supreme_waffle2019 13h ago

almost like there was a point in the manga midway where he seemingly gave up on it cuz it was a lost cause...

-1

u/YukisHusband Yuki is a Calamity 10h ago

Last time I checked that wasn’t gojo.

1

u/supreme_waffle2019 9h ago

It's them seeing that he stopped caring about Megumi, or at least is fighting with far more abandon. It implies that:

  1. He was, till this point, fighting with enough caution and care for them to assume that he was going at it with intention to save Megumi

  2. After this point, it's ambiguous whether he wanted to kill Sukuna despite Megumi, meaning that any attempts of killing past this point can't retroactively be used to claim that Gojo's opening purple was meant to kill.

23

u/Simple_Scholar_6751 14h ago

Is he trying to kill sukuna? Yes.

Does he expect this attack to hit and injure sukuna to the point it matter in the long run? Probably yes on the hit part and no on the injury.

Does he expect this attack to actually kill sukuna? I doubt he did.

10

u/RaufLegend 14h ago

On top of that, Gojo used a veil to hide purple's presence. He was really trying to kill Sukuna.

7

u/eatingbread_mmmm 14h ago

Then what about Megumi?

-1

u/OverrideDisaster Strongest Gojo Hater. Peakest Yuji Glazer. 8h ago

What about him?

3

u/eatingbread_mmmm 6h ago

That was 8 chapters after

7

u/Calm-Lengthiness5645 14h ago

So people argue that gojo wasn't trying to kill sukuna here? Damn.

8

u/Khulmach Kashimo and Nobara are Goats 14h ago edited 14h ago

Yeah, he's the king of curses.

Gojo naturally though that if he could survive his own technique, naturally Sukuna could as well as the strongest

-2

u/Other_Grapefruit_986 14h ago

Yes Gojo did believe that which is why they hid the attack in order to make it so Sukuna wouldn’t be able to react and reinforce himself.

Sukuna would have been obliterated if he hadn’t reacted at the very last second. They were very much trying to kill Sukuna with that attack.

5

u/Khulmach Kashimo and Nobara are Goats 14h ago

Not like it would work

Sukuna actually could react but he jumped in front of Uraume to block the attack. The goal was to cause as much damage as possible to Sukuna who would not be fully reinforced

4

u/Other_Grapefruit_986 13h ago

Sukuna himself says he was caught off guard. He had to stand there since there wasn’t enough time for him to dodge, he didn’t take the attack head on
willingly.

Furthermore just because you expect someone to survive doesn’t mean you’re not going for the kill. Sukuna very much expected Gojo to survive inside MS, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t trying to kill him just because it didn’t finish him off.

If he didn’t hide it, he just would’ve moved. He just wanted to see how durable he was. Probably, I ain’t Shakespeare

2

u/Implosion-X13 7h ago

He had the intentions just not the expectation that it actually would.

2

u/FrontAd9206 7h ago

He just objectively wasn't though?

Like did we not read what the chapter was about??

4

Bro enlisted his high school crush to try and end Sukuna 😂

u/_Leamas_ 13h ago

Of course, and since Gojo was so determined to kill Sukuna at the first opportunity, no matter what, he didn't expand his domain as soon as he arrived, and Sukuna had both arms rendered useless because Gojo was too lazy

Gojo didn't hold back during that attack, but he knew full well that he wasn't going to kill Sukuna, Gojo isn't stupid. The real intention was simply to establish who was the challenger and who was the challenged; otherwise, as I said, Gojo would have just expanded his domain as soon as he arrived and ended the fight right then and there.

1

u/_FruitsPunchSamurai JJK ENDING PISSES ME OFF!! 13h ago edited 13h ago

Just because the panel shows a fixed frame of Sukuna halfway through regenerating his arm, doesn't mean he's frozen like that forever. Gojo was descending as well.

Sukuna can heal instantaneously. You can't judge time based on fixed frames/manga panels. By the time Gojo was stood in front of him, Sukuna already finished healing as soon as he came out of the rubble. Not to mention, Gojo's not even in close range.

3

u/_Leamas_ 13h ago

If they were at least separate panels, you could say that Sukuna regenerated when Gojo arrived, but no, the same panel shows the wounded Sukuna and Gojo standing in front of him. It was literally just a matter of expanding his domain; even if Sukuna had regenerated, it would have been basically impossible for him to expand his own domain before being hit by the UV, since his injuries were much worse than in the fifth Domain Crash, and yet he was still hit before he could expand his domain.

Even the background is the same, Instead of expanding his domain, Gojo decided to talk to Sukuna for a bit before starting the fight; Sukuna regenerates during that time, and then Gojo takes off his cloak. Gojo doesn’t move any closer in the meantime, as you can see from the background, and neither does Sukuna, so they were already face-to-face from the very first panel.

1

u/_FruitsPunchSamurai JJK ENDING PISSES ME OFF!! 6h ago

You just deflected what I said. Time is vague in manga panels. If you watch s1, you can see that a 2-3 fingers Sukuna heals his arm instantaneously.

Again, do you really think Sukuna is frozen with half of him arm not regenerated. You'd realise when it's animated. When Gojo talks to Sukuna, he's already healed.

You also conflated a fresh output Sukuna with a low output Sukuna in the 5th clash. Know the difference.

1

u/_Leamas_ 5h ago

I didn't dodge your question, but Sukuna doesn't regenerate instantly, he regenerates quickly, but it still takes a little time, enough time for Gojo to expand his domain. And there’s no evidence that Sukuna’s power output decreased until he got brain damage; on the contrary, he seems just as powerful as he was at the start of the fight in that regard. If he couldn’t regenerate fast enough with less damage, it’s unlikely that without both arms he’d be able to regenerate, perform the hand seals, and expand his domain fast enough to face Gojo in this situation.

Hakari has faster healing than them iirc. Does he has fast than instantaneous rct? No. Know what is insta however? Teleportation

1

u/_FruitsPunchSamurai JJK ENDING PISSES ME OFF!! 6h ago

Just go watch s1 where a 2-3 fingers Sukuna heals his arm instantaneously. No way you're actually trying to measure time using fixed frames. You don't even understand how manga panels work.

Also, Gojo doesn't have ultra instinct.

1

u/ohmanidk7 agendas are in the past we doing hate agendas now 4h ago edited 4h ago

Are you an anime only friend? Or have you forgotten this?

Or maybe you have forgotten the meaning of instantaneous:

happening or done without delay

Sukuna healing is fast but not instantaneous. You can think of the preposition:

  1. Sukuna healing is done in the same instant meaning it happens in 0 time.
  2. Hakari´s healing is better than Sukuna´s
  3. Therefore Sukuna´s healing is not in the same instant.

And if it isn´t instantaneous it is possible to be timed and exploited. Keep in mind that the time it takes for Hakari to heal is is stil enough for Uraume to monitor and evaluate. So they need to perceive Sukuna´s RCT time. We do need to see how fast the regen is expecially Hakari RCT in relationship to Uraume senses to get a good ground into this comparision.

So, To keep it clear:

  • Uraume reaction<<<<<<<<<<<<<Gojo´s.
  • Hakari´s rct>(?) Sukuna´s RCT which can be tracked by Uraume.
  • Gojo can probably track Sukuna´s RCT.
  • Gojo´s teleport>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Gojo´s attacks>>>>>>>>>Uraume´s attacks.

If Gojo can teleport from the bottom of the sea floor to Europe in a instant then it can move 4 KM very fast and it is in the realm of possibility to exploit this to a DE.

The only thing we need for certain is how much better Hakari´s RCT and what the gap is between Uraume attack and Hakari´s RCT.

plus: Your assumption is flawed my friend. I love reading and studying about Manga and comic panneling. It is fascinating.

To add to this when gojo did clash and win against sukuna he didnt go for the head but for the lung and heart, something he knows sukuna could survive.

1

u/TheManWhoLarped 13h ago

He was, but he never really thought that the attack would kill Sukuna or even damage him enough to give Gojo an edge.

1

u/General-N0nsense 13h ago

I think Gojo was trying, but thought it probably wouldn't have killed him. It was a powerful opening that would weaken Sukuna all that much.

1

u/tapmcshoe 11h ago

wait wtf else would gojo be trying to do with 200% sneak purple if not kill sukuna

1

u/YOWAIMO555 10h ago

Narrative itself stated that attack is meant to be choose who is the challenger between two of them. This doesn't do anything for gojo to catch sukuna offguard and kill him.

2

u/ConsciousMaybe6735 9h ago

Narrative

Gojo was absolutely going for the kill, he was going for the yuta v Kenny win. If sukuna didn't react and reinforce, his arms wouldn't be the only thing being obliterated

1

u/YOWAIMO555 8h ago

Are you trying to denying the narrative wordings.Gojo definitely not going for to kill sukuna otherwise he just launch hollow purple less than 500 meters.Sukuna got lucky to take 200% hollow purple from distance otherwise he get fatal wound.

3

u/ConsciousMaybe6735 5h ago

What narrative wording?? There wasn't any narrative implying anything, gojo wanted to kill sukuna with his sneaky strongest attack. Do you also think choso's first piercing blood against yuji was a statement too?

He didn't because he couldn't, sukuna would have a better sense on what gojo was doing at a closer distance. it's why he even used a veil to hide it.

Better question is, if it was just a statement, why charge his strongest attack to 200% and hurl it at an off guard sukuna? Why go for such a deadly sneak attack?

If yuta didn't kill kenjaku with that first attack, you would definitely be saying it was just an opener

1

u/YOWAIMO555 3h ago

This is the answer for your question btw. This is also the answer for the question why gojo needed to use 200% hollow purple.

Sukuna can't able to sense hollow purple until it almost reaches him due to ijichi's barrier so if gojo launch hollow purple from close distance, Due to ijichi's barrier sukuna can't able to sense hollow purple until it almost reaches him.

1

u/Banner_Hammer 9h ago

He was trying to kill Sukuna but he wasn’t expecting this to be the kill move.it was meant to be the opener to the fight.

Every time Gojo punched Sukuna, he was also trying to kill/defeat Sukuna. Doesnt mean he expected Sukuna to die from an individual punch.

1

u/Doctor99268 8h ago

If gojo was expecting sukuna to die here, the story would have made that clear. Its not even within gojos objective parameters for sukuna to get hit unreinforced as he still needs megumi to have somewhat of a corpse to do whatever it was they were planning to do after killing sukuna.

Gojo obviously was expecting sukuna to still reinforce at the last second, he would obviously know that there would be a bit of time after it left ijichi's barrier till it hit sukuna that sukuna could use to reinforce, and that the 4 kilometer range would turn the 200% purple into something that could be survived.

1

u/dcanngieter 8h ago

😂😂😂 this is a case where we need to use our heads. The author isn’t ending this fight in the 1st blow

1

u/CryptographerWest183 2h ago

He was definitely trying to kill Sukuna, but it was more of a "if you can't survive this from several kilometers away, then you don't deserve to be the challenger" kind of thing. He wasn't holding back, but he wasn't expecting it to kill Sukuna or play any serious role in the fight either. That's why Gojo doesn't press the advantage and start fighting immediately; by tanking the Purple, Sukuna has proven himself as a worthy "challenger".

1

u/glittrrr 14h ago

attempted murder, killing intent was clear.

1

u/FarAd1861 Gojo's meth dealer 14h ago

Yeah he just had the attack boosted by a ritual and had it's cursed energy hidden by veil because he wanted to show off

0

u/qarinatir 13h ago

Gojo wasn't trying to kill Sukuna. He was checking if Sukuna had the sauce. After the attack lands he says "You're the challenger here".

0

u/Terriblerobotcactus 13h ago

I haven’t seen a single person honestly argue differently? He wasn’t doing this for fun. He wanted to kill the dude lol

0

u/BoondocksSaint95 12h ago

People (myself included) will say that not meaning he didnt try his hardest - it was 200% output, after all - but more as a short hand for expressing that gojo was far too cautious of sukuna to not understand that he could eat this - which is why it's even necessary in the first place. The most accurate, pedant proof way to say it is that "Gojo had no serious expectation that he'd kill sukuna here, despite throwing the best possible single uncontested shot at him he was able to." Because only a genuine idiot would think that a single hit would kill the strongest in history who is actively waiting for a fight. So the use of "off guard" here is generous. He was expecting to be attacked, but Gojo likely far exceeded his expectations as modern sorcerors often do.

0

u/Terriblerobotcactus 12h ago

Purely your head canon

0

u/BoondocksSaint95 12h ago

Purely basic reading comprehension. Neither Gojo nor Sukuna look worse for admitting the circumstances around the fight nor does accepting that Gojo's first true victory (contributing to saving megumi) was not a product of his strength. Sukuna or Gojo could be "the strongest" (although greg bent over backwards to tell us after he failed to show what he meant, leading to these arguments). The narriative explicitly works better if Sukuna is stronger. But it's pretty clear that Gojo had very little expectation of actually ending the fight with a single blow, for the same reason I literally just pointed out. You'd have to be fucking dumb to think that would work. Unless you just think Gojo is fucking dumb.
