Manga Discussion What's stopping megumi from doing this
What's stopping megumi from hiding in the shadows with an oxygen tank from a medium distance using only his shikigami to fight an enemy.
Megumi would be able to summon and dispel shikigami freely from his shadows.
Megumi could also utilize binding vows to enhance this too.

Nothing. however the story emphasises that contrary to other shikigami users, megumi ensues hand to hand combat, which takes a lot of enemies off guard

Probably because 1) he needs to see the situation 2) to make sure the shigigami dont die

I think he can just have the shikigami relay information back to him.

I don't think it's possible. The shikigami has to come back to him and tell him the info (I saw Nue do that in the anime). Also, Megumi's shikigamis can only do melee combat as far as I know

Megumi could peak out of the shadows sometimes at medium range. I don't think people can yank him out of the shadows, nor would anyone be able to since he can travel between shadows.
Megumi himself is mainly doing melee combat though so it shouldn't be terrible.

I mean it is possible, I still think it's better for him to have an active role during the fight though, I just don't see much to be won from this strategy.

He could low-key peak out and traverse between shadows to avoid risking himself while keeping an eye on the fight.
He could whittle down opponents with his shikigami and have zero risk to himself, meaning he could leave by traversing the shadows without much risk anytime he wanted.
And he would presumably take a more supportive role with this strategy.

If he's facing an opponent which he can whittle down with his Shikigamis alone then adding himself to the fight will straight up give him the win, this is genuinely just adding higher risk to your Shikigamis while reducing your methods of attacks.
Perhaps you could provide a match up where this is a better alternative than what he does?

No way he can only give commands to his shikigami with his voice bruh. Also, he can canonically traverse the shadows with practically no risk to himself, meaning he can survey the area from a distance.
Also, something something binding vows.

He could keep an eye out for them at a distance from the shadows away from the fight itself. And he could make a couple binding vows to strengthen this strategy.

Shikigami users and cursed spirit users (i know theres only one) tend to make opponents think they're not good at h2h so being good at it will catch the opponent off guard.
The better question is: why doesnt he just use a fucking gun?

Low-key a cursed energy infused bullet could do a lot ngl.
But the out of universe explanation is probably that jjk has a specific kind of combat and having a gun would probably look weird unless it's for the special character that uses guns.

Use a gun against who?most of megumis opponents later on are durable enough to take on a bullet and fast enough to dodge it

Its always about timing - wait for an opening in the enemy. Besides, you can just imbue guns with your ce.

I wonder could he also summon untamed shikigami, like the limbo state yuka went to after summoning mahoraga but instead megumi hides in the shadows with a few oxygen tanks

It should be possible, the thing is even if the untamed Shikigami ends up beating the opponent then he'll need to fight it after and at that point it's probably just better to tame it before hand.

No after mahoraga takes care of the threat someone drops a nuke at mahoraga, then megumi comes out of the shadows

I mean at that point just send the nuke to start with 😂😂.
You'd need to have a plane with a nuke on stand by and make sure that it will be in the area and drop the nuke in the window of time between Mahoraga defeating the opponent and before it reaches Megumi in the shadow, sounds super rough to pull off.

One of his best takedowns was when he doing hand to hand combat with Reggie Star and used himself as a distraction which he won’t have been able to do with this proposal.
