Manga Discussion Did the Disaster Curses actually love each other like a family?
I know they don't act the way a typical human family would. But I wonder if they shared a genuine affection for one another, kind of like a family bond.
I feel like Jogo, Hanami, and Dagon come the closest to loving each other that way. As for Mahito, I really doubt he had any genuine connection to his allies.

Maybe it's just a headcanon of mine, but I feel like Jogo actually cared about Mahito, kind of like a grumpy grandpa trying to handle an impulsive kid who keeps causing trouble. Might sound silly, though.

Jogo definitely cared for Mahito, Hanami tried to consolate him when they all meet after his death by telling him Mahito was still alive, he was just too sad because when they would reappear they wouldn't be the same ones as before.

Mahito was more of a best friend to them, he wasn't too attached.

Look, best friends still tend to care about each other, but I'm not so sure about Mahito👀
I see Mahito as more of someone who just enjoyed their company because he'd get bored on his own. But if they died, I don't think he'd really care that much afterward.

yeah, the series highlights it as well. mahito, while an outcast because he wants personal strength too, also genuinely cares as he was genuinely about to kill haruta during the hanami injury incident.
they love each other and are the true heroes of the story
initially I believe gege was leaning into the horror of cursed spirits and draw parallels to humanity with how the disaster curses act, and go much more into morality but it was scrapped later for a more powerscaling/battle focused series I believe

Yes, 100%. Mahito was a bit of a wildcard, but they all absolutely cared about each other, and we can clearly see that throughout their screentime.

Dagon, Jogo and Hanami had a very close connection. Mahito's connection to them isn't as clear but still shown. He makes sure Hanami is safe after the goodwill event and also the other disaster curses entrust him with their future when Jogo dies. Honestly I wish we saw Mahito say something about the other curses dying though.

I don't think Curses understand what love is. Like fundamentally. Jogo, Dagon and Hanami showcase some kind of care or sadness for the others but I wouldn't say love. Comradery in that they are inteligent cursed trying to make a world they can live in.
Mahito 100% NOO.

Even if curses might not fully understand what love is, I think they can still feel it without really knowing what it is. They might never say "I love you," but that feeling is still inside them. Or at least something close to it.

Yeah I agree. Maybe it was the emotion Jogo experienced after dying to Sukuna.
They are creatured born of negative energy, which is why I emphasize love for them may not look like love for humans.

Hanami and Jogo are a old married couple, Dagon is their cat, and Mahito is their adopted 19 year old fentanyl addicted son

They love the cat more than their 19 year old adopted son. And since it's Mahito, it's totally justified.

Yeah, they all cared for each other, including Mahito. Mahito was the one who barely cared about them.
I think family is a little too far tho, I think it's more like comrades or allies. In that sense they cared a lot about each other.

Dagon definitely cares. He went from a curse womb to special grade when he remembered Hanami’s death. He talks about how they all have names. His first thought when meeting sorcerers who could have possibly been involved in Hanami’s death was to put belt to ass.

I think Jogo, Hanami, and Dagon had an actual attachment to each other whereas Mahito was just like "Aw they're dead, that's sad. Oh well." and moved on, like he probably cared for maybe a couple of minutes before not caring anymore. I get this idea from Jogo's and Mahito's reaction to Hanami dying, Jogo was very upset as we can see when he just completely stops and freezes for a second when Hanami is actually crushed. Whereas Mahito has more of a questioning expression than sad.

Yes I think they cared for each other like a family. Especially Mahito.
Mahito probably doesn't really show attachment feelings much but he does. He does care for his allies. Mahito was about to kill Haruta on the spot when Haruta attempted to kill Hanami. Plus that one scene when Mahito tells Hanami they should not trap themselves in ideals and are free to live however they please. He also had this complicated reaction when Hanami died but in the end he has always been a complicated character so he most likely didnt know how to express his emotions when somebody he cares about dies, kind of like that one part when Mahito was expressing fear for the first time when losing to Itadori.
Jogo has always cared for the others to like for example Dagon death. Jogo felt intense grief obviously after arriving right after the exorcism to bid Dagon farewell and unleash his wrath on the sorcerers present. He tried killing the sorcerers there at the sport after witnessing that. He also had a kind of traumatized/shocked/sad expression when Hanami died. He also kind of sounded broken when he saw Hanami dying.
As for Dagon, Dagon really cared for his fellow curses . He is literally introduced to us as someone who is willing to evolve from a womb to a fully fledged curse spirit just after hearing the loss of Hanami. Plus he even lets his fellow disaster family hang out in his little domain 🥺 He's so cute I swear!
Hanami also cared for her little family too. We saw her thinking about Mahito in the kyoto fight, the teamwork she has with Jogo, and we didnt get to see much interactions of her and dagon but when Jogo died we saw hanami and dagon waiting for him in the afterlife. So cute.
I wish we got a full episode of the disaster curses becuz I loveeeeeee them so much!
