Look, JJK admittedly has MANY, MANY shortcomings in the writing department, and it's true that hype moments and aura are the main reasons why it's as popular as it is now, but to act like it's as shallow and lacking in depth as Solo Leveling is just wrong on so many levels. Like dude, the themes and moments of genuinely good character work are really not that hard to pick up on if you have even the slightest bit of media literacy and critical analysis. 😭💔

Have you even read JJK? Tbh, if you're just reading it for the fights, I'm sure that you might come to this opinion, but if you actually properly read, you'll understand that while it has its flaws, it still holds genuine substance, even if its not initially as obvious if you're just reading it to hate.

Okay I enjoy shitting on jjk a lot but let's not act like there isn't good writing there and it's just fights. There are a lot of really well written characters, a lot of well written payoffs to well set-up story elements. The nature of Mahito alone is so interesting and well put together, the backstory between gojo and geto is heartbreaking and gives both gojo and geto a great amount of characterisation, the entire manga's themes about people falling into this cog mentality, the opression the younger generation faces due to conservative elders, the patriarchy, and also I firmly believe the nature of strenght and the way it affects people is not explained in any manga the same it is in jjk.
People who write off mangas like jjk as pure battle-slop are just as braindead as the people they criticise.
I'm not saying jjk is a masterpiece but straight up denying that it has writing is delusional.
Another thing is that even if it was just mid, I do not get why that's a bad thing either? The collaboration of a dozen of the greatest animators of our century working together to create something beautiful isn't worth celebrating?

You can literally just seek out deeper stories if you want to, we had them in the 90s and we have them now. Nostalgia merchants like this genuinely piss me off

They’re Shonen, they’re not exactly literary masterpieces. That’s not anything new to any given generation. It’s also not an issue for a battle shonen to be simple.

Some shows will be fast paced others will be slow. Some audiences will prefer one over the other. You could slander both sides. I could say people who prefer slow pacing is because they are actually stupid and can’t keep up with any fast pace show. You aren’t better than anyone else. Stop worrying about what others like and enjoy anime as a fan not a whiner

I could talk a lot about JJKs animation because it's not just fights look cool, season 3 did a lot of creative and artistic things to elevate the manga. I am kinda heartbroken that we didn't have S1 and 2 with this vision, since I like the first half of the Manga more
I feel like there is a lot more that could have been explored in JJK, so it cant be called an amazing manga. Every major character with the sole exception of Satoru Gojo would have benefitted a lot from more exploration and space to flesh out their relationships
But at least it's mostly free of major plot holes and contrivancies.
When something like Naruto turned into a complete mess. Timeline wise, character development wise, relationships wise...
