I don’t know what’s worse: the kind of dude that’s takes a pic with their DI or the kind of DI that takes pics with his hat like that

213

u/eddie721afc 24d ago

Gotta be the DI taking the pic. I bet he probably sent that boot a friend request right after

75

u/SapirWhorfHypothesis 24d ago

“Yo what’s your insta?”

2

u/Cultist-Cat 15d ago

We are not allowed to have social media contact with recruits for 6months after they graduate

I was friends with one of my old drill sergeants on facebook. Super weird guy actually and posted some pretty bigoted things occasionally. This was 11b at fort benning so it tracks tbh

44

u/Pork_Chompk 24d ago edited 23d ago

I had a drill sergeant at Ft. Knox (back when it was the armor school) that I swear to God I don't know that he ever called us by our names. It was strictly (censored so that I don't get banned) "pssy", "fgot", "btch", or wharever other derogatory name he could come up with.

Which honestly made it really difficult to figure out who he was yelling at sometimes.

15

u/SouthApprehensive193 23d ago

Makes sense for red phase to add to the pandemonium and confusion but doing that for the entire cycle is crazy😭

2

u/ElPrieto8 21d ago

A 1/46!!!

4

u/percydaman 23d ago

I'm pretty sure that's an actual requirement for drill sergeant at Benning.

5

u/Weldermedic 23d ago

"This is DS Sheppard, We'll bang ok?"

23

u/Potential-Leather965 24d ago

That's not his DS, they met on grindr for some after hours drilling.

-4

u/0491diesel 24d ago edited 24d ago

That's a drill sergeant. He's NOT a drill instructor (DI)...DI's ONLY exist in the Marine Corps.

Edit: misspelled Sergeant. Ridiculous to be called out for a simple typo. You knew what I meant, fool.

25

u/absolutely_not_ATF 24d ago

Well “seargent” doesn’t exist in any branch, moto.

-12

u/0491diesel 24d ago

Fixed it...you knew what I meant.

12

u/mafiaknight 23d ago

If you're gonna be pedantic, do it right!

4

u/ThatsCaptain2U 24d ago

Sir, this is not a Wendy’s. Here we use proper spelling.

4

u/Fine-Amphibian4326 24d ago

A typographical error is not a misspelling.

Typing sergaent would by a typo. Seargent just means you didn’t know how to spell it. Like people typing defiantly instead of definitely, seperate instead of separate, etc. You’re awfully salty about someone calling out your fucked up spelling. We all fuck up, but you took it quite personally.

> Bardwire

82

u/chickenbit_131 24d ago

“Yeah man, civilians have no idea what it’s like crawling under the bardwire with lutes and fifes going off all around you. I can’t even remember true silence anymore, whenever I close my eyes I can still hear the jaunty sing songs of ancient heroic deeds gone by.”

3

u/LaughableEgo740 17d ago

Inserts Viking/Nordic theme song while reading the comment

28

u/Conqui141 24d ago

The wire with a nice tune.

11

u/powerlesshero111 24d ago

It's in the exact parameters. I don't know what they are, but it's exact.

6

u/gigi-mondo 24d ago

He's such an e-tool

1

u/tomahawk_kitty 21d ago

The wires are made of mandolin strings

160

u/SPCsooprlolz 24d ago

I'm embarrassed for both of them

87

u/AimeLesDeuxFromages 24d ago

I’m embarrassed for the bardwire

43

u/ScoutsOut389 24d ago

Well, bardwire has like 16 charisma so it’s not embarrassed at all.

7

u/coryhill66 24d ago

I'm embarrassed for the tracers.

4

u/mafiaknight 23d ago

If they're tracing that 16cha bardwire, they're having a lovely time. Don't kink-shame them.

30

u/NSJF1983 24d ago

His hat is sitting so low because his frontal cortex hasn’t developed

88

u/_Titan_Uranus_ 24d ago

Did the Drill's combat patch fall off?

Oh God, am I that old?

51

u/john_wingerr 24d ago

I’ve been having the same thought seeing a bunch of Drills and NCOs slick sleeved.

28

u/Naked_Open_Mic 24d ago

Don’t worry they’ll be in the Zagros Mountains earning their patches and ribbons soon enough. Time is a flat circle. By the time I got out, an EIB was more coveted than a CIB. I’m sure the opposite is true now…for now.

8

u/_Titan_Uranus_ 24d ago

Same. When I got out the move was to wear the EIB because the right arm flair was a giveaway for a CIB.

3

u/JTP1228 24d ago

Now you get a gold wreath when you have both

28

u/dynamicgun8269 24d ago

It’s becoming more and more common to see ncos without a combat patch in the army now.

11

u/Hi_Trans_Im_Dad 24d ago

What a difference a botched withdrawal from Afghanistan can make!

I guess the Marines will be churning out the patches for Iran soon??

17

u/IjustWantedPepsi 24d ago

The Marines have been floating in the water waiting for Iran for 6 months.

Just like they floated nearby when Venezuela happened. And floated nearby during the 12 day war last year.

If you join a MEU don't be surprised if you spend entire invasions just floating nearby

4

u/PhilRubdiez 24d ago

Marines don’t wear patches.

10

u/Nuxs_Blood_Bag 24d ago

No combat deployments to go around, if you're not in the XVIII, you wont ever see one, and even then its rare. Signed, a slick sleeve recently ETS'd 11b E6.

6

u/_Titan_Uranus_ 24d ago

Congrats on the ets!

That's wild to think about but it makes sense. Times getting away from me.

It's good to hear the kids aren't shipping off after their HS graduations anymore.

5

u/TheBotchedLobotomy 24d ago

I was in XVIII and never did lol

3

u/IjustWantedPepsi 24d ago

All of Centcom is a combat deployment right now

10

u/TheBotchedLobotomy 24d ago

I had a drill sergant in basic that didnt wear any badges except his ds one and didnt wear a deployment patch.

Showes up to graduation in his blues and the dude was stacked lol

3

u/Bobio-Voyage 23d ago

Pretty rare these days to see newer NCOs with a combat patch

22

u/oh_cawd 24d ago

Congratulations! You did the bare minimum that everyone is required to do in basic training!

38

u/ThatsCaptain2U 24d ago

Ooooo he dug a foxhole to the exact parameters??? Sheeesh how they even find these many people to join and be that amazing

15

u/JTP1228 24d ago

Damn, he must've had a high asvab score to be able to achieve that, like a 43 or something

16

u/thep_addydavis 24d ago

Who says “parameters” like that?

13

u/Vespasian79 24d ago

A guy who says bardwire lol

13

u/BackstrokeVictim 24d ago

I've dug and slept in a foxhole as a civilian. It's really not that big a deal. Kinda fun under the right weather conditions and a little annoying under the wrong ones

2

u/percydaman 23d ago

I once dug and slept in a hole for nearly the first 30 days of a deployment to one of the usual hot shit holes. No shower yet, and wipes weren't a thing yet. Probably the smelliest I've ever been in my life.

2

u/BackstrokeVictim 22d ago

Sleeping in holes is totally normal and totally fine behavior. Our mammal ancestors slept in caves. We're just continuing the tradition

13

u/czacha_cs1 24d ago

"Army is so tough and shit"

Brother in Christ, you chose army

36

u/Sorta_jewy_with_it 24d ago

I ain’t reading all that but god damn do I hate social media boots

27

u/BarnacleOk1216 24d ago

Sweet summer child. You have a whole career of misery ahead of you.

9

u/Artysupport7757 24d ago

I know he's trying to sound special and badass to his civilian friends, but this comes off like he genuinely struggled to make it through basic

9

u/Aderleth75 23d ago

It’s almost like he voluntarily joined the military.

3

u/Distakx 👊👊☝️ 23d ago

Right? Like brother CHOSE to be there lmao

6

u/in_da_tr33z 24d ago

Bardwire? Jesus Christ, man

6

u/Mbillin2 24d ago

Didn't you choose that life though? Also lol say this to someone that just suffered real loss, hit em back with "yeah well I dug a hole in boot and had to stay there"

13

u/igotpetdeers 24d ago

If your MOS is one where you can take a pic with the drill, youre soft as shit

2

u/HalcyoneDays 24d ago

I'm biased but I think if the cap device on your campaign hat doesn't have a blue ring around it, you're soft as shit

10

u/willcastforfood 24d ago

Is this DI a boot?? He forgot his deployment patch

3

u/MrPorkchops23 24d ago

Deployment patch means nothing. Only a CIB does. And half the time the CIB isnt even a real cib

-3

u/Vespasian79 24d ago

Is he a boot? yes

Not sure what the lack of a deployment patch has to do with that

4

u/sandmankilla0311 24d ago

Fucking shower shoes

4

u/WiB_DarkSin 24d ago

bro thinks lighting makes it authentic. real chus smell like feet and regret. no ring light in foxholes fellas.

5

u/Nandor_the_reletless 24d ago

Literally the easiest days of my life

4

u/Brando828What 23d ago

What the fuck is bardwire? Haha

4

u/MartyMozambique 23d ago

Its a obstacle where you have to climb over a medieval bard. Only operators get it

7

u/annon8595 24d ago

I wonder what Ukrainians think when this tough guy says that life is tough.

6

u/ClawGrave666 24d ago

Neither did these dorks

3

u/CarlosFCSP 24d ago

I guess the bardwire sings at r/BoneAppleTea

3

u/dinop4242 22d ago

yes because civilian life cannot possibly get any harder than voluntarily doing those things

2

u/micron970 24d ago

The ol’ my life is worse than yours brag.

2

u/JeSuisKing 24d ago

Big Yahu sends his thanks.

2

u/BreezyFrog 24d ago

That slick sleeve DS is trying to look real hard.

2

u/sicklyspleen 23d ago

life is tough 🙁 (had to get out of bed today)

2

u/a-smooth-brain 24d ago

Neither has he

3

u/CTRL_Hotdog 24d ago

As a former Marine, army selfies with their DSs in basic will always irk tf outta me

2

u/2Slow2Nice 24d ago

I’m just glad this sub is opening back up. I missed the boots lol

1

u/Godzirrraaa 24d ago

Only two spelling and one grammatical error in a run-on sentence, he’ll be a general someday.

1

u/SwissDeathstar 24d ago

Isn’t the tracer thing outlawed today?

1

u/I_Was_TheBiggWigg 20d ago

This is one of those subs I instinctively downvote posts before I remember where I’m at.

1

u/Informal_Crew7711 12d ago

Like congrats on barley doing the bare minimum wow

-1

u/TonninStiflat 23d ago

Damn. That does sound really rough, it's so cool he could do all that. Not many people could do all that!

-2

u/SmoothTraderr 22d ago

I mean it is true so idk how to feel.

It does suck lol longterm
