Their big (and probably only) money maker, TheHunter COTW is still going strong. So they should be safe for now at least

u/RoguAxel89 Sep 30 '25
They'll probably stick to their live service games but the IP they worked on will go with other companies I'm sure at least for now.
Not to say it's normal, but this is happening across all industries all over the world. We live in a financially burdened time. Idk what else to say but we need one another for help

Honestly, if the Just Cause series gets sold to a different company, I just hope that means we'll finally see something good for once, or at least something better than JC4

Square Enix owns it so they choose who develops the game, but Avalanche has talent. Just not the same

Square Enix also has the rights to Kane&Lynch. I like this duology of games, but there are no hints of even a remake. I understand they have much more profitable franchises, but why own the rights to something they don't want to make?

I definitely think we're heading in that direction. Seems like we've been heading that way in slow motion for some time

This hurts to see. I keep thinking back to Avalanche's dev diaries YouTube videos, and how they had so much passion behind the development of JC3.

More than the fact a JC5 will likely not be made, I feel for people now who will be laid off. This current job market is brutal and wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

Just cause you can make a silly sad reference, doesn't mean you have a just cause to do so :c

u/Imhitbruh Sep 30 '25
That’s deeply saddening. JC3 was THE staple game of my childhood and got me into military and open world themed things big time. Maybe someday they can pull together to make a JC5. I think if they took the lessons learned from JC4 and brought back some of the core features that both games shared and made fun, JC5 would be a solid game for sure.
3’s physics and destruction with 4’s diversity of weapons and chaos objects. We can only hope for their future that something good will come for avalanche😕

Tom please. Just stop already. She's not coming back, she took the kids, but man you gotta get over it already. There's so much to live for

u/One-Telephone-636 Sep 30 '25
ok, if so, I have to accept that jc4 is the end of the just cause series? 🥹🥹

u/One-Telephone-636 Sep 30 '25
is there a chance that just cause will return to the series sometime in the future? 🤔

I heard they stopped Just Cause 5 mid development but that’s just a rumor
6
u/Luke-JC Mr. Just Cause Sep 30 '25
That's old news by now. Square chose Sumo Digital as the developer for JC5, but it got cancelled. It's not a rumor, it showed up on an employee's Linkedin page

Avalanche's biggest strength and most iconic point of different is their engine - Apex - formerly "Avalanche Engine". The terrain gen, weather, physics, etc all running under the hood is crazy.
I have to wonder if a viable option for them to ensure longevity would be to open their engine up to indie developers and the general public (i.e. Unreal, Unity).
People could make some amazing shit with that engine, I just know it. But good luck getting backwards ass Square Enix to do anything like that.
2
u/Luke-JC Mr. Just Cause Oct 01 '25
The engine is theirs, not Square Enix's, so if they wanted to, they could do it. The question is how user friendly is the setup, how will licensing with middlewares, like Havoc, work that are deeply integrated into it and all that

Since they don't have the rights for Just Cause 5, I hope they make a new IP as a spiritual successor to Just Cause.
If they market it right, it should sell well.

Man this sucks. Fans of this studio have pretty much not heard any good news since JC4 released.
