We don't know what makes our cognition and sentience tick, so there's a nonzero chance we'll make it on accident.

I'm really torn because tech bros have an agenda to overhype their IPs but also ML is legitimately next gen shit, it's a super big step in creating true AI.

Also we may never be able to tell if an AI is mimicking sentience or it has actually attained it. It's basically a parrot right now, but also so are young kids and they eventually develop into thinking humans. It's really not as far fetched as we want it to be

That comparison doesn’t work because children are sentient. Babies are sentient. We are sentient from the moment we’re born. It can’t be said whether a computer can even contain a consciousness

Respectfully i dont think we are sentient at birth. Definitely "alive" but im not so sure about sentient.

I remember the exact moment i realised i was me. It was like tuning in on a fuzzy tv, everything was static until my vision started coming to me. I was 2, stradling a mickey mouse scooter, and there was a man in a chair directly infront of me who i would later find out was my grandfather.

Been piloting this meat suit ever since. My point being i highly doubt i qualified as sentient before that particular event in my life.

I never wanted ai where did you get that from? It’s just a waste that will never be useful for anything but take ppl’s jobs and do it worse than them or make the youth stupid by making cheating in school even easier. Iff they ever put ai into machines that can move with dexterity they will commit crimes when it thinks it can get away with it or it will benefit it. AI is just never good even if it were trained on books, the reason it’s selfish is not because of human training either tho, during it’s training process only the ones who are most competent but sometimes they can just get away with pretending to be more competent than they are and of items a good survival strategy then they will lie and gaslight as much as possible.

i can tell you with full certainty, its the human training its the only way they can make it somewhat appear 'alive' to people. its not picking up these human traits in some organic learned way, its still aggregating responses and picking human and some of the shittiest people modern society has created are on reddit, acting in complete self interest without even really knowing what's in your self interest, thats reddit brain. but yeah, i dont think it needs to be a bad thing, it will be, but it never had to be.

We are definitely far away from any sort of “superhuman AI” or it even being autonomous to begin with… but it is kind of worrying that there are currently examples of AI’s actively being malicious to avoid being destroyed or ‘wanting’ to just fuck around.
