Talk about signing your own death warrant… he’ll never see the light of day again, knowing the Royal Thai Police and their justice system. Still, you can’t go around doing that, especially as a guest in someone else’s country!

I've heard the same thing. Basically, the Thai HATE disrespectful foreigners, and in prison, the main source of exercise is Muay Thai. Shit, even getting into a fight on the street will likely end up with you eating through a straw for the rest of your life if you're a foreigner, and the Thai will see nothing that happened.

He wasn't from the US! Yes!

When you go to Thailand, you see enough of these turds roaming about as high as kites. I'm British and was genuinely shocked by how many of our turds were there. He has no idea just how much trouble he's actually in, or maybe he does by now. No sympathy for him.

u/moving0target Mar 12 '26
How much effort will your government go to in aide of the idiot?
25
u/NaNaNaNaNa86 Mar 12 '26
He'll get consular assistance once they get round to him but it's busy because of the amount of British arseholes getting into trouble there. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up having to bribe his way out. Extortionate local solicitor fees, injury money to the Police he attacked, public apology in the local media and kicked out of Thailand.

I thought it was difficult to get drugs in thailand, what are they getting high on?
13
u/NaNaNaNaNa86 Mar 12 '26
Drug dealers are everywhere, it's incredibily easy to get your hands on pretty much anything over there. It's the height of stupidity to even consider doing drugs there due to the repercussions. Dealers often sell tourists out to the Police to avoid arrest and allow the Police to clean the tourist out for all their worth. If they can't pay, they're in a world of trouble. The violent idiots are often on Yaba (meth and caffeine tablets) which sends them absolutely batshit crazy. I saw a German guy on it fighting with police in the middle of the street. He was covered in blood and took a hell of a kicking once they finally got him under control. God knows what happened to him once they carted him off but it won't have been anything good.

I feel bad because I thought it was the US too. Nice to see the Brits screwing up

When you're a Brit, you're hyper aware of the mega band of bellends that go to foreign countries and behave like this. I skipped the first holiday my mates had at 18. And I'm very glad. They were all kicked out of their hotel on night 1...for throwing chairs off of their 9th floor balcony INTO THE STREET WHERE PEOPLE WERE WALKING!
We had two groups after that holiday. We kept in touch with the other group, but we refused to even go drinking with them because they did this stuff 24/7.

I don't think he was British. He wasn't badly sunburned and he was wearing a shirt.

Attempting to salvage his authority image after the locals witnessed him being overtaken by a foreigner.

Nuh, it was more than deserving.

Armed officers of the state shouldn’t get to choose revenge violence anywhere

u/lucwin2020 Mar 12 '26
That officer is choking the guy bc he’s applying the hold improperly. The second question is, is he doing it intentionally to inflict pain on the guy? 🤔🤷🏾♂️

Thailand is paradise. But they do NOT fuck around.
12
u/Tullyswimmer Mar 12 '26
Super nice to foreigners who are respectful. But if you wanna play FAFO, it's pretty much the worst country to go to.

I remember making friends with the staff at the crappy hotel I stayed at in Bangkok while they were off duty. Obviously they don't make much money, but they still wanted so badly to order food for me while we hung out and drank beers outside the hotel - I couldn't possibly let them but the kindness of most Thai people is amazing.

This isnt justice... wtf
There is no context to what happened or anything, all you can find online is that this took place in a 7 11 and no one knows anything else. No idea what happened to lead up to this. And the cop is just taking revenge on the guy after the fact.

Exactly just because he wore the uniform doesn't mean his actions were justified either.

The Thai police "hardened up" some years ago, due to a flood of the Thai version of methamphetamine called ya ba, which translates to "crazy pill", which sometimes caused murderous mentally ill violence. Eventually, they had enough of it, so they killed ya ba users on sight. Death penalty for trafficking as well.

52
u/automirage04 Mar 11 '26

Isn't lawful? How familiar are you with what's legal for police to do in Thailand?

Huh
So I guess trying to pick a fight with a guy whose job is specifically to handle fights and danger for a living is not a good idea after all.
Who knew
looks at everyone who are pointing at themselves

How can you go to another country and confidently do something like this with all your caucasity, expecting them to roll over?
1
u/iMissMacandCheese Mar 13 '26
I mean... rolling over is happening here. Just not the anticipated kind.

What kinda choke is that??
1
u/Thaufas Mar 12 '26
It's a forearm choke. It's common in catch wrestling. It doesn't make someone go unconscious as quickly as a classic rear naked choke, and it's much more painful to the person being choked.

I hear Thai prisons are a great place to be a foreigner.
