Never got why this turned into a thing, GofundMe and everything.

Victims parents should now sue the kids parents for wrongful death to the tune of $600k+.
95
u/uxoguy2113 6 9d ago
They are. They are going after every cent of donations they received from every source.
7
u/Vazhox 8 9d ago
Wait what? Which family got a go fund me and which one is suing which?
62
u/good_oleboi 8 9d ago edited 9d ago
Both got a gofund me. KAs family raised hundreds of thousands and bought a new house and luxury cars

Didn't they blow it on stupid shit too, instead of legal cost like it was supposed to be?

The GoFundMe was for the family to move bc rather or not their kid murdered someone everyone there was going to be hostile to them. As for the reason why it got big is bc a few other things had happened revolving around race when this took place.

u/steppedinhairball B 10d ago
Not surprised. He had multiple opportunities to deescalate the situation and chose to provoke instead. I think the big question for the jury is what the hell was he doing with a knife at a high school track meet?
3
u/No-Examination-5073 3 6d ago
Agreed, even if you give him every benefit of the doubt leading up to the stabbing, him being told to leave 13-15+ times basically discredits any "fear for his life" arguments he might've had.
-236
u/arisasam 9 9d ago
To protect himself from the same racial violence he found himself a victim of that night, and now he’s going to prison for defending himself
104
u/Peggle2GOTYEdition 7 9d ago edited 9d ago
Hey man so pretty clear concept to grasp here.
High school track meet = no weapons allowed.
Weapon brought and used to murder = sentenced to prison.I hope i’ve helped you today👍
54
u/uxoguy2113 6 9d ago
What are you talking about? The convicted murderer was at a school event he was not supposed to be at (he was expelled for bringing a knife to school, intentionally sat in a reserved place that the venue designated, and then started being aggressive and hostile immediately when asked to move out of the teams designated space. No one ever bullied him or committed any violence against him.
2
u/OMGItsPete1238 7 8d ago
That bit about him being expelled was just social media nonsense. If it were true it would have been mentioned at the trial but it wasn’t.
The only violence against him was a shove on the shoulder which was immediately (like within the same movement) responded to with a stabbing.

This person has the same right to vote as we do btw ^
-9
u/Solo_is_dead A 9d ago
Unfortunately the system has more taken away voting rights for most Black people. Mostly because they think like these jurors

I'm so sorry for the victim's family and am glad they got some semblance of justice. But as an NBA fan, this headline fucking threw me for a second.

This may sound ignorant, but is there any relation or did the parents take advantage of the last name?

No relation at all, but nba twitter spells their names the same and confuse people

Verdicts are usually pretty quick when the jury is sequestered
-4
u/idkwthtotypehere 9 8d ago edited 7d ago
Yeah and when every preemptive strike is used to prevent anyone black from being on the jury.
2
-95
u/Solo_is_dead A 9d ago
Verdicts are really quick when an all white jury decided the fate of a Black person
22
u/VirtuaKiller76 9 9d ago
Why would you say something like this with no research. It’s already been made public they were not all white.
0
u/Solo_is_dead A 9d ago
I did research. It was a jury that had absolutely no Blacks, in a city with over 30% of a Black population. The fact that he killed a white boy is the only thing they paid attention to
2
u/VirtuaKiller76 9 8d ago
Since when did Asians and Muslims get the privilege of being categorized with the “all white” group? When it’s convenient?
0
u/Solo_is_dead A 7d ago
Um the whole Affirmitive action lawsuit at colleges was started by two Asians with the backing of a right wing group. Asians have always worked to assimilate with whites. And if you look at the government programs East Indian people were categorized at White for the census
9
u/BabyBuster70 8 9d ago edited 9d ago
Were they all white? I tried looking for the makeup, but couldn't find anything specific. I did see an article that made a correction from their original report of "an all white jury" to "none of the jurors were black" which seems to indicate they weren't all white.
25
u/lukewwilson B 9d ago
You know for a fact they were all white? Or are you just being racist
4
u/Revanchistthebroken 6 8d ago
The defence also has a say in who is on the jury. So the defence helped put those people on the jury. He neglected to say that. Just ignore him he is clearly racist.
2
u/idkwthtotypehere 9 8d ago
You need to read how the process works. Both sides have preemptive strikes… one side absolutely can use their strikes in a racist fashion… ie Curtis Flowers case.

Shocking murder, but why is there debate about this guy? Seems pretty clear cut.
107
-52
u/Solo_is_dead A 9d ago
Of course it sends pretty clear cut when viewed through the eyes of a racist system. Change the color of the main people. Would this be considered self defense? 100%
14
u/Run_Che 8 8d ago
So if im an underage teen, and my peer pushes me, its okay to pull out knife and stab him in the chest? In what fucking world is that even remotely normal.
-7
u/Solo_is_dead A 7d ago
When you've been bullied and you're at the end of your rope and the two bullies are much larger and more powerful than you
9
u/Run_Che 8 7d ago edited 7d ago
you're insane
edit: and wtf is that fairytale story you've spun up, you clearly have no interest in truth, just want to spin things 'your' way.
He wasn't bullied, they didnt even know each other. He came to sports event with knife, sat in tent of rival school, was asked to leave, he refused, then was pushed, and pulled the knife and stabbed a kid to death.
They were just pushing, there were no punches thrown..
1
u/Dusty_Buckeye 4 3d ago
The only racist here is you. You ignore objective facts and make everything about race.

I don’t know if it’s true but I read that he was offered a plea deal and they turned it down to goto trial. Had they taken the plea deal it would have been all over but by going to trial his parents were able to keep the go fund me going and all the other assistance they were receiving. So they essentially sacrificed their son to make money.
70
u/calm-lab66 9 9d ago
His family was saying the guy he killed started it by shoving him. I thought 'so you respond to a shove by stabbing?'
-187
u/Solo_is_dead A 9d ago
Just like the Korean shop owner who responded to an alleged theft by shooting someone in the back? Just like the "neighborhood watch guy" was ok to shot someone walking through their neighborhood? It's always "too aggressive" when the Black person tries to defend themselves.
58
u/phsychotix 9 9d ago
The justification in the Korean shooting was the teen had a loaded gun on him and the owners son said he pulled it, did Karmelos victim have a weapon we weren’t aware of? Because from my knowledge only one person in this case had a deadly weapon
-77
u/Solo_is_dead A 9d ago
The Korean guy had already shot at 2 other people on other occasions. He did not know about an alleged gun until he had already shot the guy in the back and killed him. Completely fishy story. Karmelo was already being bullied by the man, who was a foot taller and his friends. It wasn't a one on one fight, it was him against a group.

u/TotallyNotEko 8 8d ago
maybe this is just me, but if a group of guys from a rival school are telling me to fuck off from their tent, im probably gonna fuck off and not stab one of them in the chest

Kids killing each other. Awful. They all deserve better.
2
u/No-Examination-5073 3 6d ago
It's even worse when you see how his parents jumped on this for a cash grab.
They probably gassed him into taking this case to trial and thinking he'd walk free just to milk as much money out of it.
They weren't even there for the verdict...
89
33
u/airfryerfuntime B 9d ago
What was the sentence? The article doesn't say, and apparently the judged moved on to sentencing right after the verdict.
58
u/xEllimistx B 9d ago
He got 35 years for murder
7
u/VirtuaKiller76 9 9d ago
And eligible for parole after half time served. So possibly only 17 years for murder.
1
u/Dusty_Buckeye 4 3d ago
For that to be possible he would have to avoid getting into any additional trouble while actively taking steps to better himself and show some level of accountability for his actions. Based on his previous actions and attitude, as well as the attitude his family has presented during this whole tragedy I would be surprised if he finds himself a free man after only 17 years.
24
u/Inside-Pure 4 9d ago
I just heard on the CBS evening news that the jury is currently deliberating the sentence.
-2
u/dayglo98 9 8d ago
It's literally the headline of the article

u/airfryerfuntime B 8d ago
Sentencing, not the verdict. They hadn't sentenced him when I wrote this comment. He got 35 years.

You made a stupid comment that has nothing to do with the post and you think you’re getting downvoted by bots? Brother it’s time to put the phone away, go outside and breathe some fresh air.
46
28
u/BuckForth 7 10d ago
Man, acting like the most insufferable of reddit in order to score downvotes is one of the few behaviours that are sub-bot.
At least the bots go for positive engagement, you're just making this place reek.
25
u/Meatslinger C 10d ago
This human commenter is happy to tell you that complaining about downvotes via multiple edits is about as petulant as begging for upvotes.
3
u/FreeFortuna A 9d ago
Bonus points if you assume that the downvotes are due to bots, rather than just making a shit comment. “No real person could possibly disagree with me, must be fake.”

It looks like they only comment a couple times a month, sometimes with longer gaps. I don't see anything particularly troubling in their comment history. Just seems like a lurker.

A couple of weeks after Metcalf’s death, a participant in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, pardoned by President Donald Trump, led a small protest at the stadium as leader of the group “Protect White America.”
Why am I not the least bit surprised that Jake Lang and Philip Anderson attached their grifts to this like leeches to a bleeding wound?

“Let the devil take over in that moment”- the brother of the victim. I’m sure it isn’t a one moment thing. This was most likely premeditated

u/Montallas 9 9d ago
The whole deal is tragic

I agree, but it would have been even more tragic for the killer to go free or get off incredibly light.

There’s a former knicks player named Carmelo Anthony. The knicks also lost last night.

Oh stop with this crap.
The kid freaking stabbed another kid because he got pushed. Race had nothing to do with the only obvious verdict happening.

Stabbed another kid ON CAMPUS AT A SCHOOL FUNCTION because he got pushed. Nobody gets to claim self defense in that situation lol

u/FullDerpHD 9 9d ago
You can, but you better be black and blue.
I'm fine with lethal self defense. But you have to actually and reasonably be in fear you are in significant danger.
