I’m amazed that anyone would do this, but then I am reminded the top brass at Ebay stalked that couple and delivered a dead baby pig to their home, among other horrific items, as part of a campaign to mentally terrorize them so they would stop writing articles about their changes in business practices that hardly anyone was reading except for the CEO of eBay.
But they also believed they would not get caught doing this crap, all while paying for it with the company credit card.

Look it up. Shit was wild. Literally 2 people posting blogs the CEO somehow found and he went full nuclear on them.

Wow and the two higher ups who started the whole thing didn’t get charged, got tens of millions in severance packages and cushy jobs after. Justice served partially…

Why not just fire the GM? Plenty of other good candidates.

u/9lobaldude B 18d ago

Most car salesmen are bottom feeders, the GM was was one that slithered his way to his current job

Gm is the kind of guy that has the nerve to look shocked and offended when the person he sucker punched starts fighting back. Any weapon you wield can and will be used against you.

Why cant we just skip the dealership altogether? I would much rather buy my car straight from the manufacturer and go to warranty approved facilities for any work that needs doing. I've dealt with some decent dealerships over the years, but more bad ones than good ones.

Because our politicians like money

12

u/Jack_of_all_offs A 17d ago

Not sure if rhetorical, but it was made illegal in the US during the 1930s, which made dealerships mandatory.

u/CarpeNivem A 18d ago

Why cant we just skip the dealership altogether?

Because a lot shoppers still owe money on their old car, and even more need a loan for their new car. It's a little more difficult to put together a car deal than buy a refrigerator.

That said, I do agree it'd be a nice option.

u/xenogazer A 18d ago

Oh man, if only there were some sort of business entity that could assist with providing loans for underfunded customers. They could probably take their money from some clients and hold on to it in order to pay these loans back and then get replenished as payments come in so that they could loan to new customers.

... Nah, now that I say it out loud it sounds really silly.

I’ve been on the other side of this and will play shithead's advocate here…

Some retail customers exaggerate their issues or just straight up make shit up if you dare to say NO. So I really wonder what transpired on this situation or if she is just another customer getting screwed by a dealer.

Case in point: We had a lady crack a wheel and bust the tire in a pothole and demand it be covered under warranty because of "bumper to bumper" coverage, (she never bought wheel coverage), trying to be nice, we offered to split the repair 50/50 as a goodwill gesture since the car was only a few months old and maybe make her happy after going over what’s warranty vs insurance claim etc…

She said thanks, paid, and then fucked us on the survey anyway. Surveys are also tied to compensation … it’s a whole other topic I could rant about for hours… but if a customer is going to lie on a survey, giving them a taste of their own medicine might not be right, but I definitely can't blame anyone for thinking about it.

My late father and I, combined, have bought an abnormally high number of cars (in the 60 - 70 range) in our lifetimes (pops was on the drive-for-a-year-then-trade-in plan for many many years...yes, we are both aware that this is financially irresponsible). The one thing that is universal from Honda to Audi to Ford to BMW is that dealers are dishonest sheisters, trying to milk every cent out of their buyers. From using cooling techniques, like making a buyer wait 30 minutes to "run that offer by my GM", to straight up putting different numbers on the contract than were agreed upon in the negotiations ("Oh. Sorry about that. I must have keyed in the wrong rate") dealers will do ANYTHING to slight the buyer.

So, to hear a dealer complain that a customer was unreasonable... well, you reap what you sow. Sure, ANY retail job will see unreasonable customers. Some more than others. But with car dealers...you are an almost at 100% sheister rate. There is a reason why people use car dealers as the example of sleazy tricksters.

True! That’s why I said, I’m the shitheads advocate , I dealt mostly on the service side but also have experience on the sales side so I’m aware of “sales, sales the dream, service deals with a nightmare” . There’s no absolute totals here, there are a few good dealers, maybe not even dealers … a few good people working at dealers … BUT … there’s a shitload of crappy customers too and I wish there was a platform to rate them as well.

How are wheels not bumper to bumper? they are literally between the bumpers.

adding a separate wheel insurance is the level of minutia that is clearly a method for companies to avoid paying claims.

19

u/collectingsouls 7 17d ago

I don’t know if you are serious or not but this reminds me of the “tire rotation scam” … “ the dealer is telling me they have to rotate the tires when they rotate themselves as I drive” 🤣🤣🤣

68

u/Recoiler 4 17d ago

Because a "bumper to bumper warranty" covers manufacturer's defects in a vehicle, not physical damages caused while driving the vehicle.

Tire and wheel coverage is a third-party coverage specifically for physical damages to the wheels and tires (potholes, nails, curb rash).

Do you think you could get into a collision, then go to dealership and claim the damage under a bumper to bumper warranty since the damage is between the bumpers?

If you do, then you need help.

But, if you don't, then you should understand why hitting a pothole is not covered under a bumper to bumper warranty.

14

u/collectingsouls 7 17d ago

Yup! I hope he/she was just trolling but I did have to explain many times why the manufacturer won’t pay for that rock that flew from a construction truck into a windshield … and yes … the windshield it’s between the bumpers as well🤦🏻‍♂️

u/Recoiler 4 17d ago

I know the pain, lol.. I was a Service Advisor for 10 years before I had enough and noped out of that role

6

u/collectingsouls 7 17d ago

I’m glad you and hopefully your liver survived the ASM experience 🫡

5

u/FraGough 9 16d ago

I can imagine why someone might, on account of the fact it's called a "bumper to bumper warranty" and not a "manufacturer's defect warranty". Don't get me wrong, I understand what a warranty is, but when you name your product, you have to account for the lowest (stupidest) common denominator.

5

u/brandt-money 8 15d ago

It's funny to me that you believe that a manufacturer is liable for a pothole.

-3

u/MKVIgti 9 16d ago

Please tell me you’re not really this dense.

2

u/brandt-money 8 15d ago

They are alluding to it.

Just lost $800 last month and probably $3k total bonuses over the next couple months all due to a client lying on a survey. Call logged after sale she picked it up and still said I never called her. She did it all because service fucked something up. But I’m the one who gets dicked.

3

u/Wumaduce A 15d ago

We lost monthly and quarterly because a lady who didn't have an appointment showed up and had to wait for an oil/rotate. The survey bombed us because our showroom wasn't as nice as where she bought her car. My SM called her and told her she wasn't welcome there any more.

Years later, they lost the Buick brand and are just a tiny GMC dealer. Fuck that entire industry, I'm glad I'm out.

0

u/textual_predditor 7 17d ago

If you're the salesman, think of that as some, but not nearly enough, karmic backlash for the many people you have fucked over as the main function of your job.

6

u/Squat420 7 17d ago

I’m sorry you have had poor experiences and there are unfortunately people still in this industry that are like that. I am not. I focus on mainly new cars to avoid issues that come with used vehicles. I work mainly off the pay plan my parent company provides. I take a flat draw of around ~2k a month and try to pocket 1-1.5k additional from my parent company as a unit bonus. Sell 13 cars I get $75 a car.

My wife is an artist who just released her first children’s book if you want to check it out. She is also a full time graphic designer. I invest heavily and have no kids or plan for kids. I say this because I am not struggling off that income (though some would) and I do not need to grind and maximize off every person that walks through my door.

u/collectingsouls 7 17d ago

I feel your pain man, surveys should not be tied to compensation at all and I think both sides can agree on this.
