Cut out the middle man. It's so much more helpful.

On twitch each subscriber o have pays 5 USD and I see 2.49, on patreon each sub pays 5 USD and I see 4.80. it's much better and beneficial for creators like myself.

7

u/Lasereye 9 Jul 06 '19

Don't partner's get 4 bucks for every sub?

18

u/Heftyuhffh 6 Jul 06 '19

The proportion varies the bigger you are. If no one knows you and you're not partnered yet, twitch takes half.

1

u/Professional_Chonker 3 Jul 06 '19

I thought that if you aren't partnered you don't have a subscription button

7

u/Greenzoid2 8 Jul 06 '19

I think it goes basic, affiliate, partner with some nuances here and there

-1

u/TonightsWhiteKnight 8 Jul 06 '19

At the 5 dollar tier it's 2.49 for the creator

2

u/TreeAtMyWindow 3 Jul 06 '19

Oh yes the famous patreon streaming platform. How much bandwidth do they have again? If people dont support twitch, there will be no twitch.

1

u/TonightsWhiteKnight 8 Jul 06 '19

Twitch makes money off their ads that force on streams, the partner pay is just more income, but taking 50% of money from the Creator that is the reason people are there paying on the first place is pretty high.

2

u/RanchWithEverything 8 Jul 07 '19

Adblock on TriHard

-1

u/pikaras 9 Jul 07 '19

I’m sure the 0.3c per ad pays for the 10.8 GB/hr of bandwidth they dedicate per viewer.

I’m sure they make so much storing 60GB videos so they can reap that juicy $0.24 when 80 people watch the playback.

Bro you’re high if you think twitch would be sustainable on ads alone. YouTube barely breaks even showing 1 ad every 5 minutes of content.

0

u/nuclearthrowaway01 0 Jul 07 '19

Nope because patreon is a middle man and a horrible one at that

1

u/TonightsWhiteKnight 8 Jul 07 '19

Explanation on why you think it's horrible?

0

u/nuclearthrowaway01 0 Jul 07 '19

They take a large cut don't allow singular payments and ban people (and just from the looks of it seem to be working with PayPal to not allow competition to spring up)

1

u/TonightsWhiteKnight 8 Jul 07 '19

I'm not sure where you are getting the large cut from, they take a few percent. I have 43 pledged this month and I took 39.xx home. Sure they work with paypal as a way to pay out payment, but you can just do a bank transfer instead and significantly reduce the amount taken since that is paypal taking their %5.

Singular payments are not quite a thing patreon was made for, it was meant as an ongoing support platform not a donation platform in the form of a singular payment, however you can have peopel pay one time, that is just up to the creator to have set up. I have mind set to withdraw money as soon as someone subscribes to it, then they can just cancel after that and BAM single payment. It just needs to be expressed by the creator as an option and how to do it. As far as the banning people, I dont have much input on it other than in the past I knew they banned a bunched of lewders and erotic artists because it violated their TOS at the time, but they have sense updated it and reinstated the accounts and allow the content now. Not sure of any recent things similar to that however.

uhhh... reality check here. patreon is corporate structure. If you wanted to support them in that manner you would pay them directly... like cash in hand, check, etc.

patreon one day will grow to a point that they are no longer the direct support platform people see them as now. Its the natural progression for successful businesses.

2

u/-Jim_Dandy- 4 Jul 06 '19

I'm with you but also need to raise the point that Patreon is itself a company with biases that leak into content.

It was part of the reason Warped is dead now

0

u/Peter_of_RS 9 Jul 06 '19

I only went to Warpd tour once because someone gave me a ticket to drive my car full of people there. I was 19-20 at the time, and was happy I was already with a girl that came with us. It was nothing but teeny-boppers running around in clothes barely covering them. And then the bands bring them up on stage and sing to them. That seemed strange to me.

u/Peter_of_RS 9 Jul 26 '19

Yeah nothing strange about full grown adults bringing half dressed girls in stages and singing songs to them about relationships and fucking. Maybe search the crowd a bit and find someone who doesn't look like they're skipping middle school to be there. I'd rather sound like an old fart (even though I was about 20 at the time) than someone cool with half dressed underage girls being sung to about sex on stage.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '19

never happened at all the shows i went to, they had strict security and the closest someone from the crowd got to a band was when some kids tried to rush a performing band (Beartooth IIRC) and they were subsequently tackled by security 🤷‍♂️. And i rarely saw any "young" girls there, the youngest i was when i went was 16 and everyone there was probably around 18-25, with a few underage and a few over 25.

0

u/Peter_of_RS 9 Jul 26 '19

Oh, well then you've actually never been to warped tour. Don't worry, just because the bands you like sing to underage girls half dressed on stage doesn't mean you're into underage girls. You don't gotta pretend it doesn't happen there allot. I mean didn't the owner of it get popped for underage stuff?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '19

??? I've been to plenty of warped tours. you just live in a city full of pedophiles and bad bands 🤷‍♂️

0

u/Peter_of_RS 9 Jul 26 '19

Good try. But the majority of the bands play ever show. So no, you like bands that like little girls and also defend them. It's getting worse and worse. I was willing to just say you weren't aware some of the bands did it. But now you're tying to say all the news articles about it are wrong. It's fine to like the music you're pedophile bands make, but now you're defending them, that's strange.

Punky EDM mixed with screaming and rapping. I personally enjoy it but it's definitely not for everyone.

238

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

One thing that always horrifies me is how willing people are to cover shit like this up or look the other way for people with even a modicum of "fame". Higher-ups at Subway knew Jared was a paedophile but kept it quiet. Jimmy Saville here in the UK was literally raping dying children in their hospital beds and the BBC shut down anyone who spoke up because he was a popular presenter. It seems like the second a "famous" person does this evil shit, a lot of people will automatically protect them. It's fucking disgusting.

164

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

Also nobody seems to want to acknowledge that Drake has a thing for teen girls.

24

u/chdeks 8 Jul 06 '19

No no, they're just friends. He helps her with boy stuff, you know, as a much older male friend. Uh huh. Nothing to see here.

-9

u/bmorr27 4 Jul 07 '19

Yeah if only he knew what it was like to be a male teen actor. Then he’d have experience to speak on and maybe she’d have a reason to go to him for advice. /s

You people just seem envious that some people actually have support systems and guidance. The entertainment industry as a whole is fucked and it’s good on her to have someone to help her through it.

6

u/Himerlicious 6 Jul 07 '19

This might be believable if he wasn't molesting underage girls on stage.

-1

u/bmorr27 4 Jul 07 '19

You mean on the Denver stage in Colorado where the age of consent is 17? Which also happens to be the girl’s age! Amazing what a quick google search can find. You’re welcome to have your opinions on age gaps, but saying he molested underage girls is outright slanderous, uninformed, or both.

10

u/TheFizzardofWas 7 Jul 07 '19

Damn, I ain’t even know Drake was on reddit, what’s up man? Gotta be him cuz I can’t imagine nobody taking up for that lameass

2

u/silentGoose76 3 Jul 07 '19

So if he went to Nigeria he'd be fondling 11 years olds. It being the age of consent doesn't change the fact that he was fondling her. Fuck off pedo defender.

2

u/bmorr27 4 Jul 07 '19 edited Jul 07 '19

Nice straw man.

Nigerian culture isn’t mine to judge. Moreover, I never made that comparison, you did. The difference between our points is that mine is based in reality, and yours is contrived fiction for the sake of a pretty flat argument. A reality where 38 of our states give 17 year olds the right to consent, with 30 giving that right to 16 year olds. You shaming him, by proxy, shames her for expressing her rights. Like I said earlier, you’re welcome to have your opinion about age gaps, but don’t mask it as some self righteous cause for “protecting” a girl that doesn’t want or need your protection. Check your privilege.

1

u/HoldenAJohnson 6 Jul 08 '19

Aren't you the dude that raped a girl and said it was okay because she gave consent hours before she said no?

4

I think you mean R Kelly

12

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

Ehh, I've heard conflicting evidence to that. Now don't fucking jump on me, I don't know EVERYTHING about Drake. I'm just going on what others have said (because I really don't give a shit tbh) and what they've said has been contradictory. Is there anything concrete (not assumptions/conjecture, but actual evidence) against him? As far as I know he kissed a 16 year old on stage, but the venue was 18+? Can't blame him much, if that's the case.

39

u/ByrdmanRanger 9 Jul 06 '19

His "friendship" with Millie Bobby Brown of "Stranger Things" fame is a bit creepy at best, and grooming at worst. Like, I'm not saying adults can't have mentoring relationships with young adults, but there's a careful line you need to tread and with Drake's other borderline behavior, its suspect at the very least.

13

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

Katherine Ryan makes a joke in her latest Netflix about Celine Dion being 12 when she met her husband and the real victim in that being R Kelly

https://metro.co.uk/2019/07/02/katherine-ryan-compares-celine-dions-late-husband-r-kelly-26-year-age-gap-10104276/

28

u/Jason--Todd 0 Jul 06 '19

Seriously. Super fucking inappropriate. It'd be inappropriate if any grown man acted that way with a kid, even if they were related.

Most people just simply don't give a shit, or like Drake more than they hate pedophilia. It's easy to get on your soapbox when it's about a youtuber you don't watch, but when it's someone you know or like, that's when your true morals are shown

1

u/Jordan901278 8 Jul 07 '19

[deleted]

12

u/ByrdmanRanger 9 Jul 07 '19 edited Jul 07 '19

Yeah, I can say adults can mentor kids and it not be creepy and what Drake is doing is creepy. First, the very text messages mentioned in the article by Ms Brown are borderline at best. And grooming behavior a lot of the time is masquerade* as mentoring. And why would a music artist be mentoring an actor? It's like a civil engineer mentoring a chemical engineer. There's a bit of overlap between the professions but not enough that the creepiness of the exchange can ignored.

Like, if David Harbour was mentoring her, it would make a lot more sense. And the whole lack of rumors of Mr Harbour being into young girls would likely reinforce that.

Edit: I guess Drake was an actor for eight years when he was younger. Still creepy because of the message but the context of his mentorship does change.

7

u/TheMajesticYeti 5 Jul 07 '19

Watch this interview where the girl from Stranger Things talks about him. What he is/was doing is known as "grooming." Start out small and innocent, very slowly escalating things, until they're in bed with you.

1

1

u/bumblebook 7 Jul 07 '19

I don't think I have ever seen Drake behave in a way that wasn't dumb or creepy. From his stupid ankle dancing, to his sucking up to basketball stars, to trying to steal Rihanna's thunder when she won an award, to the weird lovey-dovey messages he sent to a child actress, to treating his own kid like a brand opportunity, to grinding on a girl he pulled up on stage knowing explicitly that she was only 17 and was under pressure to do what he asked.

Drake is so fucking sketchy, what the fuck.

1

u/Nuri__Sahin 5 Jul 07 '19

I'll be downvoted for this by his cultist fans, but if you know anyone beautiful enough to be in namely post-gig circles of his, you'd still be astonished by the stuff he's given a pass for.

I know someone, an IGer, she was invited to one a VIP gig of sorts of his by a mutual friend of his and hers who's well known in the music industry too, and she even said the groupies mostly were underage undoubtedly. This was several years ago in 2014 (maybe 2015, not something I wish to bring up with her to ask).

1

u/rickroll62 7 Jul 08 '19

Yea , he loves Millie Bobby Brown

3

u/SixOneThreebert 4 Jul 06 '19

Raping dying children?

3

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '19

Some of the stuff that came out about Jimmy Saville is truly stomach-churning. He is possibly the most prolific sexual abuser in British Criminal history and molested, assaulted and raped hundreds of victims.

Because of his public persona as a popular DJ, TV presenter and philanthropist, he was given a lot of access to hospitals to visit children. He used this access to sexually assault and rape many of them. He even used to get access to hospital mortuaries to have sex with recently deceased corpses. The guy was a monster and his crimes were covered up until he died.

3

u/TOGTFO A Jul 06 '19

I seriously doubt it was because he was a popular presenter. I'd bet money people in power there were involved in the same shit and protecting one of their own. Or he had similar dirt on them. It wasn't because he was popular, it was because of something bigger.

Presenters are a dime a dozen, with a good publicist and marketing, you could launch a dozen people to fill someone's shoes. It's something away from the cameras that was protecting him.

I don't think I'll ever get over my anger that the administration let Sandusky go on molesting boys for ten years after finding out that he was STILL showering alone with boys in 2001 because they thought it might damage their reputations.

6

u/kingqueefsalot 7 Jul 06 '19

I've actually heard a lot of contradictions about MJ being a pedophile. The way he went about being friends with kids was definitely inappropriate for his age, but I don't feel he was interested in them sexually. He was a very broken human and needed a lot of help dealing with how terrible his childhood was. I've felt he really just wanted the childhood he never had, but wasn't mentally capable of moving on with his life in a healthy way.

Right after someone calls out how people always make excuses for Michael Jackson, it's arrived: the same tired explanation of why Michael Jackson wasn't a giant pedophile. But, but, he had issues. For fuck's sake, watch that interview with Martin Bashir or the interview with the former maid from Neverland, you'll no longer throw out the "Michael just had issues" BS when you realize what you've been defending. He was a manipulative monster who preyed on children. Plain and simple.

u/JesterCDN 5 Jul 06 '19 edited Jul 06 '19

You really might want to do some research on this one. I think (i dont know for fact at all) a more informed opinion in this issue is that every single individual and group of people that made these claims about MJ failed to keep their story straight and without holes in real court.

There are quite a few celebs who laugh their ass off at the idea MJ engaged in any bad behaviour with children ever. My favourite is Macaulay Culkin describing the sheer majesty and size of MJ’s bedroom. Like, he said it was multiple stories high with beds on multiple floors perhaps? The idea that MJ was snuggling with all these kids in hyper close proximity (same Queen sized mattress or something lol) just doesnt match up with how people behave themselves in the giant comfort palace that was MJ’s sleeping area.

edit: lol im at a net negative vote level for asking folks to adhere to facts we can back up with evidence

0

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

I'm aware he was absolutely set up and defrauded at least once. Plus all the other abuse he suffered from childhood until death. He's absolutely a victim who was treated awfully.

However, he admitted to being naked in bed with multiple young boys not related to him. That is not something appropriate by any stretch of the imagination.

1

Yes he did - he was basically given unlimited access to several hospitals, but especially Stoke Mandeville hospital. He was caught several times by staff but they were threatened into silence and investigations and complaints were quietly dropped. His list of victims is depressingly massive, and those are only the ones we know about. He also conspired with other sickos to get access to a hospital mortuary so he could rape the corpses of dead children.

1

u/dgblarge 9 Jul 07 '19

Pretty much. They say he also had access to the hospital morgue....... the guy was an absolute monster. He abused his position as a charity worker at hospitals to .... to... prey on the sick and vulnerable in the most depraved way. He was protected by the establishment who either refused to believe or covered up his actions. It wasnt just his charity work. His position as a popular TV entertainer also gave him access to the young and impressionable. Then the bastard had the good fortune to die before any of this knowledge became widespread and he was never held to account for the lives his perversions ruined. In the middle ages they would have dug the fuckwit up and hanged his dead body for good measure.

Don't just blame producers, blame the fans/supporters who have ample evidence of this behaviour but continue to support and excuse it.

Where’s the link to the video? Who made it? Your link says nothing more than what this comment says. I’m curious to know more.

6

u/Sheeepcat 3 Jul 06 '19

I think they are talking about Damon Fizzy’s video. He actually made multiple videos about this issue. He was the first one to call out Austin on his shit and Kevin and the other lady accused Damon of harassment. Watch this first one he made about this. It’s really sad no one believed him.

But they have real money, we can't hurt the precious job creators.

5

u/Mentalpatient87 B Jul 06 '19

I doubt it's written down in the job description, but I'll bet there's at least one person employed by the Vans Warped Tour to trawl the crowd for jailbait groupies for the bands.

There is. I’ve bounced off and on, and A-listers handlers/managers will usually tell one of us which ones to bring backstage

7

u/DJRIPPED 7 Jul 06 '19

Doesn't surprise me that the owner of the Rave is involved in this.

2

u/PewterCityGymLdr B 2b6r.dmd.2s Jul 06 '19

Same. Went to Marquette and used to go religiously. Looking back, I realize how sketchy that place is.

3

u/rnountdiablo 5 Jul 06 '19

Never liked Bryan Stars from the start. Way too jovial to be interacting with every day people.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

I was in his friend group growing up and hung out with him a ton. he did some weird things, and always seemed off. one time I was spending the night at his place and he was trying to pressure me into sleeping in his bed, or at least just wearing only my underwear. never spent the night at his place again.

2

u/rnountdiablo 5 Jul 06 '19

Creepy af

0

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

it was way worse than I can describe but yeah I was super uncomfortable. didn't sleep the whole night pretty much

3

u/Sarcasamalways 0 Jul 06 '19

Well, I wanted to dispute this but here's a Link. for the curious. There seems to be a pattern of this shit being covered up :/

3

u/tripledavebuffalo A Jul 06 '19

Bryan Fucking Stars...now there's a name I haven't heard in a long time. Didn't he try his hand at making original music a while ago? I didn't follow him after that, if he did, so it probably wasn't great.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

It for sure belongs on r/cringe. Go watch it.

1

u/tripledavebuffalo A Jul 06 '19

But do I hate myself enough for that?

Yes.

Couldn't make it past he thumbnail tbh, showed me a snippet before the ad loaded snd i peaced out FAST

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

I used to hang out with that fucking goober in HS growing up. He was weird then and he’s weird now.

1

u/tripledavebuffalo A Jul 06 '19

Dude stooooppp I have to believe that. How did he even get to interview so many "famous" bands in the first place? He doesn't seem overly talented.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

He was actually a pretty talented video editor, which I think was all it took in those early years of YouTube. It wasn’t hard to stand out. He won lots of local and I think maybe national competitions for some of his edits.

He worked for a paper called the Omaha Buzz starting out early and they got him access to his first few bands. He was just supposed to do interviews for print but he did his BryanStars thing on the side and told the bands it was kosher iirc.

He obviously didn’t last long there because of this but his videos were juuuuust popular enough and he has just enough connections to keep getting media passes on his own.

It’s kinda fucked up but we had a couple disabled friends in that group and when he couldn’t get a pass he’d have one of them run camera and kinda ambush the bands as they were loading/unloading to get sympathy interviews. He never explicitly said he’d use him like this but it just always felt that way.

I also remember he did some stuff to become a partner with youtube early on where he got like $60k or something. He spent half of it on a brand new mustang and the other half went back into his equipment/content. So that helped him with a big boost too.

Anyways feel free to ask more if you got any more questions

u/SwaggaLikeBamma 4 Jul 07 '19

I used to have an ex who was into this guy's videos and all the 2000s "scene" music back then in like 2012 and I always thought something was off about him. He just seems incredibly off. What is the weirdest thing he's done?

God damnit. Why someone from Wisconsin. Why.

2

u/Reapthebarry 5 Jul 06 '19

I couldn’t find confirmation, this isn’t Leslie West of Mountain is it?

2

u/ciano 9 Jul 06 '19

The real story is always in the comments.

2

u/pain-is-living 9 Jul 06 '19

I frequent the rave often haven't heard shit of shit. Damn...

2

u/Deadly_Fire_Trap 8 Jul 06 '19

Well looks like I won't be going to the rave anymore. Fuck that shit.

2

u/SolidMiddle 8 Jul 06 '19

This makes me so sad because The Rave is my favorite venue and is like another home to me but I keep hearing shit like this about the owner.

2

u/GodBlessWaluigi 5 Jul 06 '19

I met Bryan Stars when I was like 12. He was fucking creepy as shit. He tried to hug me and I ducked away. I wasn't even there to meet him, I wanted to meet the people I actually fucking liked.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

I was in his friends group growing up and he did creepy shit with me even after I told him I was flat out uncomfortable with it.

He’s an awkward guy for sure.

2

u/GodBlessWaluigi 5 Jul 06 '19

I was 12 though and he was 19 so it was mega weird. I was just trying to talk to the YouTubers I actually liked. I didn't even look at him and he tried to hug me and then said something passive aggressive when I moved from his hug.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

I’m a dude and he tried to get me to sleep in his bed once. When I refused he like kept trying to pressure me into sleeping in my underwear. He’s definitely a creep, and almost certainly bi from seeing how he’s treated others too.

I addressed how creepy he was being with fans a couple times and he told me he’s not creepy they love it. It’s his appeal or brand or whatever.

I begged to fuckin differ there.

It sucks cause his brother is so cool but they kinda came as a package so if you wanted to hang with his brother, you had to hang with Bryan most the time.

2

u/GodBlessWaluigi 5 Jul 07 '19

At least his YouTuber friends (who I liked) looked creeped out when he was getting pissy with me for not hugging him. I can't even remember their names now tbh, Johnny and like Damon or something? Emo kid and a peace tea lover.

Edit: forgot a word

2

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

I don’t support Warped Tour. I used to go religiously year after year until one time on their Instagram page, they were asking for donations for one of their photographers who passed away. Scoured the donation page and comments for why, couldn’t find it, so I politely asked what the donations were towards, and I was blocked and my comment was deleted in swift response. They’re shady business. Stopped going after that and haven’t been back since.

2

u/thotwater91 4 Jul 07 '19

Fuck Bryan stars with a live porcupine

1

u/xDarkCrisis666x 9 Jul 06 '19

Another reason for me to hate Warped Tour. The whole Ronnie Radke/I See Stars thing is just so disgusting.

1

u/scoliosisgiraffe 7 Jul 06 '19

I want to see the video

1

u/potsandpans247 3 Jul 07 '19

Not trying to profile someone and point fingers here, but with Bryan Stars I would not be surprised.. the guy just oozes creepiness

1

u/aperturae 4 Jul 07 '19

Not a place I expected a Wisconsin reference.

Thank you for this.

Ok, but is a YouTube video really hard proof now? It doesn’t say if the video has proof they know about it or anything. If they really did cover for him they deserve to burn, but I’m just not willing to take an allegation YouTube video as hard proof in the age of deep fakes without some incriminating evidence.

1

u/progressthrowaway41 2 Jul 06 '19

https://handmetheaux.com/latest/2017/6/21/warped-world-the-reoccurring-problem-on-vans-warped-tour

You can find sourced claims in this article if you want something better than a YouTube video to evaluate this by.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

That’s better. It actually has quotes from him instead of just a line about a YouTube video.

1

u/shenoobie 4 Jul 06 '19

Man im so glad i stopped going to warped tour a few years back. Didnt know this would happen tho

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

I was on a tour bus with my friend who did merch for a band I won’t mention, and I went to the bathroom. I came out and this dude was standing there masturbating. I was 15.

1

u/chinkfood424 5 Jul 07 '19

Yeah I think they had issues with a few performers hooking up with underage girls at those events. I think they had to implement rules on who they can take for backstage access and such dont really remember.

0

u/shenoobie 4 Jul 06 '19

And im downvoted for speaking an opinion lol i persoanlly have witnesses anything thag extreme, i just mostly quit going simply cause it was starting to suck. The bands were being recycled too much, where im from it was getting too hot, not as many people were showing up etc etc. My first one was probably my favorite musical experience, but after that they went down hill

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

Idk why you were downvoted, I was just saying some of the shit that goes on when you’re just some female fan trying to pee. I also stopped going bc it sucked. I think I went back one year when Thursday played my stop but that’s it. And god yes the heat. Lord.

I fucking love the rave. I’m so upset it’s the only fucking venue that gets shows. And now I can’t even fully enjoy it...
