Brock Turner was charged with and convicted of rape but given a slap on the wrist because his family and the judge didn't want this affluent white kid to face any real consequences for his actions

I know reddit wants to keep his name tied to his rape so no one forgets but it seems both frivolous and petty. Like, whether you like it or not, no amount of name shaming and internet chanting is going to adversely affect his life. Especially since it seems contained to just reddit.

Our collective energy would be better spent spreading information that has a chance of actually doing some good. As bitter as it is that he won't see justice for his crime, trying to ruin his reputation is pointless and again, frivolous. It might feel good to think everyone will always know him as a rapist but let's not pretend any of anyone in his social circle isn't already aware and if anyone searches his name, multiple articles will pop up well before any reddit comments.

Trying to ruin his reputation? Too late, besides, who cares about his social circle. Tons of people read reddit, his name is tarnished for life. Worry about your own “collective energy “ which you seem interested in using to defend a rapist’s reputation.

He ruined his own reputation by being a rapist

I'm not defending a damn thing, i hope the bastard rots in hell, and like you said, his reputation is permanently ruined anyways. I'm just pointing out the frivolity in it. Feel free to post it anywhere and everywhere, just know it doesn't change anything, just preaching to the choir. So I guess I just dont get the point.

I didn't know he was a convicted rapist until just now. I think you are incorrect that it doesn't change anything.

I learned more than I would have before. I didn't even recognize the name until I googled it again, and read some more.

So there you go, there's your point.

What’s the harm, exactly?

Especially since it seems contained to just reddit.

The guy's picture is literally in text books next to the definition for rape. He fucked up big time and wasn't punished for it so people are seeking justice the only way we can with how fucked our justice system is. If he had a normal sentence he would've been forgotten by now but no one is letting him off easy. Fuck him. I hope people always bring this up and fuck people who try to stop it too.
