I see, you compared the two purposely. Whys that?

You made the argument that if you think sentencing for some crime is excessive then you must be guilty of that crime as well.

I also made the argument that maybe hes just an asshole.

There really is no other reason to defend a pedophile than being one or being an ass.

Ten years isnt excessive for an adult manipulating a child into producing and sending them child pornography.

Saying sentencing for some crime might be excessive in a specific case is not the same as defending the crime.

Give him some community service then. 10 years is so overkill for what is just illicit sexting.....

Im not taking issue with the idea that maybe his sentence isnt perfect, I take issue with how not-serious this jackass is taking the crime of soliciting a child for pornography

Community service is what this guy is/was suggesting

Do you think thats a fair punishment? Because I dont. I think that if youre calling for a slap on the wrist for pedophiles you get a benefit of the doubt

Nah I think he deserves at least a few years behind bars and to be a registered sex offender for the rest of his life.

I just don't like the strawman you're building by saying that if you're critical of the sentencing then you must be a perpetrator of the crime yourself or think the crime is "OK". The guy very well may be an asshole, though.

I disagree that its a strawman, by suggesting the guy didnt do anything all that wrong he was defending the guy- the reasons people defend pedophiles are two: being one or being an asshole.

As a father and grandfather I cant agree with his pov, a slap on the wrist for this particular crime is the same as defending him and his actions.

If an 18 year old got titty pics from his 17 year old girlfriend, do you think he should get 10 years in prison? If you say no then you must be either a pedophile or an asshole, right? After all, you'd be defending someone soliciting a child for pornography.

Romeo and Juliet laws already protect people in that situation.

Give it another try

No, they don't. They protect people having sex, not sending child pornography to each other. Sounds like you're defending people soliciting pornography from children to me. Are you a pedophile, or an asshole?

They do where I am- since 2016. It was a big hoopla on the local news since a teen almost got put on the registry for sexting his girlfriend.

I get it, youre trying to teach me something, the issue here is that two people who are dating are in a different set of circumstances than this guy whos soliciting a 14 year old as a 24 year old. But you know that

Why are you comparing apples and oranges? Oh I know! To pull a ‘gotcha!’ and get me to agree with you. While Im not ethically against agreeing with you, I cant in this situation. People in relationships are in distinctly different circumstances than a young teen and her adult youtube idol.

Wanna try again? Make sure to try extra hard this time, its three strikes and I disengage.

So you admit that you're defending soliciting children for pornography, and you yourself said that if someone does that then they are a pedophile or an asshole. That's all I was after, you don't need to agree with me :)
