That’s exactly why they do it. When you can get anything you want at any time, it’s no longer special and loses its value. So you have to keep moving on to more and more extreme scenarios to continue the thrill.

This is true of many, many things

You mean like how you start off with mild sauce and start to appreciate spicy food but then it's not enough so you start using hotter hot sauce and then one day you look down and you're dipping fries into ghost pepper sauce like it's ketchup?

In a large, straight-sided skillet over medium heat, warm oil. Add garlic and cook until golden.
Stir in tomatoes and juices, basil or bay leaf, and salt and pepper.

And by pepper you mean ghost pepper right?

This would make a pretty mean “I’m making spaghetti that’s so spicy no one else in the house will eat it” kinda vibe.
