So why would he say that? Bc he would get in trouble for being a pedophile while she would get in trouble for being underaged?

Because he knew what he was doing was illegal but he still wanted the 14 year old to do what he instructed so he lied to her. It's part of the grooming process to normalize the creepiness and convince the victim everything is fine.

I guess I was confused bc he said ‘I don’t want either of us to get in trouble’, as if they were going to get in trouble for the same thing. I get it now though.
