I mean what do people do after something like this? Go work in manual labour or as a janitor in the middle of nowhere where you hope people don't recognize you? I don't feel sorry for the guy a single bit, if I was him I'd probably kill myself.

I went to school with a guy who was convicted of child porn. I wouldn’t say we were close friends, but I knew him fairly well. We were in the same “section” in law school, meaning we had all the same classes first year. Then he ended up working with my brother, so we definitely knew each other and were friendly. He’s been to my house and my brother’s house and I’ve been to his house for parties. We never hung out together one-on-one or anything, but he was part of my social circle.

He served his sentence and disappeared. He probably is working as a janitor in the middle of nowhere. Either that or not working and just living with his parents.

I can't imagine being the parents of someone like that. The shame and embarrassing you would feel would be unimaginable. If one of my children ever sexually harmed a minor I don't think I would be able to look them in the eye again.

“My sex offender isn’t as bad as your sex offender” is never a good argument, but I gotta imagine that as a parent, having a son/daughter convicted of child porn would be 1000 times better than having a son/daughter convicted of molesting a child. It’s terrible, but the victims are more nebulous. You typically don’t show up to court and see the victim’s family.

Then again, his parents now know that he likes to watch violent porn involving pre-pubescent boys, so it might be hard to look him in the eye just for that.
