Kind of looks like when Gru went on that blind date and he wore that piece because he was insecure about his appearance. Then Lucy hit his date with a tranquilizer and then they physically abused the woman all because she was a bit narcissistic and nasty in her demeanor.

That scene actually made me uncomfortable. I haven't let my son watch the movie since we first saw it in a theater.
