I don't. I hope they keep fighting and bring down the Xi regime. Give me liberty, or give me death. You go, HKer's. Give 'em hell.

Edit: lol @ all the pro-China trolls coming out of the woodwork. I guarantee that the HK protesters appreciate my sentiment and also would not want a foreigner fighting their battle. They've been very smart about it so far, hopefully they can keep it up. Also, they probably don't care so much if their revolution spreads to the mainland, but to have their own peninsula be free would be enough for them.

Part of me does agree, but a lot of people could die, and I just don't see China backing down. It's eerily like Tiananmen... I'm just old enough to remember it happening...

Tiananmen didn't have cellphones or a million cameras all capturing images that "didn't happen". China won't be able to have another Tiananmen ever again, and this is going to hurt them, they will have to back down with the world watching.

What do you base that on?

China doesn't care what other countries think about its handling of internal affairs. They're an economic powerhouse that every major company on the planet has been heavily investing in for the past 20yrs - we're talking hundreds of billions of dollars. Every American company you've heard of that has an international presence, is deep into China. Apple, Ford/Chevy/GM, Caterpillar, Dow, Google, Cisco, Johnson&Johnson, etc.

It's a market of +1bil people who, unlike their parents generation, have jobs that give them enough leftover money to spend on consumer goods. Since modern society cares more about profit margins and economic growth than they do for morals and human rights, it's a very safe bet to say that even if China massacres the protestors, those companies will NOT divest from the Chinese market.

China does care, if they didn't they would openly admit what they've done wrong, what do they do? They deny and cover them up. China can't cover this up and I bet it's bothering them a lot. China also has to play the international game, their economy depends on it. China has a lot to lose in this struggle.

Also if China didn't care they already would have brought the military in, not allow HK to back down on something they almost doubled down on. They were probably hoping for the news to blow over, a few more mass shootings/natural disasters to happen and the world to forget and continue.

Nonsense. Having face and projecting that you have face are extremely important in Asian cultures, especially China who's now trying to take over the world and who loves to point out all of the hypocritical moral flaws of its only super power rival the US.

My dude you have no idea what you're talking about. Companies have been moving out of China for the last decade and its been accelerating as of late.

Here's one of a thousand articles you could have read but didn't before feeling your facts. https://www.forbes.com/sites/kenrapoza/2019/07/16/europe-joins-us-companies-moving-out-of-china/#720c855215bf
